Things that you're SICK of people SAYING.

People who write 'quote' when they are quoting someone/something. The only time you should actually ever say 'quote' is in a verbal situation where the recipient cannot see you use your hands to make the 'quote' gesture or if it would otherwise be ambiguous or difficult to tell what are your words verses the words of the person/thing you are quoting. Realistically it isn't even that important outside of the legal realm where it is VERY important to differentiate between the words one person has said verses another.

You have seen people use, in writing, the word "quote" instead of quotation marks? That's what you mean? So, I would re-write what I just wrote as "You have seen people use, in writing, the word quote quote quote instead of quotation marks?"

No it's more like they will say... "She said, and I quote, 'blah blah blah.'" It's fine to say that verbally but I have seen people actually write it out like that. It's redundant.

Well, that's a quote unquote, "relief."

Don't jinx it!   😇

Why, are you going to do it?

Another one: using  "inept" in place of "inapt." They're kinda synonymous, if you squint and pretend, but not really.

First, I acknowledge that the ideas of both "old-man-yelling-at-a-changing-world" and "language changes over time" are relevant balancing arguments against my statements of dislike for any example posted for this topic, but it's opinion and here is another set.

Bro, bruh, bruv, brotha. Brother will be accepted if you are;

1. Actually my brother.

2. Randy Savage.

Sarah Palin's great contributions to English: refudiate. And someone else, for misunderestimate.

All right, here's a new one. The guy in this video (link starts at the time signature just before he does it) says "regulated" and I am pretty sure he means "religated."

I hate when someone says "bruh", especially when they also say "bro" and "dude" every few seconds. It makes you sound like a neanderthal with brain damage. DURRRR DOOOD, BURH, LIKE BRO, BRUH DOOOD, DURRRRHURRRHURRR.

Incorporeal as "in-corp-real" not "in-corp-o-real." Although I am a bit on the fence because maybe speakers are just dropping entirely what they think is an unstressed syllable (like pronouncing interesting as "in-tres-ting" and not "in-ter-es-ting"). The standard pronunciation, though, has primary stress on the syllable they are dropping.

"Bro", "Low key"

"Momentarily" when they mean "in a moment". Momentarily means briefly.

"The airplane will be taking off momentarily." "I fucking hope not! You get that fucking plane in the sky and keep it there!"

i think the most common one i'm sick of is along the lines of "you're lying about your conditions"

i have proof of my conditions, diagnostic paperwork i'm open about sharing, and am not camera shy. You wanna see the surgical scars on my scrotum from where they removed the fused labia? i do not mind sharing

it's mostly boomers too

Meanwhile, I'm getting ghosted/rejected by every place I apply to even if it's a fast food joint. It's rough out here, man.

Personally, I hate it when people that don't even know the half of my situation tell me:

"Things will get better."

When they don't even know how impossible that is for situation I'm in. If anything, it would get worse before it got better.

Even better, when they forget to drop the quote, and just ramble on, as if you're just supposed to know when the quoted part ends.  No "end quote", or "close quote" statement incoming.  Ever.

Why thank you, Oscar! How dreadfully original of you.
