SE Compatibility Tracking (Jul 30)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi ! So confused about this one simple thing!:

WTHeck version of Skyrim is 100% set on the bet with this list???! Is this 1.5.97?! I need the version with most mods compatible as I could care less about the CC and I will not go LE.

So is SE 1.5.97 safe 100% of the time or are there mods that say SE that will only support newer versions than 1.5.97 etc?

The front page says "SkyrimSE.exe Steam version 1.6.640 (September 2022)" <-- EXTREMELY CONFUSING. I thought this is AE!!!!?

AE are the versions of SE beyond 1.5.97.

Ah thanks! So why does this thread say "SE Compatibility Tracking" if the front page lists version 1.6.640 next to the check? Shouldn't this thread be properly re-titled to "AE Compatability Tracking" to not confuse all the noobs like me?

Also while AE may be any build after 1.5.97, It seems there are Three Totally different AE versions at current to choose from and mods are not always compatible with all 3 different AE versions: There is AE 1.6.353, Then AE
1.6.640 (Which Breaks many AE Mods? Including "DAR"?), Then there is GOG AE 1.6.659.

I see that GOG AE is distinguished at least from the other AE's by modders but then most mods dont seem to be distinguishing if their "AE" mod is supported by 1.6.353 or 1.6.640 AE, so I have no way of understanding frankly going into this as a fresh noob modder what is the Skyrim version I need to be compatible with the most everything for February 2023?

Are all AE mods ever created compatible with AE 1.6.353,

Where only some AE mods are compatible with AE 1.6.640,

Where the fewest AE mods are compatible with AE 1.6.659,

Leaving us to want to pick 1.6.353 for maximum AE compatibility?

Or is everything right now going down on SE 1.5.97? Which this threads title seemed to tell me this huge list was about.

You can see how with four distinct versions of Skyrim currently being supported this is an extremely difficult decision to make as a first time modder and I am completely overwhelmed trying to find this answer anywhere else without asking.

You can thank Toddy for this one ;)

Focus on the mods you want to use, not what has the most compatibility. Pretty much everything has been ported or replaced at this point to be compatible with 1.5.97 or 1.6+. The exceptions are very few and these should only matter if you 100% want to use a mod that is only available for X version.

GOG is a different release though, so I wouldn't compare it to the other patch versions for Steam. Note that every version of Skyrim comes with its own executable version, which requires its own SKSE version and so on. Versions after AE aren't any different than what we've seen since 2016 or during 2011-2013 with the original Skyrim. So this keeping track of the executable version, getting the correct SKSE and SKSE plugins (mods with a dll) and avoiding automatic Steam updates isn't anything new. It seems it took people by surprise nonetheless.

Fairly sure Tasairis has a life outside maintaining this list. It's entitled posts like this that will put an end to this great resource. Learn to spell "here" & "though" too...

you seem to be overcomplicating this.

Go with 1.6.640 unless you have a very specific reason to stay on an earlier version. Ignore 1.6.659 unless you purchased the game on GOG, which has version 1.6.659 exclusive to them (only real differences AFAIK is the removal of the steamworks DRM, but as the .exe was recompiled, it will not "just work" unless the mod author is making use of Address Library, CommonLibSSE-NG, or similar, due to how memory addresses shift around every time it compiles).

1.6.353 is now an old version. The overlap of mods that support 1.6.353 but not 1.6.629+ is very limited, most mods that do not support 1.6.629+ also do not support 1.6.xxx at all (see: .NET script framework, and any mod that heavily relies on it that hasn't moved to something else).

Unless, again, you have a very specific reason to use 1.5.97, don't. You're only asking for trouble. (most mods not using CommonLibSSE-NG but have updated to 1.6.xxx likely have their 1.5.97 version either hidden, or available but unsupported.)

In general, if you download the wrong version of a mod that uses a SKSE dll, you will know as SKSE will tell you when you launch the game.

Does this work with regular edition of skyrim?

No, use the original version. Mine is an SE conversion of the Le mod, as stated at the top of the download page.

Hello, a Newb (representing the next generation and future of Skyrim Modding) here;

Despite the fact that the front page is bot managed (to my understanding), you might consider manually adding:

To the Sex Lab Defeat Section. Again, I am totally new to setting all of this up, and I have a cutting edge version of AE, which again, Ironically, this sub has shifted toward despite the "SE" in the title which is confusing to 1.5.97 purists as I initially set out to be, and well, the SL Defeat as was linked was entirely inadequate for the latest AE of skyrim, where as I think this 5.3.6 (as opposed to the 5.3.5 linked there) actually is up for this task. Perhaps in the spirit of helping all of us on our journey into the future of Skyrim, might someone be so kind to consider adding this post the front page? If only to spare the fortune of all who follow after us from the ghastly CTD that 5.3.5 SL Defeat creates the moment of launching the executable before any loading screen may ever glimpse our eyes.

Thanks!!

-Lurid

@Bane Master 's version of Defeat is missing from your list, as probably is @AndrewLRG 's addon

Possibly the related Follower Slavery Mod too

Best versions of Deteat out there at the moment

Remember pls that @Bane Master has provided the Defeat variants free gratis but may not have put them up as seperate mods to avoid even further confusion and maybe he hasn't the time to give to provide full modder's support

So we should be grateful for what we get  ?

Sexlab Widgets 206 is right here, and works in the latest AE too fyi, aside from Sexual Persuasion 1.1. Idk if thaz the latest version out. I can't seem to find Hexbolt's page for it? At least I think it was a Hexbolt mod. Maybe somebody knows where to find the exact LL link tho.

SLwidgets is from @crajjjj, but icon art is from others.

Spoiler

Yes, the site search is very basic character comparison, it kind of useless if the words are written a little different.

Use Google.com instead, using the following format:

site:www.loverslab.com widget

Replace widget with anything you want to search in Loverslab, it will get you better results.

Why is Elsie LaVache crossed out? I've gone through the post and don't see any warnings or complaints about SSE not working or having issues.

The mod's author explicitly marked the mod as not being compatible with SE.

Huge space issues.

Ow. Perhaps you mean to say "despite the fact that the front page is managed by a real live human being and, since there are way too many mods to try to list all of them at once thus there has to be some sort of decision-making process to choose which ones to present and which ones not to, which mods are shown is determined automatically according to their popularity as measured by their (LE) download counts..."?

But anyway, add Defeat to where? It's already there under Combat Sex...

It's taken a few months but my life is hopefully stable again: I have two jobs that aren't going to kill me, I don't have to worry about rent, and I even have some spare time during the week. I'm aiming for weekly updates again, and since I automated most of that work away, what I'm working through now is finding the LE mods whose mod pages don't say whether they are/aren't compatible with SE. Also trying to do a little bit of a deeper dive into them, checking support threads, seeing what files are in the download, that sort of thing.
