However I like it better than Just Business and since the mod author is active with updates, I'm trying to make it work. I also have Fusion City Rising, Outcasts and Remnants, Project Valkyrie & Depravity. I'm not sure if you consider these relevant, but they do introduce new settlements. The ctds have happened after I tried to send freed captives to Sanctuary, Red Rocket or Abernathy Farm. So yes just vanilla settlements. Haven't tried Filene's settlement from Depravity. And again, the ctd happened a few seconds after I hit the "confirm travel" button.
Farsh-nuke Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 Yeah i head canoned that Preston freed them while i was fighting the deathclaw lol. I am still annoyed but obviously a couple of settlers weren't worth resetting the progress. Especially as i finally got mods that made the deathclaws scary enough that even with a minigun buffed by the perforation mod and Preston sniping with a mod improved lazer musket the deathclaw was terrifying strong and tough lol 1

I'm no expert at all, really, so please handle my words with caution. But I remember having read somewhere that the "Sanctuary, Red Rocket, Abernathy"-Triangle is quite bugged in regards of these things even in vanilla set-ups. You may want to try sending one of your freed captives to another settlement. 1

Those are the dreaded "Triangle of Death" of settlements -- three very popular regions, close enough together that they can all load at the same time and cause memory problems. I don't think any of the mods you listed actually change the settlement system. They definitely add a lot of resources (or let you add as many as you want) but they don't modify the scripts. Commonwealth Captives doesn't do anything special to add settlers to workshops, it uses the game's standard WorkshopParent.AddPermanentActorToWorkshopPlayerChoice() function like the vanilla system or any other settler mod. I can only guess that maybe this is a memory / resource issue due to having a lot of stuff in those settlements. I would suggest trying Buffout4 and see if it helps prevent the issue. 1

I've had it in my last set-up for a short while and quite some fun with it, until I broke the game with a too messy load-order. I'm now setting it up (while reading even a bit more about mods and stuff) and the Captives are on my list for a soon installation 1

I'd be happy to send you a crash report if you want to look at it. I don't know enough to make sense of it myself.

knockout framework is not a hard dependency for Human Resources. The developer of that mod themselves point out that the way you turn a knocked out npc into a slave is kept separate from the knocking out itself precisely so you can use another method. People use Just Business and Human Resources in tandem, using JB's hunting system to pacify an enemy before booping the JB slave with the Human Resources baton to pass the npc over to Human Resources system. Granted I haven't tested it myself as I am new enough to JB but it might be worth looking at. Oh and for all my griping about having lost two captives when I thought the deathclaw the combination of JB and commonwealth captives mean I already have 23 settlers in sanctuary and I only just got Abernathy as a settlement . Thanks for the warning about the Triangle of death I'll try to space out the settlements and refrain from building up Abernathy too much

I had a look at your stack trace, it looks a lot like a navmeshing/pathing issue. One user reported a very similar one a while back on the Buffout4 forum. It would go away if he disabled memory management in Buffout4. The real fix was to remake the navmeshes for wherever it was happening. I don't know if Expanded Settlements might be involved in that somehow. I asked the forum folks to take a look. 1

It edits a bunch of navmesh which the game will try to path through for all 3 settlements. But, without Buffout, the game will just freeze the NPC in place for several days (calculated time of arrival) then teleport them to the destination. If it's an error in a settlement, they can't coc to the build/sandbox area center, you can FT there, sleep a little bit and the NPC will teleport in. I "think" you'll find it's a Buffout issue that needs a bit of tweaking. 2

I am pretty sure it is picking up the body randomizers I got from following https://youtu.be/Mvp_SceIDmo unless you have loads more bodies in the mod than I realised! One thing I saw is when raiders are not hostile to player (like if you do a "start me up" where you start with a raider group) the raiders become hostile to captives and stand there shooting them. Is this a faction problem or something else, might something in my broad load order be doing this or is it just something the mod does? (At least let them swap to melee spankers and whips lol)

(At least let them swap to melee spankers and whips lol) The captives are part of the CaptiveFaction, which is a vanilla faction that is friends with every other vanilla human faction, the AnimalFriendFaction, and a custom faction that is friends with Deathclaws. So they *should* be friends with everyone. However, if those Raiders are in a custom faction they may not recognize the CaptiveFaction and attack them. I'll have to try out Start Me Up and see if I can address this, I've never used it before. 1

Well, the local expert on the Buffout4 forum confirmed my diagnosis that it's likely a pathing issue. Which I guess explains why everything works when you fast travel to the settlement, since they don't have to path to it. It's most likely due to a deleted navmesh or one that wasn't finalized. Now the fun part will be to figure out which mod is actually causing it, I would start with Concord Expanded like Izzyknows suggested.

Sounds more like a Start Me Up problem. I love the idea behind that mod but oh the trouble it creates! Im currently a Raider Pet meaning that as long as I act nicely, the Raiders arent hostile. The Raiders are not hostile toward captives at all. For what its worth...

SMU adds 2 raider factions but I tried making an ESP making those factions allies with the Captives factions and they still attack. Maybe they are triggering hostile in the split second before they are assigned to this mods' factions, in those moments when the script is assigning them to the cross, idk I am just worried it might happen during abductions and when sneaking around in CAP disguise, or maybe SMU does something else wrong, the raiders don't attack me tho so idk

The Raiders you start with are set to rank -1 in the Raider faction so they aren't actually members of it, and the SMU Raider factions aren't friends with the Captive faction.
