It's about it becoming easier for nefarious actors to potentially get their grubby paws on your personal data. It's not true you have no issues with that.  A cynic ascribes self-serving motives to others. Your attitude does not seem like that of a cynic, despite your avatar label being "Cynic." I literally trust no one, including friends and family, entirely. So, I'm not overly worried about that either. I don't supply what I deem personal to individuals that I don't have a reasonable chance of physically being able to get ahold of. Although I've had nothing to do with it, historically nefarious actors, at least in my case, have had a tendency to have very unfortunate ends.  Yes, I know it's overkill, but my PCs and phones run through multiple VPN's, my providers and separate personal ones. My online footprint is phenomenally small. Anyone who actually managed to access my electronics would find anything I deem sensitive, which is anything not actually required to keep me online, is air-gapped and kept on a separate encrypted offline system. They're going to have to get physically possession of the drives and their various biometric encryption keys to have access to it. Companies that need financial access only have access to temporary accounts that only have that amount in them required at that time. --- The literal ONLY weak spot in the setup is the government already having a majority of the information anyway. But they are already well aware of my beliefs and that I'm an anti-social asshole with violent tendencies to individuals that sufficiently piss me off.  ...and the most common definition of a cynic is one who believes that human conduct is motivated wholly by self-interest rather than acting for honorable or unselfish reasons. Self-interest being the key word.

If (and this is no doubt a very big "if") you are required to submit a copy of your ID to some kind of age verification site in order to get mods from Nexusmods, or at some point Loverslabs, your data is there. Unless you submit false data or something.  You are talking about something entirely different. You also sound completely delusional.

That person was talking about VPNs in terms of their personal digital security, I believe, not in terms of getting around geo-gating. Although even if they weren't talking about VPNs in that context, that use is implied for anyone using a VPN, no doubt.

This one is as described above, the porn consumer.  No, it has nothing to do with Arsenal FC and its fanbase. Yes, the term may be misleading. But it is the truth of today's lingo.

belegost Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 I thought gooner was a fan of The Goonies. In which case it would be every single person in a certain age group in this part of the world. 2

Spoiler, it's not going to be to the benefit of the common man, because it never is. I think this all stemmed from the move away from forums, personally. Â Mods on forums were thought of as public property, soon shifted to being more personal over time, then once forums left, they were thought of as property, and finally, something that the service provider owned, while people moved their "property" to private areas where nobody else can use them in "bad ways". Or something along those lines. I suppose.

It has to do with Collections, which has to do with enticing people to pay for Premium service on Nexusmods. Â On a related note, if Nexusmods thought of a way that was as good or better than that to get people to pay for Premium they wouldn't have implemented that policy. And if they thought they'd overall make more money by making the entire site"paid only," then they'd do that.

Collections were also about making it easier to mod, which hopefully for them grows the community. It's the same reason why they made Vortex. Â As for the topic of the the thread, I kinda dig the way they're planning to do it but we'll see how it works in practice. They probably couldn't jettison nude mods without turning into Tumblr 2.0 because they're their biggest downloads, and splitting the "adult" section so it's not just nude/porn mods should hopefully make it harder for the anti porn crusaders to take them down. But again, we shall see. Â Â
