@R-Lo I see you're enjoying Reshade.  How rough is Reshade on the computer or is it something just meant for taking screenshots and not playing the game in?  The Sims look so much better through Reshade that I'm tempted on running the program on my computer but want to make sure I dont blow up my barebones computer over pretty images ;)  Any insight you could offer would be appreciated.

Hiya!

Yes I would be lost without the Reshade now and it's a key part of the game for me ?

It does demand some extra power but same time it can be a trade off,

Some of settings can interrupt reshade, like the edge smoothing.

If turned on it'll conflict with depth of field (background blur) and MXAO (ambient occlusion)

So Edge smoothing is turned completely off and can be replaced with FXAA and SMAA which is actually a bit less demanding,

Its possible to play without too much impact if your only adjusting the colour but when you use the more powerful stuff like things that affect lighting/bloom or shadow, you can see some change,

One way to reduce it can be to use rooms or lots without too much fx heavy cc,

Also the size of the household is a factor,

On a less powerful computer, a full house will have chopper frame rate than a house with one or two sims,

Although it looks nice in pics, it can obstruct the UI so it is a bit limited for play,

There are some presets that are play friendly though and it's possible to add multiple versions and switch between them in game,

Also there's a slight delay on booting up the game so don't be alarmed if it takes a minute or two!

I hope this helps!

Also, you may find this tutorial useful..

Its for an older version but it give you the gist of how it works and how to install/remove it ?

There are a lot of different reshade presets. Some are intended to be used only for screenshots, some are for gameplay. Some are dramatic shifts in visuals, some are minor and merely enhance the base visuals. I like Simemi's V2 preset. It brightens up the world and colors just enough to give the game some pop, without going overboard and washing out the UI like some others do. The base game looks so drab and flat without it. I could never go back.

@R-Lo, @frankstallone - thank you both for your insight.  I guess it's something I should look into as I really like how the images pop on your screenshots.   Just been weary of adding too much stuff to a barebone system that you get from Bestbuy with an integrated graphic card :(  Game already takes a minute or two to load up but that's more because of the gigz of CC I got but was more concerned about generating extra heating for the system to handle (as I'm sure you're aware of already, the cooling systems suck for these systems).

Again thank you both :D

@CanadianGhost Hi! I guess you are using a laptop, since you mentioned heat? Monitor your temps with something like HWinfo64. As long as everything runs no higher than 76 degrees Celsius your components should be OK.

I find that, regardless of resolution or graphics bells and whistles, if I don't limit the frame rate to 60 fps, things can get quite hot. Typically, a game can be running fine, then I pause to the menu and fps goes to 90 or 100 or above, and I can hear the fans start to hit max rpm.

Best wishes on your foray into reshade!  I think any of those presets that frankstallone suggested should not be too stressful.

Oddly enough, running a desktop but I can see where you got that impression from.  Heat was an issue for my laptops, so decided to try to avoid that problem when i picked up a desktop instead.  Ha, that showed me.  I use Speccy to monitor system temperature, usually when i play Sims, it'll be at 71 to 73 degrees.  During a heavy sequence, usually in between loads/saves, itll spike up to 76.  I'll have to check to see if I got a framerate cap on it the next time I pop in the game.  I dont experience any problems now with the game but did have one incident where the computer shut down during the game - unfortunately I wasn't at the computer at the time of the shutdown but I suspected it was due to heating as it was warm to the touch.  Did some adjusting with the settings and been fine since.  Just trying to be cautious if I examine Reshade.  Thank you tho for your help :)

You're welcome! ?

Dont worry too much,

I've only recently upgraded to a better machine myself 2 months ago,

Before that, EVERYTHING I've done has been on a low powered machine.

Like I say, for me it was a trade off in power demands,

On my i3 I played the game in fairly low settings and Reshade actually improved my frame rate in some respect,

The edge smoothing in game is pretty demanding and by removing that and swap for Reshade's anti aliasing actually made my frames run less choppy! ?

I disabled the the edge smoothing and also the anti aliasing on the graphics card,

Then in reshade I used

FXAA

SMAA

Adaptive sharpen

Colourfulness

This gives a nice vibrant look and made it easier on the eye while I play,

Then I would add the heavier stuff while the game is paused.

You can assign the shaders to hot keys for easy use on the fly!

So that way you can activate multiple shaders after hitting pause,

Laptops are designed to get hot so try not to be too anxious! But same time try build some smaller lots or make 'studio rooms' for certain scenes,

I have houses that are full of clutter but same time, I'll have certain rooms saved to library as a 'studio/film set' ?

The more sims and items on the lot... The more it taxes your hardware

Ok, so I downloaded Reshade, did like they showed in the video, but nothing happens when I hit shift+f2.  A different video said the newer version they just downloaded used Home instead, but that doesn't do anything either.

What am I missing?

Nevermind, I got it!  BOTH of the tutorials I saw said "pick the version you use, I use the 64-bit..."  Well, I had been using the 32-bit, I guess because that's what the setup automatically created a shortcut to.  ReShade comes up the way they show if you use the 64-bit, but not the 32-bit.

