Why do you need <thing with obvious functionality>?

 

For example:

Why do you need the keys?

- Because I hurt myself breaking the windows and now I want to try something new.

 

Why do you need a pen?

- Because I need to poke out my eyes after watching the new Star Wars TV show.

 

Why do you need a screwdriver?

- Because those screws don't drive themselves.

 

Why do you need your glasses?

- Because I don't want to run over any more things.

 

Why do you need a chainsaw?

- Because... wait... that's actually a good question.

Wherever there is an imbalance of power, there is an opportunity to do evil. Even when power is exactly equal, there is motivation to do evil.

There's a lot of truth to that.  When one can't fathom that someone else came to a different conclusion, yet you can't articulate the whys and hows of your arrival at your conclusion, the usual fallback is to resort to petty grade-school level bullshit, such as name calling.

At this point, that's pretty much all it is.  "Your choices are either 1. Follow the crowd or 2. Get your ability to operate destroyed due to unfounded accusations."  Honestly, when you sit people down after they've made an accusation such as that and ASK them to describe, explain, interpret the accusation that they JUST made of you, a stupidly high amount can't do it.  Worse, they will immediately intensify that attack for being called out on their bullshit.

The ONE thing that will change this is to even attempt to have an unbiased conversation about an issue that is being approached from different angles, but even within my family, I have learned that there is a very strong interest in NOT discussing.  Why?  Probably because people - of all beliefs - are afraid that if they rationally discuss it, they might discover that GASP! they were wrong this whole time!

Anyway:

A boss/business owner/etc. talking about how they work "with their employees".  Technically not incorrect (especially under conditions where you see them doing the work as well, mor often than not), yet technically also completely incorrect.
