Paid mods for skyrim.

Making new npc's is easy peasy, but I find a little off to make a new parody npc at this point, considering that this baby is rollin' high. At lest you come with a gang with full dialogue and all the toys. People keep giving Beth some more love, the numbers keeps coming and it needs to be know across the whole webz.

I really like what they said about paid mods (It's close to the bottom of the page). Gratitude vs compensation. I think it's a confusing argument.

Hard to find an answer but Bethesda getting 40% isn't it. I'm personally fine with Steam getting 35% they are hosting and advertizing the mods, that's the usually about what you'd pay for those services. Bethesda getting 40% is like comic book artists paying 40% to the company that makes the paper they draw on. That's just stupid.

Also this mod makes playing through Dawnguard adorable.

Interesting thing going on here. A logo to put on mod pages as a public promise that their mod will be Forever Free and that it is safe to build off of as a resource.

It's a good initiative. Modders with it on their pages will be less likely to make mods then put updates behind paywalls once they get hot file/ file of the month. A future problem that nobody wants to deal with.

it's funny so many people are saying they don't like nexus, yet they upload/download there...

Not really. The Nexus has a near monopoly on anything Skyrim-mod related, so honestly, what would you have people do yatol? What choice do they have?

is nexus the only skyrim mod site?

it have that "monopoly" because it's better than the others, that's all

and for the one above, don't tell modders what they can/can't do, you will only lose in the end

I think there will always be free modding to some extent, even if they try and force steam exclusivity in their future games.

The community will just be split between the mainstream(steam) and the underground mods which will comprise of pirated mods, adult mods, and mods that have copyrighted content from other franchises

Plus the asian modders, I'm not sure what they'll take on this will be

China has extensive censorship so many mods are dubiously legal there by default. If sites like Steam are going to be offering paid mods in countries like China at all they are going to cost even more to account for the cost of censorship. South Korea and Japan, like we here in the EU, have their own unique consumer protection laws where some rights also cannot be waived...so that opens up more potential liability issues.

So with a bit of luck the various mod scenes in Asia will be less affected by this.

Though it is obvious that Valve and Zenimax have more than likely only consulted with their North American lawyers and market researchers before embarking on this harebrained cash grabbing scheme. And the good old reliance on the reluctance of gamers to take any legal action. Though hopefully like the German group currently suing Valve for the implementation of their consumer right to resell their digital goods, this might work for a few years but eventually someone somewhere is going to take at least some action (and if Steam keeps up its current laissez faire attitude with regards to Q&A the people initiating such action will likely be justified in it because they bought a kiddy porn virus that blew up their computer marketed as a third party add-on for a popular game distributed by Steam). The end result of that could well kill modding as we know it for good and maybe only leave a new type of game development studio dedicated to producing quality, third party, expansion packs for pre-existing game franchises  at retail price.

If this abominable practice spreads to other games we will all become pirates and hackers again by default, because all mods such as the obligatory Star Trek and Star Wars mods for many Sci-fi games and things like the Game of Thrones and the many armor and clothing mods based on other popular works will be driven underground FAST. Of course, the specialty of this site, adult game modifications have and always will be dubiously legal at best  because of the uptight "moral guardians".

With the current way Steam regulates its content I might be better off just going to the casino for my video game entertainment in the future. More chance of hitting the proverbial jackpot that way than in a paid mod store full of sweatshop produced crap retextures.

If modding becomes a monetized market and enters the ugly corporate world, it will not mean the end of free modding, especially free adult modding but this site and others might not survive and we'll all be sourcing our adult content (and things like Tera Armor mods) from modding sites on the Darknet in a couple of years.

It doesn't mean it's the best modding site any more than Microsoft Windows would be the best PC operating system just because it's preinstalled on poeple's PCs when they buy them.

This prolly for most part is true but we also have gog.com and if they make that tool for modders for The Witcher 3 i hope many will flock over to that game and make  many mods because as it is now CDProject(GoodOldGames) will not go same way as as steam or bethesda.

I for one abandon all gaming if it's going where i think its going my wallet stay close i keep playing my 100+ DRM free games and say fuck you all, the whole gaming community who embrace PAYWALLS CASHSHOPS DLC'S and PAID MODS and all that bullshit.

Im already done with Bethesda i will if they stay like this like with EA and Ubisoft PERMA BAN them for life and wont buy anything they produce.

Bought already almost no games on steam now it completely stopped.

GoG.com is my last hope for FREEDOM in gaming.

Im not going to darknet BECAUSE we have paid mods now fuck that.

Steam,Bethesda,Nexus.... alll evil.

