Even so, you are not picking up flowers and herbs but scrap, metal, tires, wooden objects, etc. so some zones will get empty quite fast lol

Btw I was watching the crafting vid again and I thought, if we can salvage everything from the environment, doesn't that mean that certain places will be completely naked after while? And they will increase through time because you will need more and more resources to expand your "town".

It seems like you can only salvage from areas designated as build-able areas.  I guess it's possible that you can also scavenge select items from other areas as well, similar to botany in Skyrim.

Actually I'm reasonably certain you can salvage from just about anywhere, salvage the tires off a car in the middle of downtown boston and use it to build nice condoms for your whorehose out in swamp-land. On the other hand only a few areas are designated as being able to be built on, as I pretty much expected, you can't build your settlement anywhere you want, but the E3 gameplay showed your settlement in a swamp, in a desert-like area, halfway into a river, and so on, so there will probably be variances on where you want to build your whorehouse (what, you're not building one? Really? Weirdo...).

I suppose there will be enough stuff lying around for you to build everything you want and if there isn't, you are most likely able to buy scrap metal, wood and tires from your local vendor. Though I have to admit I'm curious how many things you can actually pick up. Stripping a raider hideout clean sounds fun, but it would also look silly especially if enemies respawn after a while.

I'm sold on the combat, been trying to get Fallout TTW to run but for some reason cant seem to play without crashing.  The little bit of play that I have gotten in has just left a feeling of how dated the combat is even compared to Skyrim which is working just fine modded on my system right now.

Cant wait for it really, see in modded Fallout the transitions between the added sprint, grenade, and melee keys are really aweful.  I'm also seeing how bad DT really is, which unfortunately isn't something that can be easily fixed even if I get the newest TTW revision and figure out why the game crashes.  The animations compared to even vanilla Skyrim are showing severe age and clunkiness also, if I walk diagonally in Skyrim the animations blend and it looks right but in Fallout it just looks weird.

Its crazy how well Skyrim has stayed fun over the years even with Witcher 3 out I'm playing Skyrim just as much or thinking about playing more of it.

I think I've seen enough of Fallout 4 to say that the new animations, combat, and features are really solid and the game should give a good first person shooter fix if that's your type of game.

-------------------------------------------------

Something that I'm curious about is the visual fidelity of long distance objects.

Often I've tried to play with upping the ugrids value with mixed success and I'd like to see a higher range than what we are used to seeing in future games.

It would seem to me that with the hardware we have now it should be possible even with a console to have a range value of 7 especially if it was developed for a tad bit more range even to prevent some poping of objects and distant landscape right?

Skyrim does have mods that go a long way to fixing this issue without effecting actually increasing the ugrids.

I am not worried about supplies shortage but that if I play for a year on the same save, huge amount of areas will be turned into flat ground like in the first Delta Force games for example lol.

There is a mod for that.. (or likely will be.. lol)

From what I heard when I watched the demo was every time something was crafted you could hear a money sound (cost of crafting), and from the crafting menus different perks were shown for doing different things. It's going to be a while before were even able to do any major crafting/home building. not sure if or how much experience you earn from gathering items. it would seem just about everything you do is going to earn a percentage in exp. toward leveling and progressing perks. I'm sure there's enough material laying around to build all of the settlements that can be built because it isn't something that is mandatory that you have to do, building is optional. I imagine you can always go back and rebuild the home you came out of (where you meet Codsworth again). no idea if that is even possible though. plus all the shit you can blow off of other buildings (with a grenade/rocket/mini nuke) I imagine will be OMG they even have us Recycling in a bloody game now LOL don't throw your beer cans and bottled water bottles out, build a gun with em ;)

Keep in mind that Todd also stated that you can bulid many settlements.. this means there must be a crap ton of supplies for you to do so even if it means you have to work a bit to find them.

What will be the headache for players concerning the 'scrap/junk' is not knowing what is useful and what is not without the crafting table telling us so.

I pick up a toaster in game and look at it.  It is a toaster, and that's it.  If I have a toaster in my possession and I activate the crafting table NOW that same toaster has a pilot light and screws.  In other words, my character picks up a toaster in game and rattles it like a clueless cave man but he gets magical insight there are parts he can use when interfaced with a crafting station.  This makes even less sense considering the player is from the prewar era and knows by default what a fucking toaster does.

Jokes a side. I didn't realize when I seen the video that this will happen. I for some magical reason thought they stopped that crap and would at least let you see the items and what you can get from it if broken down when you pick them up. I don't really use the crafting station currently in FNV because I get tired of going to the table and finding out I am missing one item. Then having to leave to search high and low for it and then return. If someone knows what they are building.. wouldn't they know what they needed to build it before they went to the bench? Kind of like Kendo's comment that the player in FO4 is from prewar era and knows what a toaster does (and by extension pretty much should know what it is made of. ;))

What's the difference between salvaging an area and grabbing every intractable item in any previous ES/FO games?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too if they do allow you to salvage beyond the designated zones.  My only concern is continuity as you can seemingly strip the entire area in buildable zones but you probably can't tear down Boston and relocate it, but w/e, I can live with it :).

