prinyo Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 I'm somewhat surprised there isn't a thread about Dylan yet. But maybe it is for the best...
Guest Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Wasn't easier to simply just use one of the existing lore names instead stupid name like that?

The term "Redfall" is what Bethesda was using for TES VI, but a novel already has the name trademarked. Zenimax is trying to sue the publisher and the author over a freaking title! Since the court dates are set well into 2020, we likely won't hear much about this for a couple of years. The Court of Public Opinion works a lot faster, though. Actually it is the other way around, the book author and book publisher is opposing Bethesda's patent on the name Redfall. The author did not claim patent on the name, and in fact claims to have reached out to Bethesda on the subject but was ignored, which is why they decided to take it to court. Their claim is the book was published in 2016, 2 full years before Bethesda filed for the patent. The author actually stated he did not mind Bethesda using the name, but opposed a patent on it because they had been working toward a movie deal on the book. Bethesda is NOT the ones doing the suing. The facts need to be correct before everyone loses their minds over this.https://www.worldipreview.com/news/sci-fi-author-sues-game-company-zenimax-over-redfall-mark-17556

I still think it's just nuts that Zeni wouldn't even respond before this went to court. Either they're so arrogant they think they're God, or they're so disorganized they deserve to be sued.
DoctaSax Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Redguards + Daggerfall = Redfall. How clever. Then again, naming games is harder than you think. There's lots of them out there, so most of the kewl names are taken. I think over time it'll probably become more the custom than not to just name it something and clear whatever legal issues arise in court or via a settlement.

They are already changing their naming theme so they might as well subtly shift to another one for their next big release, perhaps describing some aspect of the region which the story is set in such as Searing Shifting Sands (of Souls) or something to that effect (consonance is optional).
myuhinny Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Just name it Red fall Red Falls R.E.D.F.A.L.L there are tons of variations that can be used that they can't say anything about unless they pay a ton of money to patent every known variation of it.
Ernest Lemmingway Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 If the movie deal involving the novel Redfall goes through and it's picked up by a major studio, Zeni will find itself facing an even bigger bully in court: a movie studio. Bethesda also hasn't announced what they'll be showing at this year's E3. This is usually when they do so, though they've still got a week or so before they're officially late. I still expect them to announce something sooner or later. But how they're received at the expo, if they go, will be rather telling of whether they have any customer goodwill left or if they've burned those bridges.
Zor2k13 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 There was some kind of teaser thing on amazon for a while and people are saying it might be a remaster for FO3 or NV? https://www.pcgamesn.com/fallout-3/fallout-3-remaster-amazon

Plus Bethesda wouldn't remaster FONV; they've been demonstrably unfriendly to it since it launched, likely because Obsidian showed them up with better storytelling, better characterization, and a better game world. I wouldn't buy a remake of FO3 simply because I never cared for the first and I'm not buying anything from them until they either use a new, better engine or properly update the core code of the Creation Engine. Neither of which they plan on doing going by their official statements.
Zor2k13 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Well metro sucked... and now we know that outer worlds won't come out until later on this year https://www.hardocp.com/news/2019/02/25/potential_outer_worlds_release_date_leaks_out_steam Probably dying light 2 will release near that time as well and then we will get some kind of announcement at E3 from beth and if they have any sense left at all they will release starfield whatever the hell it is around november. So until that time we have moar fallout 4 to play oh boy:-( Hopefully something good comes out before august but I doubt it.
winny257 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Bethesda is for me the brightest star in the sky, if they continue like this then that happens. ?
Zor2k13 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 I stopped playing metro exodus after getting out of that church house on the water. The game was just not comparable to fallout 4 it was so much smaller. I'm sure the weapons in metro are great to look at and use but just like power armor in fallout 4, you get all dressed up and nowhere to go. I have been thinking about trying that ironsight multiplayer game if it is still free and thats about it for me. Moar fallout 4 and weeding out unwanted mods while adding new mods and testing them. Maybe in my lifetime fallout 4 new vegas mod will come out maybe and I can always get a quick laugh when thinking about if WARS mod will come out. All these new online stores like epic will be the downfall of gaming on pc. So many scurrying off to get their own store going it reminds me of the gaming crash in the early 80s. When crest toothpaste and craft cheese and oreos have their own online game store platforms thats it the thing is done. Just a few more new stores really and it will put people off enough to the point where they don't game anymore or not nearly as much as the used to. Beth would have a real opportunity to make a good single player game that somehow did something online with starfield it strikes me as another mass effect series hopefully without all the failings of mass efffect. They can have their online shit to some extent and a single player too they just have to do it right and focus on co-op and pvp could be limited to an online only world space. No more robbing other peoples camps just fighting each other in the same space.
Kendo 2 Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 On the subject of Bethesda fuckery and Amazon... I'm done with Bethesda. I said years ago that Bethesda would revive paid mods. People on this site told me I didn't know what I was talking about. Then the Creation Club came. I said Bethesda would make their next big release a Beth.net exclusive. Say Hello to FO76. I said FO76 can't be modded without violating the license and was I told yet again I didn't know what I was talking about. Viola, Bethesda starts banning people for modding FO76. I said Bethesda would add pay-to-win to FO76 and I got 'shut up Kendo, they will not!' Yeah, and that came true as well. Between Bethesda showing themselves as the shit stains they are, and the growing number of clueless fan base cultists; the games just aren't worth the headache. Their games were fun (for what they were) and the fan base was equally enjoyable. That shit is long dead.
Reginald_001 Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Maybe you guys should rename this thread to 'Let's complain about Bethesda'. Just a thought.

Ernest Lemmingway Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 I don't think an FO3 remaster will go that well if it's anything like SSE: no real updates besides a 64-bit engine and...the CC to exploit the gullible idiots who use it! People are already pissed off at Bethesda for [censored] and more of the same tired bullshit is just going make it worse. Even if it is graphically remastered, who wants to bet they'll just recycle FO4 assets? Or worse still, the game mechanics? If that's the case, whoever comes out for their presentation at E3 will know what Activision went through last year if they don't wind up a salad.
Zor2k13 Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 No way they do a F4NV or F4FO3 maybe just a 64bit engine without all the crashy crashy and some cash grab club activity for a while.
Guest Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Thread is gone too far and the OP removed itself. And there are lot of accusations to other members. Thread locked.