I don't think nexus is evil... They're just assholes.

because they delete some of you pics?

it's funny so many people are saying they don't like nexus, yet they upload/download there...

it would be even funnier if they took down their site, so many would be lost without it

now, let's kill some steam $$

-in skyrim crafting ui, a steel axe is in steel, a steel armor is in steel, a steel katana (mod) is in steel

-in skyui cafting ui, a steel axe is in weapon, a steel armor is in armor, a steel katana is in the last one on the right (forgot the name)

and in armor, you have fur armor, iron armor, steel armor, dragonbone armor... if you don't have a mod that rename those, good luck finding what you want to craft

-the biggest skyrim ui problem isn't solved, you click on something->yes/no, but there isn't a all button to craft 100 leather if you can craft leather

-in skyrim ui, if you click on something->yes/no, if you click you craft it, if you click again->yes/no

-in skyui ui, if you click on something->you have to move your mouse on yes/no, if you click again it does nothing, you have to put back the cursor on the thing you are crafting

-> crafting is worse with that thing, if you want to waste some $$, go take a shit and use those $$ for you know what

Nope its not that you ignorant moron. Consider all of the mod authors that were given shit for the most irrelevant reasons. Their strict policies and idiotic reasoning behind everything they criticize someone for is the reason no one likes them. And no shit we still download there, you wanna go ahead list a some fucking sites with the equivalent amount of mods? Thats what I thought... We only do it because mod sites are kind of limited, plus the mass majority of modders go there. I mean what can we say? It's an easy to use site, plenty of shit download.

Pretty much this, monopoly.

Nexus is for Skyrim mods what Curse is for WoW Addons. There's no alternative in that scope, size and quality - regarding page structure with endorsements, search engine, hotfiles etc.

Even if you tried to manually dig up mods on alternative sites, you'd end up missing most of them because many authors are hosting their stuff as "Nexus Exclusive". And in return the important mods that are not hosted in Nexus are probably 3-4 bookmarks in your browser (counting all Loverslab content as 1 ).

Microsoft/Windows is a bit of a different story - PC gaming is only possible here. No offense to anyone, but the handful of people trying to game on a Mac are usually just clueless Apple Fanboys who have not the least idea about computers. Note: i'm not trying to say the PC users would mostly have a clue about technical things ;)

And Linux gamers are probably... 0.001% of the userbase? Would be interesting to know the numbers here.

What does Sky UI 5.0 offers that should convince me to pay for it? I honestly only upgraded Sky UI whenever a new mod told me to.

a new craftingmenu.swf

well... that one is worse than skyrim ui

Why is everyone talking about stopping modding and not using the Nexus and what not?

You should be modding more!

Make more free mods.

Make better versions of paywall mods.

One guy making a good mod, doesn't stop 5 modders from putting their heads together to make something X5 better.

This is the best modding community on the internet.

We make mostly adult mods because no one else does, not because we can't make anything different.

Come on pull your shit together!

Right now people are hiding their files on Nexus because they don't want assets stolen and used in a paywall mod. I can understand their situation. It's kinda put a halt into many and the thing is I frankly don't think many modders feel like playing police so they rather hide their stuff and wait for this shit stoirm to pass.

Such collective greed on the end of users, modders, and Bethesda, all for different reasons, could make this turn out horribly. Hurting legitimate users, legitimate modders, and whatever parts of Bethesda that means well. Segregating so much.

Bethesda wanting to support the modder, is noble and with good intentions, but wanting too much of the pie can look extremely greedy from the consumer's(modder and user) point of view.

People should be pointing fingers at the greedy dependent ones, that can't seem to have enough and be satisfied. That goes for those that will eventually just pirate everything creating a potentially terrible cause and effect for all. And the ones that don't give a shit about anyone but their own fame, and now, fortune(pennies or quarters). There are these types of folks, against and in support of, the 'good intentions mixed with greed paywall' that's happening.

The most interesting thing about all this, is that it's just in place and not even required. The user AND modder can simply ignore what's in place here, by refusing to buy(and not use - don't pirate) what they don't want to pay for(or maybe can't pay for). And modders can keep making and releasing mods for free, ignoring it outright. But you know, it's probably not going to work out that way, because a large underlying concept in this community at large... has been greed.

People pointing fingers at Steam/Valve, is silly to me. Steam provides the framework and means for developers to succeed AND fuck up, alike. Bethesda basically made a massive misstep, by misunderstanding or underestimating this community's greed and willingness to tear itself apart.

edit: and remember. Greed is as much about what you take, as it is what you don't want to give.
