@Juliette Tango, damn, I feel caught now... ?

I did some work on this Victorian mansion, including some first furnishing, and if I don´t count the time it needed to rebuild the frieses, and remove them, and build them, and remove them and build them again, and re... It was a little boring but in the end I had this:

It is still not finished, and @mrrakkonn: I don´t count the hours anymore. Luckily building is done "ingame" instead of working in an editor, and so I can easily make a break and continue, when I want without loading the house into my library first. But I spended more than 50 hours for this particular build, but have to admit, that some of this time was needed for learning techniques, how to build with friezes in a more advanced way.

The house, where I am playing in, is also slowly becoming a nice building. I did some work on the facade, and a chimney and two fireplaces had to be built against the horrible cold in Arizona. Although the pics were made in buildmode, it´s currently winter in my game, and Yuki was freezing, really! :classic_laugh:

And then, as it can be seen in the previous picture in the background, I eventually started working on the bar in Strangerville. This building was on my list from the first day on. It´s not the most bad build of Maxis but, well, it could have looked better, and also could have contained more features. Now it has two bars, a dance floor, a kicker, two rooms for card games on two floors, a roof for group activities, and two bowling lanes in the basement. This should help my sims with socializing. And other than the Victorian mansion I needed roundabout four hours for this one, and it is nearly finished, I only have to playtest it, and maybe I will add two or three details and some objects and furniture on the roof before uploading.

I think, it looks quite nice between it´s neighbors:

Thank you very much. I'll definitely keep an eye out for them.

@carlfatal As the resident building expert this question is directed to you, but anyone can please feel free to answer. I've  been uninspired to decorate rooms lately, and decided to pull out some of my old builds from 2016 and 2017.

Here is one of them that was built from floor plans. It was my first attempt to put a usable hot tub in the back deck. It has several issues; the windows need updating, I threw out the garage doors and need to replace them, the roofs can now be extended (couldn't back then). The sliding doors on the back of the house broke. I quickly threw on some replacements, just now (will pick better ones later). Of course the landscaping is not done either. My question: Is there a way to put a fence alongside a roof? I had to shorten the roof at the back of the house to lessen the effect on the second floor deck.

Haha, thanks. I can't take credit for the design of the house, ? though it does take A LOT of work trying to get the design to fit within the limitations of the game. The internal decorating uses a decent amount of CC. For example, it had a CC washer & dryer, which I have since thrown out, because Laundry Day SP was not released yet. I'd have to go through and replace a bunch of it, update the windows & doors, etc. I'll see what I can do. but it will take a fair amount of time, unless you want an unfurnished version (or minimally furnished). Once I update the windows, that shouldn't take too long.

Also, for future reference. Unless you want to make note of a specific picture, you can delete them from the quote. It saves people from having to go through it twice, and also helps load faster.

This is a really nice craftsman styled home. Too sad, that baufive didn´t convert his stuff for the Sims 4... He was one of my favourite Sims 3 creators for buildmode stuff. It´s so sad to see the windows on your build, dang EAxis and their patches... I even have no clue, where to get nice craftman´s objects, I have a few in my game but they are Maxis, and I don´t know, which addons contain them, cause i have all of them exept pet´s stuff. But if you have most addons too, it shouldn´t be too hard to fix the windows issue to a point, that can make you satisfied with the outcome. I think, there are even matching sets for sliding doors and windows, if it comes to swatches.

Sadly I am not really an expert in these early to mid-century US-suburb houses, especially as I am living in Europe. Here the spreading began in the fifties, and then it´s really modern architecture, not that conservative styled homes like it was before in the US.

To your question: I used a lot of the small old fences alongside the roof of the Victorian mansion on my last pictures. You can easily see the fence running around the mansards. Extending the roofs: There is another small trick: If you use shift and the small arrow together, you can expand (or shrink) them on only one side. This can be very helpful to hide roof parts, where they would be visible otherwise. This and doubling roofparts is a good method to build porches more easily, if there is no bay, that would hide the ends. for example.

Also you should try a lot with the roof-friezes, they can look nice, cause like the most other stuff, you can place them with shift and the according building tool. So you can use nore than only one kind of them on one build.

And: hehe, if you know some good garage doors... I would love to have some like the ones on the floor plan of this house. At least when the next patch will be released, we´ll have so much more possibilities to place rooms with different floor heights, and then there should be no problem anymore to build houses with garages, even if they have a fundament and porches. So I would give you the advice to wait passionately for this patch and possibly fixed mods afterwards. It will be a revolution, that´s for sure.

And while I am not sure, if you will find matching stuff there, here two sites for builders: https://illogicalsims.tumblr.com/ , and Aden/DevonBumpkin linked me to: https://harrie-cc.tumblr.com/

Both blogs provide well made CC, illogical has some maxis match addons for tiny living and moschino too, so very useful.  Hoppe I could help you! :classic_shy:

@carlfatal Thanks. That was helpful. First, in terms of fences and roofs, I did in fact notice all the fences you put up. It's a really nice touch, and I love it. The problem exists since the beginning, and still today, that fences and half-walls only work at the end of the roof, not beside them.

I didn't think there's any way to correct this problem, but figured I'd ask you, with all your experience, if you had some "magical" solution.

It turns out the creator of those windows (Peacemaker's vaulted ranch windows) updated them just recently. I really NEED those windows, and I use them in a lot of my builds. Here is the 4th house I ever built (2nd using floor plans), which could not be possible without those windows. It took me 1 week to build, 3 weeks to decorate, and 2 weeks for landscaping. We only had 5 packs back then, so the interior decorating used a lot of CC (I spent a lot of time CC shopping). Slowly, I've been replacing the CC with Maxis stuff, but originally there were about 300+ CC pieces. This was by far my favorite build. I love this house, inside and out.

