I probably should've gotten more context, but the fact remains Patreon's going a little nutty.

There's a few more posts under this one that's embedded and some informational replies, as someone who prides themselves in not spreading misinformation it's also fitting I post this here because it pisses me off that I went off that reddit thread alone. My bad. As I type this he's still adding to the thread and explaining things.

Regardless, we'll see what happens in the near future with Patreon making huge leaps in its already draconian policies suddenly.

Kotaku in Action isn't the most reliable source since they have a vested interest in riling people up. That being said, I didn't read 'they're taking control of your content and online activity' as a legal action but more of an informal statement. They don't use laws, they simply use their position as a distributor of money to get you to play along with their demands. It's the same thing all big tech companies do - sure, there's no one physically stopping you going against their wishes but there's also no one stopping them from simply deplatforming you. I think the freedom of speech rules need to be re-negotiated. They usually apply to the relationship between a state and its citizens but big tech pretty much owns the public space now while claiming they're still private businesses. Technically true but their reach is far beyond that.

To be fair, there were quite a few scandals involving psych wards iirc. It's not exclusive to those institutions, many things that are more or less isolated from the rest of the world are ripe for abuse. Boarding schools and churches are another example. I wouldn't be surprised if the doctor who 'diagnosed' and 'prescribed' did so because of some sort of sick fetish he had. There was no medical indication for the treatment whatsoever.

With the New Beautiful World of Sjw's, the major platform can apparently just axe someones entire career without any reason. Poof gone, just like that. They dont have to explain it, they dont have to justify it, they dont need to give a reason etc etc they just remove everything and leave you jobless whenever they desire so..

And ofcourse that lack of professionalism goes only one way - content creators have to abide by dozens of laws, weird unwritten rules, shady unspecified guidelines, mutually exclusive bullet points, while the platform has absolute zero obligation towards them.

Yeah because in theory they're private businesses and as such things like equal treatment and fairness don't apply to them, they can freely choose the people they want to conduct business with. Needless to say, Google, Amazon and Facebook have grown so large and influental that their power rivals that of a government but governments are slow to react to these changes. I think regulations for big tech would be in order. Either you're a publisher or a platform, you can't be both depending on what is more convenient at the moment.

But thats not true. Twitch was an employer of Dr Disrespect and that places certain expectations on them. 
You cant get fired just like that, employer has to state some reason for cancelling your contract, give you some grace period etc. Especially jarring given how Disrespect isnt some 10sub scrub account but someone who made shitload of money for Twitch during his years.. I bet that deer dude has something to do with it.
