See I've had Skyrim running twice at once, but only because I was just starting my comp, and it took too long to start, so I started it again, thus starting Skyrim twice at once (same as opening 2 command prompts), but I've certainly never tried 2 profiles at once. I can't see that being possible now, or anytime in the future.

What sort of FUN happens if you switch profiles midgame? Does the virtual folder skyrim is using remain?

You can't do that, due to the fact that there'll be files which are locked as they are in use. What I mean by that is you can change the profile but you can't do anything with it, and you cannot move/delete files from the other profile which is in use.

Could you open another instance of skyrim in a different profile at the same time?

That's also not possible as you can only run 1 instance of TESV.EXE at any time.

Oh no, you can definitely run more than one instance of the exe, as you can with most games - your rig might puke it's guts before they fully launch, though I've managed to have it running twice and wondered why the heck I was getting single digit fps in the middle of nowhere:

If you had a second installation of MO there's nothing stopping you running a second Skyrim, I woudn't know but I'd guess there's a nifty way to get it to use the first MO's installed plugins without having them in two places.

I have no idea how you managed to run two copies. Steam generally doesn't allow running more than one copies anyway. Even if you can run two copies, how would the second copy handle the game's log files? They can't share the log files, doesn't make any sense.

I just downloaded the newest version of MO.... but I get this error message whenever I do any action in MO. Opening MO, closing MO, Changing profiles, activating/deactivating mods and Installing/uninstalling mods.

Mod_Organizer.png

The older version of MO was fine but the newest version keeps giving me that same error message.

If it helps, My computer has Windows XP 32-bit....

Oh and I have MO set to "associate with download with manager links" and that was working fine until I got a new nexus account. I changed my username and password in MO to match my new nexus account, but now whenever I click "download with manager" the mods appear in the download tab in MO but they fail every time and freeze MO for about 10 seconds before I can do anything. It then appears to have said the download has failed (in the log at the bottom), but in the download tab it shows up as paused. So I right click on it and I have the option to remove or resume the download. I click resume and it freezes for 10 seconds.... and then shows up as paused again... but in the log it says the download failed. So I keep having to manually download mods and it's getting a bit annoying because they don't show the version or category.

I had it running twice as well.. remember AwefulArchdemon?.. It was when I changed something in one and steam decided to delete everything I worked on in the one I was using because it didn't match the other's records... ;)

Anyone else using Racemenu have a problem where makeup isn't showing on the characters face? My characters eyeliner shows but eye shadow, eye tint and lip color does not change?

From the warnings, it appears it's just your default profile that's having the issue, but you say it happens no matter what you do? I'd move your game out of it's default installation location. Maybe it's Windows messing with MO. Maybe move it to C:\Games.

I've had that issue before. I thought it was due to tintmasks the body I was using gave me.

I have it the mod in question under my body texture mod. Even reinstalled it several times though i'm not too concerned atm since I only use the eyeliner

This is a dumb question i know but could load order be effecting that? Perhaps another mod is overwriting the overlays.

Nothing is overwriting the overlays.

I figured as much. The next possible cause may be improper filepath and\or miss-labeled texture files. Was the mod in question working before and has stopped working. Also, it could be due to a Racemenu update, that would again tie into the question i proposed earlier about the mod working before and not now.

I've had that update for Racemenu for awhile. I know the mod worked prior too me switching too MO when I was using NMM. I can't be sure it worked because the character I used did not have eyeshadow or eye tint on.

I figured out why I wasn't getting any makeup to show up...I did not have a race mod installed that I previously had installed thru NMM before I switched too MO. I don't really even use the race anymore which is funny but I guess my game still used it's makeup....I feel like such a dork :P

Helpful Hint #1

New users of MO.. please clean install Skyrim, the required TESedit, Creation Kit, SKSE and MO. THEN install all the mods fresh :).. Avoid those problems off the bat... :D

Sorry If this topic was covered before but it seems that MO isn't installing PCEA correctly since I am getting the "ERROR(2022): PCEA patch ticked, but not installed" error every time I run FNIS. What am I doing wrong?

Here is an interesting thing I found in the STEPS forum

Managing categories

You may have noticed as you install mods that some of them have an assigned category and some do not. Mod Organizer (MO) provides a limited set of categories out of the box. You can fix this in MO by creating the missing categories.

To configure new categories, go to Settings and click Configure Mod Categories button across the bottom of the General tab. You will get a new window with the existing categories listed. If you cannot see all of the information in this window stretch it by dragging the right or left edge out a bit.

You can do the following in this window: Single-click on a category to select it. The entire row will become highlighted. Double-clicking on ID, Name, Nexus IDs and Parent ID will enable the edit box for each one.

To add a missing category, right-click on any of the existing categories to get a little pop-up that will let you add or remove a category. Click the Add entry. A new blank category will be created above the highlighted category. MO will assign a new ID to the category with "new" as the name for it.