For the first time ever, I've made a story using another user's characters. Let me give a special thank you to @Hentaiface for sharing his lovely sims, Gina and Charlotte. If it wasn't for them, this story would not exist.

Here are some preview shots:

@porkybork Either my internet is acting out or something got messed up with your pictures in the post here and the blog as well. There are just file names shown instead of some of them (and I've tried re-loading the page just to be sure). ? Sorry for the bad news, I'll definitely check the story out once this is sorted out. ?

Ditto, unfortunately a lot of the pics are broken.  What I COULD see was pretty damn cool though.

I'm not seeing them either. The few times I've tried to attach a photo it hasn't worked. I tried pasting in the URL, using the 'Insert other media' option, and the attach file option. It's made more confusing because the pictures displayed correctly in the preview panel and immediately after pressing submit, then they disappeared or turned into a string of characters on subsequent loadings.

How do you normally put photos into posts?

Well, in sharing some shots of how much better my game looks with Reshade, I kind of gave away a spoiler- Nikita and Heather apparently living together.  So I'll wrap up the story arc showing how it ended up like that.

The "price" the Sages asked for wasn't as ominous as it sounded.  In fact, they chuckled when Nikita told them what a goose she was, and weren't really sure what they should ask her for.  Since they felt Mehki was a good judge of character, they set the whole thing up- seekers of knowledge would eventually end up at Mehki's door, he would decide who would and who wouldn't turn out to be a homicidal maniac, and the decent ones were given a nonsense phrase to repeat to the Sages.  In the end, each Sage asked for something they personally wanted.

Simeon Silversweater just wanted what Nikita gives away for free all the time.1821178303_09-27-19_1-42-16AM.png.d25eea0ca997cce1359b4a1eb75164f1.pngL. Faba-  now L. Vatore in my game, she married Caleb-  wanted this cool and valuable Omiscan calendar plate.

And Morgyn Embers just wanted a cowplant berry.  Because he wanted a cowplant and didn't already have one, that's why.

754457444_09-27-19_1-51-13AM.png.014e58110aa2688eaf2f64804862c022.png

They taught her some new and very lethal spells.  But would any of them work on a vampire?  It was time to find out.  Nikita had to end this before she could even go home.

For once, one of my sims had a good idea autonomously!  As soon as she arrived in front of Straud Manor, she pulled out her guitar and started playing.  Of course, Vlad loves music and appeared almost immediately.

579287024_09-25-19_3-22-09AM.png.a8da347575265b4b3d4eeca446385d2f.pngThe enhanced fire spell was about as effective as shouting insults.  477845715_09-25-19_3-23-29AM.png.cf42a4c9de56b0fb9faf99837a5bd40d.png

But a spell they called "Explosio" worked so well I didn't get a screenshot!  I don't know why I didn't at least get a pic of the Grim Reaper, but, the next screenshot in my folder is from when Nikita went inside to talk to Heather.

"I'm glad he's dead.  But what happens to me now?"

"Why don't you come home with me?"

"Uh..."

"Or wait here for the courts to sort it out.  With no heirs, the estate goes to the government, and they'll sell you."

"Right, I'm coming with you.  Anyone who hates Vlad enough to kill him is... a normal, decent person."

The next three days went by VERY slowly for both of them.  Nikita wanted Heather, but wasn't going to touch her until the conditioning wore off.  And Heather felt increasingly lousy as her Pink level dropped.

Too bad you can't do anything to help a passed out sim.  It seems weird to just leave your friend face-planted on the floor.

Game on at last!  Nikita didn't want to use a slave, but she very much wanted to play with a friend.

I insert them directly from my computer to the forum with the "choose files" option at the bottom of the box.  I've never had a problem doing it that way.  I did have a lot of trouble linking from other sites, eg. I used to try to host them on Imgur.

@frankstallone I always do it by clicking the "choose files" option below the comment text. The files then appear in the "Uploaded images" area. Then I click the little plus icon on the bottom left of each image to insert it in the text.

Like this:

One more thing-- if you upload a pic and then decide not to use it, remember to delete it with the trash can icon.  Otherwise, all pics that were uploaded but not added yet will get added to the end of the post anyway.

@frankstallone That's the way I do it too. You can just drop them directly into the post, amidst the text, but that sometimes gets messed up, especially when uploading multiple images.

Posted

God fuckin' cunt, alright, I'll try again later. Everything looks fine on my end, so I can't even tell when it fucks up like this.

When I upload images onto here, I usually drag and drop the images from my computer to the "drag files here to attach" thing. It might've messed up because I copied and pasted the images from the text block here to the blog without the image files being in the "drag" section below. Then, I copied and pasted the images from the blog back here into the preview. I'm guessing this is what's causing issues, like the images are technically there, but there's no data to back them up. That sounds plausible, right?

I was originally gonna post the whole thing here, but decided to put it into a blog since it ended up being really long and I didn't want to clutter this thread too much.

Good thing I came here first. I was about to put all those images into the trash.

EDIT: Forgot this was an image sharing thread. So, uh, have this:

If that doesn't show up, I quit.
