AwfulArchdemon Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 Well, I know I've saved a preset recently with Racemenu. Maybe that's it?
entro Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 To the best of my knowledge they are being created (by some?) versions of Race Menu and are needed for Race Menu to remember like when you save looks in your 'slots' and stuff like that. And, i think Race Menu creates those tri files under other circumstances too. i suppose it's possible other mods are adding such files too, of course. Well, I know I've saved a preset recently with Racemenu. Maybe that's it? Possible but that's the thing....they pop up without me going into racemenu.
Mord Sif Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Interesting about the overwrite stuff. I quite regularly see a meshes folder appear in mine after a play session, and I sometimes get an SKSE one. I know for certain that saved RaceMenu preset slots appear there in SKSE (though it only seems to be when I save something in a new slot, not when I tweak and overwrite an existing slot.) I've used that to create my own presets mod and then cleared them out of the overwrite. After my last play I didn't clear out the overwrite mod and I've just been in to check what's there. I have meshes/cache with nothing in it - no idea why that should be there - and SKSE/Plugins/SexLab containing one file called AnimationProfile_1.json. I think that one is from using hotkeys during an animation to adjust positions of the actors. SexLab is supposed to save your changes so they will automatically apply the next time that animation runs. I think.
entro Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I think I will set it up on it's on instead of merging it too see how that works. edit: A wild Sif has appeared!!! edit2: It would not let me add it like a mod so I am gonna just add it too the racemenu and hope for the best.
AwfulArchdemon Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 There might be a .xml file in RM that you can change to send that info somewhere else.
RitualClarity Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I've noticed that after i get done playing skyrim in the overwrite folder this is a mesh>cach folder and i don't know where it's coming from. The files are .tri and they only appear when i actually go in game. I never use those files and my game runs fine but I'm not sure I want too add them too a mod. To the best of my knowledge they are being created (by some?) versions of Race Menu and are needed for Race Menu to remember like when you save looks in your 'slots' and stuff like that. And, i think Race Menu creates those tri files under other circumstances too. i suppose it's possible other mods are adding such files too, of course. Well, I know I've saved a preset recently with Racemenu. Maybe that's it? I also have race menu as well and the .tri files appeared shortly afterwards. They are in a Meshs folder.
Mord Sif Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I've had those tri files appear now myself. Also: A wild Sif has appeared!!!Where? Quick, everyone! Flee. Flee for your lives!
AwfulArchdemon Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 So wait, were these files not appearing before? I don't remember seeing them before...
entro Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Well i've tried putting them in the racemenu folder and the 1st time going in the game and exiting there were no files. 2nd time they were back again in the overwrite folder
AwfulArchdemon Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 Dammit! Aaaah, fuggit. No harm, just a minor annoyance. Anyone check on that xml? There usually is one...
Mord Sif Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 So wait, were these files not appearing before? I don't remember seeing them before... I'll be honest, I never really looked at what was popping up in my overwrite mod before, and I've been using MO for months. I always created a mod out of whatever appeared, topped it up with whatever else turned up, and either checked it or didn't - it didn't seem to matter one way or the other, except that if I didn't have it checked I always got more appear in overwrite, whereas if I did have it checked I often didn't. When I saw the discussion about mystery files here today I looked on a new game I'd just started and saw I had an empty cache folder in a meshes folder in there. After playing the game for an hour or so I checked again, and now the cache folder has four tris in it.
Storms of Superior Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I find it a lot more convenient to use multiple MO installations for different Skyrim setups, rather than relying on MO's profiles. This will surely require more disk space, but you'll be able to keep track of your mods in each setup much more easily. As an example, you can organize the directories like this... C:\Skyrim\Downloads\ Common directory for your Nexus mod downloads which is to be used for all of your MO installations. You just need to point to it in your MO settings. C:\Skyrim\MO1\ Installation directory for the first MO setup C:\Skyrim\MO1\mods\ Installed mods for the first MO setup C:\Skyrim\MO1\profiles\ Profiles for the first MO setup C:\Skyrim\MO2\ Installation directory for the second MO setup C:\Skyrim\MO2\mods\ Installed mods for the second MO setup C:\Skyrim\MO2\profiles\ Profiles for the second MO setup C:\Skyrim\MO3\... Even more separate MO installations are possible, though in my case I didn't need more than two. You should also create two shortcut icons for each of these setups, one for MO's