myuhinny Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 They should of came out with a Legacy Edition before they started cramming shit in to it.
Shadowhawk827 Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/news/12345/? Alright, can someone explain how nexus knows what OS people use? Either they took a survey or NMM is giving Nexus peoples personal info. Am i missing something obvious here? And what's with the blaming Google Chrome for blocking NMM, afterall, why is it wrong for it to block infectious software? Wait.........do you smell something? Bull_Shit_by_NewtMan.jpg That's child's play to look up. IIRC vbb software (some brands) even have an option to display that info under your name. The software - any network based software - has to know what OS and Browser you're using to know how to best interface with you though. Case and point about how easy it is to do though: http://xenforo,com/community/threads/os-browser-display-paid.69178/ or just google 'display another user's OS and Browser'
Rayblue Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54721 What a fucking dork. Ticked off a lot of people and ENB authors.
Rayblue Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54721 What a fucking dork. Ticked off a lot of people and ENB authors. Damn......yeah that's going to rustle some peoples jimmies. I roll my eyes and laugh whenever someone comes out with a mod called "ultimate".
Kendo 2 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 That guy will probably be the next BlackBlossom. Hi-rez/Hi-detail/Ultimate/etc. He's already half way there on the morals side since he ripped other authors' works, didn't credit them, and is pretending he reinvented the fucking wheel.
myuhinny Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Seems there is a tag abuse law for mods as well. 7 days full week time out. http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1785620-harrismodifications-formal-warning-issued/
Guest Omega1084 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54721 What a fucking dork. Ticked off a lot of people and ENB authors. I wouldn't exactly call that a dork xD I roll my eyes and laugh whenever someone comes out with a mod called "ultimate". The Dance of Death Ultimate Edition was pretty Ultimate to me.
mkprovince Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Say, have you guys seen this? http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54725/? I'm curious as whether some random moderator would come and drop the hammer.

Damn......yeah that's going to rustle some peoples jimmies. I roll my eyes and laugh whenever someone comes out with a mod called "ultimate". Besides that...when I measure his ENB preset according the pics he uploaded, this is far from my personal taste (and lots of other people's taste I guess...). Too saturated, too bright, strange colors, too noisy....(it's ENB, we don't talk about realism, but there are great, good and less good presets, according the pics this is a less good preset...)
gaikotsu Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Alright. What if someone went to the Nexus and posted in the forum or chat "YARR, I'M A LEECHING PIRATE! AHOY, MATIES!!"? How long would it take for a permaban? I didn't exactly say that, but when Skyrim first came out, I pirated it just to see if I could run it before I bought it. In Nexus chat, someone said something about needing Steam to run it, and I was like, "You don't need Steam to run it" (not knowing shit about the whole 'Steam Only' thing). The person who said that, narked to an admin in chat, and that was that. I think it took them 5min to perma. I just changed my ip and made a new account after I bought it and it's all good

They can't really be on the net twenty four seven or they're surfing still while on the job.

