Skyrim 64bit Special Edition Announced

As most of us will get the new version for free, I think you can't be angry nor demand changes. It's not Bethesda making something new, it's rather them solving one of the problems the game had (memory) using the Fallout 4 engine and without changing a lot to the game except some cosmetics.

The point of my displeasure is that it seems to me that Bethesda focuses on what they want to focus on and ignores the desires of their customers.  I'm would like to know if I'm just full of it or is this actually the case.  I could be wrong, and if I am then I can let it go.  In a way, I hope I am wrong, because I do not care for being angry.  And then I could stop bitchin' to my girlfriend about it.

This should of been posted in the skyrim general discussion and not the LL community general discussion area which has nothing to do with skyrim.

This topic may have been inadequately named, but the post covers more than just Skyrim, thus I thought this forum would be more appropriate.

The kill cams in Skyrim, and the VATS system in F4 don't really bother me.  I don't go so far as to turn them off, but I personally don't use either of them and could care less if they were even there.

The one thing that does get me, as someone else said, is when the perks in F4 tie certain stuff like the criticals, I think, to VATS.

I just read the changes Bethesda is doing to Skyrim.  Looks like they may have made some good changes.  BUT, I found it interesting that their biggest efforts seemed to be on kill moves and death cams.  Even their trailer is showing nothing but their kill moves and death cams.  I just need to know, for my own sanity, does anyone care about that?  Everyone I have ever talked to disables those immersion breaking cut scenes.

In Fallout, I tried their VATS system and immediately disabled it.  In Fallout 4 that seems to be their claim to fame.  Several perks are designed to work with VATS.  I was really hoping to play Fallout 4 co-op with my girlfriend.  I read, the reason they couldn't make it co-op was that VATS wouldn't work.  Personally, I say "who cares"?

I want to know what you think.  Is Bethesda ignoring what their customers want?  Like maybe, fixing the miss-matched heads on NPCs?  Or am I in a minority in this regard?  Is my anger towards Bethesda unwarranted?

Having said all that, I must also admit that Skyrim is the best game released to date.

Hey, when you say "Skyrim 1.5 Update" are you referring to the upcoming Remastered edition? Because I did a quick Google search and Skyrim 1.5 refers to an update that was released 4 years ago lol   :P

Honestly, I wasn't a fan of VATS either when I tried Fallout 3, but I didn't really mind it in Fallout 4 because by that point I tried to give it a shot and it eventually grew on me. If I had it my way though, I would get rid of VATS and just give Fallout an actual decent FPS and TPS combat system. They may have to move away from Creation Engine to get that to work right but I think it's bloody time they do anyway lol.

Umm... Uhhh...  I may have gotten confused in my haste and anger.  *sigh*  Oh well.  The question is still pertinent I think.

Lol fair enough  :P

And I also think Skyrim is definitely one of the best games out there despite any of its shortcomings. (Almost hard to believe that game came out in 2011...) That said, I'm still optimistic about Elder Scrolls 6.  :)

I would like to be optimistic about Elder Scrolls 6, but it just doesn't seem like Bethesda, and other software companies, use much common sense when giving the gamers what they want.  They seem to be too focused on the money from console versions to care about us PC users.  We appear to be an afterthought, even though it is us that make their games epic.  Would anyone be talking about Skyrim still if the PC modders hadn't kept it alive?

In FO4 I spent hours trying to figure out why blueprints, added by mods, kept disappearing from the workbench.  I just happened on a post that said Bethesda had limited the amount you could have.  They also limited the number of citizens you could have.  Why the limits?  My towns didn't start lagging out until I had over 70 citizens, via mod.   These limits should be options dependent on your rig and your discretion.  Once I found out about the workbench limits and the fact that the Creation Kit seemed to be the last thing on Bethesda's mind, I stopped playing FO4 and haven't touched it since.

I hope they give more consideration to Elder Scrolls 6.  It just seems to me that instead of evolving, they are de-evolving.  Perhaps it is partly from trying new things, like new engines that sets them back.  "Great new engine.  Works great.  But we lost a lot of functionality."

.... and this seems to headed way off topic, so I will stop here.

Sorry bout that.  My girlfriend and I have determined that my superhero name would be "Tangent Man".

Well I'm gonna disable all automatic Steam features for Skyrim, as to my knowledge they're just gonna push the remastered version on everyone who owns Skyrim already, overwriting the old game. Whenever it finally hits us, if I'm right... I'll be waiting to hear if it messed anything up to see if I'll update or not.