I'm finding there's a lot more to this Settlement building then I figured

Perfect for ocd players.

Salvaged objects could 'renew' themselves or even disappear due to weather or

geological activity. Just think of how things get buried by sandstorms, only to

reemerge at some point in the future. All you need is a metal detector and a shovel ;)

"Oh look, I just found a buried Corvega, toaster, tin can etc."

Or you go out, dismantle a bandit hideout just to have them attack you to get it all back, better hope you have defenses up by then LOL

"Protagonists Settlement stripped bare" News at 11.

WTF happened here Dogmeat, who took the legs to my Power Armor? and where's my tools? do you know what fetch means?     :P

Might have to train up the dogs Retrieve PERK :)

ha! I would be really happy if they added this "tower Defense" feature. You need to defend your settlement. Set the defensive structure layout like spiked walls and secret pitfalls. And you can also set traps like frag mines, secret mounted gun/flamethrowers/chainsaw in the wall trigerred by hidden floor switch, caged tamed deathclaws released at the enemy at certain places, etc. Make your own impenetrable fortress! Just like in that old Shinobido: way of the ninja game on ps2 :D

Who agrees with me that Fallout 4 should have taken place in Detroit, Michigan, and not Boston.

Here is Detroit in IRL, as you can see it doesn't look much different than the barren post-apocalyptic wastelands of Fallout.

There are 2 things that concern me about this game.

First apparently they have removed all sliders, the game is using something else now... so what about body customizations or loverslab mods that completely relied on them for Skyrim?

The other point is will we be seeing anything green? you know nature? or is everything a wasteland or radiated beyond belief? By the way radiation does not kill nature, it just makes it go out of control so after 200 years of a nuclear holocaust that place should have some freakish plant growth.

Posted

We've seen nothing in the underground areas as of yet and nothing has been said about them in any of the interviews I've seen, that like FO3 was "about" the only green we saw.

there is just too much we don't know yet but I would not doubt there is some form of organic growth, hell we are able to plant so I see no reason to think there isn't plant growth elsewhere in the wastes. you don't need sliders for sculpting and there is a "body" section under sculpting. what control over the body you will have wasn't shown. they can't be expected to show you everything otherwise there would be no hype and not everyone is going to like what they see if they showed everything which would end a lot of sells. but I think we've been over this a dozen times in these 65 pages.

Well from the screenshots it just seems everything is brown, white, black and orange. Kind of depressing especially after playing in Skyrim or world of the Witcher. But my first question was mod compatibility, what I am afraid with more complex character creation it would limit modders. This has happened with the Total War series with the new installments, anyway I hope that that skyrim assets can be used for FO4 mods.

And yes I know the creationkit for FO4 is coming out the following year so there will be a while before anything becomes moddable... in any major level anyway.

Its still a slider, you just don't see it as one. It can't be anything but numbers, its always a numbers, they just changed the look of the interface but behind the scene is still a standard XYZ sliders with numbers :)

Unless FO4 face generation is done by true sculpting, like in Blender, 3DMax or Daz/Poser.  If that's the case people who have trouble with sliders will be crippled with sculpting.  I know what I'm doing and I HATE it.  I had rather weight paint ny hand than sculpt a face in real time in a game.  Custom presets will be the way to go, that is if they can be added.

My only hope at this point is, that the character editor is actually based around on how it used to work pre-Skyrim. In Skyrim it always bugged me, that you could only change face-part presets (15 noses, 15 eyes, etc..) and had only very limited control over how the face is going to look. While the actual face models might have been more detailed, you could only get so much different results with this system.

It might have been more difficult to work with FaceGen previously, but at least you were able to make any character you want (Fallout GECKs had a very buggy sculpt mode too, btw). I'd rather not have to use mods that only allow me to have advanced functionality in-game, which makes it very clunky to get those characters in a mod, for instance.

Now I'm sure she would win in the Arena every time ^^^^    ziiiiiipp   your gonna let me win aren't you :)

One thing I am hoping for in Fallout 4 is a bloody easier way of getting out of the game without all the hoops you have to jump through like with Skyrim.

"Hit esc, select save then click on "save new game" it closes then hit esc again, select close game then click or hit enter. FUCK.

Why does it have to close after saving? in case you didn't mean it? I guess I shouldn't complain they could just as easily make the game with no option to quit or save and only doing a hard reset will give you your computer back. LOL.

I window mode mine, so I just Alt-F4.

To quit skyrim i use the console. Just type qqq in to it and hit enter. take like 2 seconds to exit skyrim doing it this way.
