Nexusmods Changing Policies on Adult Content

Well, well, well.

I've just been asked to do age-verification on Nexus. I was at the 'new today' page. Wasn't even trying to download anything.

I didn't bother with the age-verification and chose to turn off adult content.

I have a couple of adult flagged mods over there.

So, if I don't verify, I can no more see my mods ?

If your account is over 10 years old, you dont have to verify

Sadly my account is only 8 years old - I set it up when I was a precocious 60 year old. 😀

So, How long until the government end up backpeddling or just not enforcing it then? Cause it's already been a month and It's been about as effective as a chocolate teapot for anybody who cares enough. Especially considering the direct competition to the current government said they'd repeal it back in august I have zero faith that it'll stay around for more than a year here. I don't want them to win considering how ineffective they are and I fuckin despise politics but I genuinely see no other outcome of this other than another landslide and the ban being revoked

Why are all you right-wing muppets always so poor at using your native language?

Assuming that the "it's" here refers to the Online Safety Act, what evidence do you have about how effective it has been?

If by "the direct competition to the current government" you mean Reform UK then you are delusional. Of the 650 MPs Reform has 4 and Labour has 399. Sinn Féin has more MPs than Reform.

I love posting at about 4 am out of disappointment from nexus in a tired panic and having some wanker immediately assume because I said their name, that I'm a right wing nut. Truly an internet moment

I don't truly believe that Reform would win realistically, That was more just desperation, I vote left personally but that's unimportant in this specific case, but I have also 0 faith that this law will stick around in the way it is right now, because it's obstructive and has only so far moved people who frequent to VPNs (Including MPs allegedly, according to politico which I cannot personally verify), Meaning we Can't measure how effective it is because while, yes, the official UK usage of adult websites has gone down, There's no way to know how many of that is because people have stopped or pretended to be yanks.

And the difference, as well as distaste of the current government by at least a portion of the UK, considering last year's election (being the biggest landslide in recent history because of a tory government that was so dog ass that it made even the centre right vote against them) I just am not convinced that if the current government keeps doing things like this on a larger scale, their younger (impressionable) voterbase listens to the louder group, I just worry, is all. It was worry, not support.

More elites class who control politicians who think they know better than us because they are intellectuals, thus smarter know better and think they need to tell us what to think and how to think according to them.

And you can call me a "tin foil conspiracy theorist". I wear it proudly, as this crap only proves us right.

Your welcome adults and everyday working slobs.

This sentence has no subject and does not make any sense.

Desperate? We are four years from an election.

Your faith is irrelevant to the issue. You may not be able to verify what Politico say but you could post a link to where they say it.

This was meant as "Hey I posted the original post at 4 am and got called an illiterate right winger, I should at least explain why that's not quite the case."

This is true, I won't argue with that.

Thought I had, shockingly enough I don't usually get into political debates in forums I go to for skyrim mods so I probably didn't end up embedding it.

Anyway it can be found Here (https://www.politico.eu/article/britain-mps-charge-vpns-expenses-minister-caution-tech-jonathan-reynolds-data/)

I'm going to stop posting about it now, it's not really helping anybody in discussing the nitty gritty on what I have to say. Have a good day now.

Took almost 2 month for someone to drop the right wing- or leftist-bomb here out of nowhere. I've expected much less time for it to happen, so thats a good thing I guess.

How is it out of nowhere? The guy was lauding Reform UK which is a far-right party and his written English is piss-poor.

Hi back again that was not what I was doing I was stating that they were the only party that has actively stated they'd undo it. I was not praising them.

Alright that's all from me

Hallo nochmal!

So what?

This party – or rather its frontman – has been spouting a torrent of lies for years – what with all the claims they made, aka PROMISED, in the Brexit election alone.

And these very same liars will then, as the UK government, repeal this law?

You don't even believe that yourself!

:relieved:

How does one report an entire thread for repeatedly violating this forum's rules? I'm not going to go thirty through the previous 13 pages and report every single post, that's just stupid.

Considering your sentiment in this thread and diehard whiteknighting of government's overreach - I was sure the number was at least 5 times lower. Now I know that lack of long-term vision transcends age. It's truly a shame that you will not get to live to see the consequences of your actions on this matter - because when the governments will crank it up to 11 say 2-3 decades later, you'll be long gone and it's the youth that will have to deal with the orwellian reality.

Now, I'm not in the UK and my NM account is older than 10 years so by all means I "couldn't care less"; but I do care - because again, I have the long-term vision. A vision that - governments from all over the globe are watching to see what happens and if they can get away with it. Here in the EU they already push for chat control and try to repeal GDPR. As someone fairly educated in InfoSec and someone working in the industry for decades I will never support it. And so I will never support any government trying to spy on its citizens, no matter the cause.

There's simply no secure enough locks (digital or real) to trust with personal data that is required to "age verify". There's no justification to use such heavy-handed measures that disproportionately affect so many people - a vast majority, in fact - simply to unsuccessfully attempt to do what parents should be doing in the first place. Most of all, erosion of privacy can never end well. If governments can access the data - then they will, it's not even a matter of debate. The whole NSA and Snowden debacle has shown that they are willing to not just bend - but break laws to do it. And not just any laws, but the very Constitution itself. Imagine what they will do if they're given legal mandate for it.

I am not 'white knighting' government overreach - I challenging the mis- and disinformation put out by ill-informed people.

Nice ad hom attack there.

The OSA applies only to the UK, it does not affect anywhere else so all this global conspiracy alarmism is nonsense. Buying alcohol, getting a driving licence, owning a credit card, etc. all have a minimum age requirement. Lots of organisations keep information about you. The keepers of that information are subject to data security laws. Why is providing age-verification to the OSA different/worse/the end of the world?

What credible alternative do you or the other detractors have?

Why not just no longer allow people in the U.K. and E.U. to visit the site instead of forcing this shit on people? It's not like people in the U.K. and E.U. wont have access to a VPN...

I think "not visiting" is within the scope of choices users can make. Given that, what point are you trying to make? Are you implying that gov'ts are using access to porn as some kind of bait to get people to offer up info about themselves?

Nexus doesn't have to comply with U.K. and E.U. laws if they just block the U.K. and E.U. They are only complying because they still want people in the U.K. and E.U. to have access to their site without using a VPN.

This is incorrect, BlackTree are a UK company. They absolutely have to follow UK law.