So when they try to shove the update down my throat my mouth will be sealed shut.

As stated in the previous posts and confirmed by the developers, the original Skyrim won't receive any updates.

It will be an entirely separate game entry in Steam that you get access to if you own all Skyrim DLCs or buy it from scratch.

Though I'm wondering about something else.

People that already own Skyrim will obviously have both the old and new game entry.

But what about people that do NOT already own the OLD Skyrim and want to buy the OLD Skyrim even after Skyrim SE was released?

Will you still be able to purchase both the old and new version of Skyrim (let's say if you want to use a mod that only works on old)?

is the dlcs going to get free upgrades to SE? or just skyrim getting upgraded to SE?

Skyrim Special Edition free upgrade for PC users requires: Original Game plus all DLC's or Skyrim Legendary Edition (which is original game plus all DLC's).

Since SE's Free version requires you to own all DLC's I would take a wild guess and say SE will be for All DLC's (but that is just common sense saying if it requires it for the free version then it probably means it uses it).

That's a really good question. I assume so -- why would Bethesda turn down people's money? But people who buy legendary after SE is released will almost certainly NOT get a free copy of SE.

Wellllll, as far as console users go, there won't be many, no FO4 mods and no Skyrim Special Edition mods for PS4 users: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/09/months-after-xbox-one-support-were-still-waiting-for-fallout-4-mods-on-ps4/

Then for anyone who plays it on PS4... that's their problem for being Playstation fanboys (or fangirls). I love both systems, xb1 and ps4 (even though I don't personally own a PS4 yet)... so if they want mods and it exists on xbox one they should sell their PS4 version and get the xbox one version... or just get a decent PC and play it on PC.

If they don't already own an xbox one then that's a big rip into their wallet. Something tells me it's a LOT harder to add mod support for the PS4 version, and easier for Xbox One version... considering both PC and xbox one are microsoft products, and can even be directly connected to each other in some ways.

xbox one has a better controller anyway

  :s

But seriously the biggest thing behind why I post this message is because it sickens me when people pick Playstation or Xbox because "It's the better option" or "It's the master console race". Both have their own strengths and weaknesses, but both are good. I love integrating my xbox one with my TV and cable, controlling it with my voice, and so on. Truthfully, I guess that sickens me a little about Bethesda but I think I understand their reasoning.

From what I read today, old mods should mostly work fine but will have to be pulled through a new version of the creation kit first. That wouldn't be good... even if FNIS, SKSE, SL and other popular frameworks will be ported, many of us play with old mods that are not being maintained anymore. If there's no source, those won't get ported. Conversely some modders may decide to compile only for the remastered game. So you will have to choose :(

I'm not sure what to think of it. The Skyrim Special Edition doesn't look like anything new or special to me. Seems like nothing but a graphics update and bug fix ... even though with current mods my game already looks twice as good, and mods as well have also fixed many of the bugs.

Sure it's been asked a bit, but will The Special Edition affect modding in anyway? I just don't see the point to switch ships. But i'm not a modder so I can't really say if its good or not.

It's killer feature will be having access to all of the PC's memory, not just a tiny fraction of it. This should eliminate a LOT of the current crash issues, right there. Particularly if they decide to fix some of the glaring bugs in the engine while at it.

Fallout 4 is extremely stable, before mods started coming out I played over 150 hours with not one CTD at all. It'st not as solid now, some of the mods I use must be "dirty" as I now get the odd CTD at loading doors and sometimes when looting bodies.

So a clean Skyrim on the new engine should be just as solid. One hopes, the proof will be in the pudding come October. Which is not that far away now.

a lot of the current crash issues? what are you talking about?

don't have that, i can play hours without crash

if you have to check, here's my log from this evening, 3 hours without any problems

and i still have my 8 hours logs from last year i usually post when i heard about those "crashs you just have to live with"

my killer config have nothing to do with it, it's just an old gtx 570 1280 mo

if you ram ctd, it's because of stupid ini settings, stupid enb settings, or stupid "fix" that mess with things it shouldn't mess with

I will just assume you are trying to be funny and leave it at that.

I think people are being very optimistic about this.

Even if everything was say as great as it could be....It could be years before you saw your favorite stuff in Skyrim 32 bit ported over successfully.
