Steams new approach ?

It'll be interesting to see what new stuff ends up on steam, but all I can think of is how any potentially adult games added to steam will likely still not be available where I live.  Local laws regarding the videogame industry have already prevented me from getting a few games I was interested in, for instance Gal Gun.  It was available for about a week after it hit steam, then it got blocked where I live, I think the words used were something along the lines of the lack of challenge, suggestive nature, and implied youth of the characters meant the only point of the game was sexual content involving characters that could be seen as underaged.  What I take from that is, here at least, whoever decides a game is inappropriate for the local market will probably hit any game they deem sexual content to be the primary purpose of.  My point is steam can say they'll host whatever as long as it's not illegal but things will probably still be subject to your country's own censorship laws.

That is the general idea but if steam accidentally releases a game that is not behind that barrier then the store would be responsible.

"Accidentally" is somewhat misleading imho. Which countries/cultural approach do you use to draw the line? Germany/Europe is much more relaxed towards nudity and swearing than U.S., here it's rather violence and gore (and at least in germany, Nazi stuff). For example i've tried a game for free during the weekend called "Tooth and tails", kinda real time strategy. From the art i'd rather consider it for children but man, this game is cruel. You're playing rats or mice and your revolution starts when another faction ate your son on a feast. And ofc you plan to do the same to them. Imho that's not a childrens game anymore, but what do i know.

That said, i appretiate Steams decision to go somewhat agnostic towards ideology. It's none of their business what we believe, and they shouldn't act as it would be. Or the other way around.

And while this may have started with Huniepop i still think VR might have played a role, and the porn industry is pushing there hard.

Personally I guess violence would be my biggest concern. Don't want some random kid swinging around a knife like it is okay to bloody do it. What I don't get is rejecting Nudity and pornographic material. People breed like rabbits where I live anyway yet I don't understand why these same people want to stop pornographic material. So yeah there are people (we'll call them people in this instance) are still making a big deal out of nudity in a public setting.

Valve- Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh... I'll get back to you on that one

Well the problems with local laws won't just go away.

Example Fallout 3, this game did not get an "age rating" by the authorities in Germany back in 2008. Meaning that it can not be sold or advertised publicly, since games without an age rating end up on "The Index" which equals a lifetime ban/censorship.

Germany being the world's biggest market for PC games, they did of course add a local version where gore and blood effects are disabled.

Even though FO3 was taken off "The Index" in 2016, Steam still only sells this horrible "low violence version" to this very day which additionally forces players to use the german translation (booo!).

Also, Fallout NV (2010) and Fallout 4 (2015) have the exact same blood and gore effects, but could always be bought in their original uncut version.

Surely Steam only follows the local laws here, no matter how irrational and inconsistent these might be.

On topic of actual nudity in games - wasn't the original problem with nudity that PayPal would not deal with websites selling "pornographic" content?

I guess PayPal has changed their policies, because some sites like allover30.com now accept PP as regular payment without tricks or workarounds.

Honestly I think it's a good policy as long as they find a way for people to customize filters so that they only see the types of stuff they want to see.  Presumably that will be mostly automatic based on your previous browsing/buying history.  By now Steam should know that I don't like sports games but I love RPGs and Strategy games.  Not really sure how they'd be able to get away with full on adult content though without a huge backlash from parents unless they made it a completely separate page with a completely separate login, probably requiring a CC#.

What do you all think? I'm leaving Steam! They are way too biased & judgmental! I think Lovers Lab is the best thanks for not being biased or judgmental like Steam & Valve I'm done uploading there!

With that principle in mind, we've decided that the right approach is to allow everything onto the Steam Store, except for things that we decide are illegal, or straight up trolling. Taking this approach allows us to focus less on trying to police what should be on Steam, and more on building those tools to give people control over what kinds of content they see.

CyberPunks sexual content won't be anymore than we've seen on other games with "sexual content" that are already on Steam, if anyone thinks a major developer will release a game with sex features like Sexlab or Sexout, they are delusional.

Yeah would be like expecting Hollywood to directly release pornographic movies. Not happening. And given that the closest they've tried has produced products like Showgirls that is probably a good thing ?

Rockstar and Volition have done a decent job with "mature" titles. If they would just make and release modding tools for their games, then LL could show them how it's done!

Wait.. you never saw Nymphomaniac? There's some proper nuts stuff going on in there.. I was actually shocked when I saw the uncensored version, a blow job with cumshot in a train, hard SM and penetration scenes. Shit I'm still shocked by this movie when I think back to it, stuff in there I don't even want to repeat here.. and I WROTE IVY.. m'kay? :D

Of course it's not a real 'hollywood' title, but it has some straight A actors.

While not Hollywood itself doesn't Game of Thrones pretty much fulfill that criteria as i've seen some scenes from the series on free porn sites

They made extensive use of CGI and body doubles; none of the famous actors engaged in penetrative sex. I still enjoyed

seeing Charlotte Gainsbourg 'appear' to get fucked up the ass ;)

That scene with the coat hanger.... I thought of what a visibly shaken Al Goldstein said upon exiting the theatre after the premier

of 'Salo-120 Days of Sodom' - "Jesus! That was too fucking much!"

Indeed. In fact, *this* happened:

I'd like to enjoy the very thought that LL had something to do with Steam's stance on adult games being sold on their site. Nothing would make me feel better than that..if only to constitute a dick slap to every guardian of morality out there.

Boast heaps of violent and sexual content... Take lots of pre-Orders... Release Disney version, can't do Sex due to censorship... $$$Proffit$$$ !!!

The "Disney-fication" (?) wasn't because of Steam though, but because they wanted a console release.

...How that made any sense for a game like that is another question entirely.

It's been like that ever since I remember. Dismemberment, bowels ripped open, beheadings, torture, cutting, blood, breaking bones, no matter what gore you can imagine... it's all just fine... but a vagina or penis is shown and everybody goes bonkers!