To add the missing Nexus category, go to the Nexus main page, hover over the Files button at the top of the page, and then select Categories to open the Categories page. To get Nexus IDs, hover over one of the categories and somewhere in your browser you should see the link preview. At the end of the link you will see CAT=some number. Example CAT=67 for Abodes - Player Homes. Go back to MO and highlight your new category. Double-click on the Nexus IDs field and enter the number you got in the previous step. Double-click on the name field to rename from "new" to the category name you want to use.

You may have noticed that some categories have nested sub-categories. You can do this from the same dialog as above. To nest a category you have to specify its Parent ID, the last column to the right of the window. For example you create a new category FOOD and MO assigns a number to it (the ID), say 25. Create another category and call it ROTTEN. Edit the Parent ID in ROTTEN to 25. ROTTEN will now be a sub-category of FOOD.

If at any time you want to remove a category, highlight it, right-click and select remove.

After you are satisfied with your edits close down MO and navigate to the MO folder and look for a file named categories.dat. Make a copy of this file and keep it in a safe place. If you ever need to re-install MO copy it back to the main folder and your edited categories will be ready to go.

No I haven't noticed nested subcategories. I don't even understand what is being instructed there.. Does anybody understand how to do this successfully?

Posted

Yea I understand that. However "Subcategories" is what I am asking about. A way to create subcategories beyond the current categories. If I understood what was being mentioned then.. I can handle the regular categories.

See pic 3? That could easily be your sub-category, if you give it the Parent ID (where I'm editing in the pic) of the mod you want it to be the subcategory of. Under Nexus IDs, you'll see an ID number for mods using that Primary Category. Find out which represents the mod you want to sub-categorize, andtype that in the Parent ID of the newly created Sub-category. ;)

As it says, go to Nexus and highlight the actual 'File' you want to download. Look at the long-ass number that shows up at the bottom of your browser, as if you were looking at a link to see where it will take you. I "think" the last 2 are the ID you need.

Posted

Ah.. I see now. I thought there was a way to give added entries as a "sub category". instead of changing a category to make it a subcategory of another one. I was using my big green brain a bit too much and over thunk it. :D. Now I understand.. Thanks. Masterful as always... ;)

To know how many mods are active in the load list, and since the mod number is in hexadecimal, it's a matter of loading up the Windows Calculator, setting it in scientific/hex mode, then input the hex code and clicking on the DEC button.

  • Collect them as well as any other files that are profile specific and create a mod for that profile.
  • Place that mod on the bottom of the list ( to override anything else ;))
  • and click it.

Repeat for any other profile you have. This includes FNIS or any other files created from that specific profile. When changing profiles. Collect that data from the overrite and drop it into the profile mod and change profiles .. Rinse and repeat for all proflies.

I do the above to prevent any accidental cross contamination of my games. It has worked so far and has been very reliable. This way I can have different FNIS setups, race menu setups and the like and no problems with other profiles.

I wish to add this feature to MO, but with LoversLab as it's host. Why should Nexus be the only one that gets a link in MO?

   Help?

This would actually be an excellent function if it were implemented with a user specified url.

I recently returned to modding after a very.. very long hiatus since my TeamBG days and noticed that modding seems to be heavily monopolised by Nexus to the point where it receives the forwards from defunct Steam Workshop groups. Add to that the slightly seedy feel of a "premium" membership peddled even at the bottom of their NMM, and I find myself thinking that it's not a good thing. It certainly bears no resemblence to the modding communities I was used to.

Needless to say there are also open questions as to the corporate nature of Nexus overriding the artistic rights of modding techniques themselves, such as what seems to have happened with merging games. A technique that in and of itself most certainly is not illegal - literally, but puts the noses of bloated publishers used to getting their own way while mid-stroke on a golf swing at their country club out of joint.

That the community leader would roll over like a kept gimp and enable publishers to dictate the direction of content in a manner above and beyond legal IP requirements speaks volumes on the spineless, greedy nature of that enterprise. Sure, having a community leader is a good thing, I understand this, as in; it provides direction. But a tin pot corporate dicatorship?

No thank you.

Being able to link to specified urls (as in more than one) within a mod manager may not be a seachange, sure, but it would be a start to some semblence to independence at least by giving modders something that modern gaming publishing seeks more than anything else to curb: choice.

Posted

i like links too. :D

But seriously...

MO will have to be a very specific team of people if the things I want are ever going to happen, but those team members are very busy, and I feel that, as I'm busy as f*** at all times. Maybe MO will find it's way to "merging" with LL, but I can't make these things happen, and neither can anyone else, except those awesome people.

Btw, welcome to LoversLab, Gambino! We look forward to seeing what you can do. ;) I'm proud your first post was @...