Rayblue Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Some cracker just declared war on the website. Trying to get even after being permabanned.
mkprovince Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Probably the same one again and again. I saw that "repair manual" guy posting on Nexus yesterday with the same picture and link method. Guess he never quits.
Kendo 2 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Well, the hallmark of the Nexus staff is fucking with people and then laughing about how no one can do anything about it. It is no surprise (to me at least) that out of the thousands of people they have banned over the years (justly or unjustly) they happened to ban someone with the capability and personal drive to fuck them back. I'm not saying the average member deserves to suffer, but Nexus/Dark0ne/His staff bring this shit on themselves and the Nexus members. If you willy-nilly ban people and then gloat about it, if you do that thousands of times, chances are one of those banned people is going to get even. It's an odds game. Anyway, Dark0ne has no reason to cry or bitch about it. He brought it on himself by allowing his staff to do what they do, how he conducts himself, and the site security he is responsible for. As big as Nexus is, it is going to be attacked regardless. Add to that Dark0ne and his staff's ass-itudes and a faulty security system people are aware of. The outcome is obvious and I have no sympathy.
Rayblue Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Yeah, payback's a bitch. I was expecting something like this to happen given their long history of curbstomping. From one responding comment: ApacheiSkyHair
Guest Omega1084 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 It's kind of shitty that they'd do that. Y'think they realize what they're doing and don't care or they just think they're getting the upper hand on D0rky and will become heroes in doing so?
Guest Mogie56 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 It's one thing to go after the website itself but this D-Bag went after some of the highest ranking mods not Darkone's site. A clueless piece of shit that didn't hurt the nexus, he hurt the modders. If it was for revenge he clearly didn't think, at least not with the head on his shoulders.
Cynical Misanthrope Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Well, I am no expert when it comes to hacking, but I have seen a few documentaries about the subject and in most cases, the hacker(s) often use tactics like this (by that I mean, use or exploit a regular user computer and from there work towards the main goal) to get to the bigger fish. They don't have the intention to harm you and me at all, but we end up like a victim of war in the process anyway. They do this to avoid detection, or make it harder to be tracked. Microsoft is a good example as well. To hurt the company, hackers create viruses and all kind of shit, and then we get infected and Microsoft has to find a solution and release hotfix/cure. Or this how it used to be anyway and there are cases when hackers has actually been offered a job, to find exploits etc etc, so Microsoft can fix these errors or exploits. This is just a tiny example of how some hackers work. The main goal is to hurt the big fish at the end. Ofc, Earth is filled with scumbags, who deserve to blow the end of the barrel and then take the load in their mouths. And ofc, there are some hackers that do the opposite, but they are a small group in comparison. But as I said, not all hackers want to harm you, just use your PC for their agenda. And ofc, it can be debated if this is the way to go. And sadly, sometimes there are innocent victims involved. Totally unrelated to this, but this makes me think about that TV-show Continuum. The principle is the same. To stop corporations to get more power in the future, a group of "Terrorists" is sent back in time to influence current time. They kill and do all of kind of fucked up stuff, but it's for the "greater good" I must say, I have felt several times some kind of compassion towards them. They have their hearts in the right place so to speak.
Chaos63 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'm all for sticking it to the man, especially if he is an enormous arsehole, but the nexus is in enough disarray without pissed off vigilantes running about. I'm right with you on wanting to beat the shit out of the staff and moderators, but sadly the site is to this day our main source of mods, as flawed as it is. So until somebody stages a successful coup, this serve no purpose.
Guest Omega1084 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 As core said. This is really just adding fuel to the fire and a justifying the staff's behaviour. It's not helping anyone. And if they do succeed to take the whole site down then what? We're all fucked because 90% of our mods come from there. :|
ratrace Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I have a large backup of Nexus mods for all games I use and that are supported on that site (which in my case are Oblivion and Skyrim). I started that when Nexus got all sluggish or often was completely down. I highly recommend you guys doing so as well. God knows... perhaps the next hacker IS a hacker and not a fucking script kiddie that assembled some malware with one of the many toolboxes out there. I mean, uploading an exe is VERY obvious, at least for people that know how mods like SkyUI look like. Unrequested or unnecessary exe files should make anyone suspicious by the way. But there'll come a day when the Nexus is compromised by a drive by viruses or the like. Besides, when Dark0ne says that it is such a great aspect of security that the moderators have to be on a dedicated IP to have access to the admin tools, he should consider that IPs can easily be spoofed. Even mac addresses can (unique hardware IDs that are being sent over the net to identify a network adapter). A huge step towards security for any site like the Nexus is to force all moderators by account expiring mechanisms to at least monthly (better: weekly) choose a new password of considerable strength to be able to log on to the admin / moderator section at all. There are tools available that you can store on a personal encypted USB stick that work as a password storage. Get each moderator one and a lot of trouble can be avoided or at least minimized when some password harvesting malware roams one of the moderators PCs.