executable, and another one for, again MO's exe but this time it takes skse_loader.exe as a command line parameter (which is in your Steam Skyrim folder). FYI. Same can be done with the MO for Fallout 3/NV setups. Anyway, I now have two separate MO installations for Skyrim on my PC (and another one for Fallout NV), and I needed two different icons for them so I decided to create them myself and while I was at it, created a few more, just in case. So here's a bunch of colored (RGB and Y) Skyrim icons for multiple MO installations, you might need them if you're thinking of doing the same. ColoredIconsForSkyrim.7z Why would someone need multiple MO setups? Well, I have a Skyrim setup with an earlier version of SexLab (1.35?) and it's quite stable. I'm now level 130 (if you can believe that!) and I haven't even started Dawnguard yet, and I really don't want to break this nice setup, but OTOH, I want to try out all the new mods for the newest version of SL. So, by having two different MO setups I can easily do that. Absolutely no chance of destroying my stable Skyrim setup by mistake. If you mean can you have multiple profiles in MR and assign each a different set of mods, yes you can.
AwfulArchdemon Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 After playing the game for an hour or so I checked again, and now the cache folder has four tris in it. 4 huh? Mine has 8, for 412 kb.
RitualClarity Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 The .tri files seem to not make a difference if used or not. The mod likely just reproduces them on start and they aren't needed between starts. I have deleted those once on accident and it didn't seem to be a problem. The only files that seem to be necessary so far are the FNIS ( duh) and possibly anything from the SKSE as I am not sure how that beast works and why it is creating anything. Could just be save related.
AwfulArchdemon Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 You know what? RM might be making 'Backup' folders (perhaps to be temp for backup error protection?). and those may be ending up in MO's overwrite folder. If they can be safely erased, and the game runs fine whether they're added to 'meshes' or not, then I'd be lead to assume that RM adds a 'Backup' folder during it's changes, even if you don't choose to save your current pro-face. Arguments? Better ideas? These findings are going to Tannin (and Expired, if they prove relevant). I want as much valuable info (requests for awesome and practical add-ons and new bug reports) as possible. Thanks guys!
Mord Sif Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Don't know if it helps, but the files I've got in meshes/cache are: 1ABE2E82.tri - 12 KB 483E0931.tri - 19 KB D298159A.tri - 16 KB E688F5DA.tri - 119 KB All created at the same time.
AwfulArchdemon Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 I'll talk to Expired and Tannin about it. I saw Expired at the chat room, but no replies. Must've been "out to lunch". I'll be giving a nice report this time. Thanks for the investigation guys.
ratrace Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 This is totally not technical, but I must get this off my chest. I just must. HOLY COW, I'M IMPRESSED. I switched from Wrye Bash (which I've been using since Oblivion days) to MO this very day. I was totally convinced of WB and I still appreciate it very much (and I am still using it for the bashed patch), but what the MO devs did is beyond compare. This piece of software is incredible. It's fast, powerful, eyecandy, safe and comfy to use, easy... I'm simply completely and utterly astonished. I didn't even need to go through the tutorial and have migrated a full Skyrim Redone install with a shitload of mods and everything's working fine, including all progs I use to mod / edit mods. Thanks to the developers for this awesome mod organizer!
AwfulArchdemon Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Aaah, testimonies. Sounds like me when I first tried MO. Welcome ratrace. MO be with you.

easykill Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 What sort of FUN happens if you switch profiles midgame? Does the virtual folder skyrim is using remain? Could you open another instance of skyrim in a different profile at the same time?

Could you open another instance of skyrim in a different profile at the same time? I wouldn't know. I would never consider doing that. I foresee an ERROR in your future. Give it a shot, if you must... What's better than playing Skyrim? Playing 2 Skyrims at once! (count me out however )
bjornk Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 What sort of FUN happens if you switch profiles midgame? Does the virtual folder skyrim is using remain? You can't do that, due to the fact that there'll be files which are locked as they are in use. What I mean by that is you can change the profile but you can't do anything with it, and you cannot move/delete files from the other profile which is in use. Could you open another instance of skyrim in a different profile at the same time? That's also not possible as you can only run 1 instance of TESV.EXE at any time.

Oh no, you can definitely run more than one instance of the exe, as you can with most games - your rig might puke it's guts before they fully launch, though I've managed to have it running twice and wondered why the heck I was getting single digit fps in the middle of nowhere: If you had a second installation of MO there's nothing stopping you running a second Skyrim, I woudn't know but I'd guess there's a nifty way to get it to use the first MO's installed plugins without having them in two places.