NOTE: That weird-looking area on the left was a waterfall that I'm in the middle of rebuilding. Imagine it has water coming down, and sims can go behind it, and shower in it.

The new platforms will help a great deal, but you can't make them too high, or else the ceilings will be too low to fit things, and eventually sims won't be able to walk in those rooms. Making garages is not as big an issue as it seems, if you know a few tricks.

First of all, like stairs, the garage should be planned early on. Deleting the floor of the garage to match the driveway needs to be done before you build on top of it. When you delete the floor, it will delete the roof and any rooms on top. So delete the floor first, then build on top.

@2cool4u_1, thank you!

I only know the garage doors from Maxis, and they aren´t placable in a way, that they overlap wall and foundation, or maybe they do now, as windows can be handled more freely. I need to check it out. But on the other hand those videos, you´ve linked to... This is some crazy way to build, I really have to learn a lot, I´m still a rookie, not an expert. And those self made doors look much more realistic than anything else. I need to try out much more and shouldn´t stay with my conservative thinking any longer.

The windows on your house do look nice indeed. And when you said, that you can´t play without them, this reminds me of some of madaya´s windows for Sims 3. Used once, addicted forever... And yes, I would be very thankful or a link to them, or at least to the site. I fear to crash my game with more CC, than I am using now, but you know: Shoot first, ask later! ?

And the other house on your first two pictures is such a beauty... What a mansion, and it reminds me in a way of Frank Lloyd Wright´s wonderful architecture. Love it! ?

And like I said, I am not an "experienced" builder, Only I build since Sims 2, and I am very interested in architecture in general. But I ust started playing Sims 4 this year, I don´t count the few hours of gameplay, when it came out, and I was completely disappointed of it. So it is no wonder, that I even didn´t check, what you meant with throwing fences at the sides of roofs. I never encountered this problem, cause I didn´t build enough houses to do so. Me beeing a rookie...

But well, I think, I need to throw a few pictures in as well. I´ve started a typical suburb home yesterday, and it´s not such an interesting one, only two shoe boxes put together. The main focus here is the basement, cause I wanted to build something with a foundation and a basement, like I had seen in one of lilsimsie´s vids. It´s easy to do as long, as you build the basement independent from the house. In this case here I started with the ground floor, followed by the basement, and then I raised the foundation. The last step was adding stairs at the in- and outside. But this time all rooms in the basement have windows, and that is something I really wanted to have.

It´s not finished yet, and today I had more fun to build my first real pond at the front than continuing the house itself, so this will need a while for furnishing and gardening. It´s a three bedroom, two bathroom home in Del Sol Valley.

You're right. Those City Living doors are ugly, and they're too narrow to look like proper garage doors. I found a wide one, but it still doesn't look right. They're not placeable on foundations either ...unless experience has taught you a thing or two.

I'll try to make a tutorial, but I think I'm going to try one using one of the tutorials I previously linked, for this house.

I think the reason why I like those windows as much as I do, is because they're "plain" so they fit with a lot of styles, especially the more modern houses. Here's a link to Peacemakers site, but I warn you, you might not be able to resist downloading something.

Thanks for the compliment on the house. I asked about the fences just in case, but it's not an issue that comes up often. I also can't remember having this problem in Sims 3. Either I never needed to do it, or it worked fine in the other game. You may be a rookie in using Sims 4, but you are talented and obviously experienced with building in general.

Now to stay on topic for this thread, pictures;

@2cool4u_1,

thank you so much for the links. You were so right, when I stumbled on piecemaker´s site, I eventually downloaded ALL of his Maxis addon sets. Dang me... :classic_blink:

And the tutorials on YT were helpful, like I said, there are sometims ways to get around, if one has a better imagination. It´s not given to everybody to look for example an a desk and then use this said desk as a part for a rooftop. But there often are simple solutions for any given situation, it´s only needed to see them. Like thoses garage doors. But well, Schnuck is a really good builder, and I remember me seeing some of her videos and being like "oh my, that is so obvious..." If you see it, yes... :classic_laugh:

Btw: found this mummy costume a few days ago by myself, they are made for the wrong game, as we have no mummies like in TS3 now. But cool pictures with those glowing eyes anyway! ?

The mansion! ? It has everything!

But I didn't even show you everything it has; two fishing spots, secret underground passages, secret underground room for S&M play / vampire crypt / spell caster lair, a wishing well (meh), and more. Then there's inside, but it only has 2 TVs.? It's like I expected people to play outside or something.

@Molevalence Cute sim. I really like Rebecca's look. I was nearly done replacing the CC on the house, to share it. My Origin app stopped working 2 days ago. I've been desperately trying to get it to work before Patch Day tomorrow, but no luck. Once I get it working, I should be able to post the house.

I just want to rant for a second:

:( I still cant really find a place to post all of my content.

I've made a lot of stuff recently but just haven't feel confident enough to share it like all 100 lewd pictures from one photoshoot or 15+ gifs. Should I considering starting a word press blog even though I know engagement is poor? I forget that LL has a blog option as well ?I like keeping a thread on LL but barely anyone gives any feedback, wouldn't a blog get even less interaction? ?I like that I can post as much I want on my thread without fear of crowding though. I've also joined a few Discord servers had been great but even there if I post more than 3 things in one sitting I feel as if I am spamming.

Oh well. Anyway, here are some lewd pictures of my Yuuri Katsuki Sim. MaleXMale Porn in the spoilers

Thank you. Take your time on the home. When I play my sims family right now I'm currently working on Rebecca's painting and sum accumulation to get a new home for the growing family.
