The Amazing World of Bikini Armour!

I'm trying to change the Falmer Gauntlets into actual hand armor rather than Forearm due to some conflicts with other mods. I'm able to change their slot in CK without issue, but they don't have a dismemberment branch in nifscope. Not changing anything in nifscope makes the armor appear and works out my conflict issues, but it makes my hands invisible.

How do I go about fixing this?

Not sure if it's relevant, but I'm also getting an error when I open the mesh in nifscope. As far as I can tell everything is working okay, but the only thing I know how to do in nifscope is change an item's slot.

Ok so first off, that error is something you can technically ignore. It means that the way the NIF's branches are structured is from the older version of NifSkope, which is also what Bodyslide generates if I've not mistaken. If the warning bothers you, simply re-save the mesh with no edits and it will go away.

Second, the reason your hands aren't visible is because your hands occupy the hand slot (seems obvious doesn't it?), and changing a forearm piece with no hand mesh to the "hand" slot is overwriting your hands. Basically, you need to attach a "hand" reference shape to the bracers' mesh and export that way, if you're going to reassign the slot to 33.

Following the attached screenshots, you load the project in Outfit Studio, File > Load Reference. Choose UNP Hands. Save the project. Make sure the "copy reference shape into output" checkbox is checked. Otherwise your hands will still be missing.

"But they don't have a dismemberment branch in nifscope"
In which case you don't need to worry about editing it via nifskope; once you attach the hands as I described above then all you need to do is make sure the slot change is done in CK/TES5edit (which you've already done).

@Niseka @Demonicon667

I've put a few of these items in my mod ^^, Figured it's ok because the permission said "Do as you like, but don't EVER monetize, upload to bethsoft.net or port to Xbone."

Credited you in Mod OP ofc and thank you.

Any problems with this people let me know ^^.

Add in some transparent mesh/texture for the glass armor...extra NNGGGHH!

Considering that Nise's stuff tends to use vanilla textures, I'd assume any glass-based replacer for clear/transparent glass would work just fine on the equipment like that?

Some (maybe all, not sure) transparent glass replacers were achieving this effect by modyfing armor meshes though.

Yeah all transparent armors need to have changes made to both the meshes and the textures.  Potentially this is something that can be done yourself post release using this guide and NifSkope.

I think that the transparency flag in the meshes doesn't do anything without transparency in the textures, so we could potentially ask Niese if he would just enable it by default, and then stuff like Realistic Transparent Glass should just work.

Edit:  I just remembered, the reason why transparency is off by default in meshes is because of a bug when swimming:  Meshes marked transparent disappear when viewed underwater, so your character appears naked.

Edit 2:  Apparently there is a tricky, but somewhat complex, way of solving the invisible underwater problem, per the RTG detailed description:

I applied a trick to the meshes to make transparent models still visible in water too (at least partially visible)
Do you want to know the trick? ... ok I'll tell you :)
In Nifskope i doubled the Nitrishape with the NiAlphaProperty so basicaly i created 2 identical Nitrishape that overlap themselves.
Now the first Nitrishape uses values: Flags 4845 and Threshold 0.
and the second Nitrishape uses values: Flags 4844 and Threshold 254 (or also 230-240)
In this way outside water you will see the soft trasparency, when you go inside water the first Nitrishape will disappear but you still will see the second one, so that model now will NOT look completely invisible anymore! :D (screenshots 06 18 20).

The Nexus version of the same mod didn't give me weird downwards-pointing nipples and crotch seams. Maybe it was just reinstalling it that fixed everything.

If armor is clipping into your skin (separate issue) then open Bodyslide, filter by groups in the top middle search box to contain only bikini armor, select the preset "CBBE curvy" or whichever body you actually use, select build morphs, click batch build. There are a lot of Bodyslide tutorials but there it is in one sentence. A few of the armor parts have "zaps" where you can further customize them by ticking boxes to hide parts of the armor, in case it wasn't skimpy enough. Doing this, clicking save for your preset, and then batch building will do it to all zappable armor parts at once.

The abs used the same slot as some Devious Devices, so autohide of devices should be turned off in MCM to avoid invisible abs.

While you're at it, get Remodeled Armors and the Minidress Collection and zap the panties. Now NPCs can experience breezy armor too, or you can mix and match.
