DarkUncle64 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I just wanted to ask if anyone already has installed the latest update under Win 7 x64? My MO (v1.3.8) is running so smoothly and good that I don't want to update without a few reports how the new MO does. Another question would be (slightly OT) why people are using Win10 so early? Does it have any killer features that would make migrating from an older OS like Win7 necessary? New Windows versions are a bit like Bethesda games at point of release. Hilariously flawed and nerve-wrecking. But after a year or so, there are enough patches to make them work, and the best pieces of software and bugfixes come from 3rd party coders - often for free. As a person who has played unpatched Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Skyrim as well as used Win7, 8, 8.1, and 10 at launch, I find the assertion that Windows is anywhere close to being as buggy as a Bethesda game entirely baseless. The last truly bad Windows OS was ME. Vista got a bad rap not because there was anything wrong with the OS, but because increased system requirements made upgrading a hassle and UAC is annoying. Windows 8 got a bad rap because people lost their precious start menu and were blind to everything else. Win8.1 to Win10 is mostly cosmetic. Just like Win7 was more like Vista 2, Win10 is basically Win8.1 with a start menu option. There's definitely changes under the hood, but it mostly to be minor. Most of the new features are meh but I am a very big fan of two minor aggravations that are fixed. Setting up a window to fill half the screen now allows you to select a second window to fill the other half (which is great on a multiple monitor setup) and the image thumbnail cache now actually persists (in Win8.1 it would delete itself every time the computer rebooted). Would it be possible for someone to point me in the direction of a good tutorial for using the creation kit in conjunction with MO (like an idiots guide to mod creation using MO)? I was attempting my first real use by following CPU's tutorial for creating a follower but mine ended up with a brown face (even with numerous uses of ctrl f4) and when I attempted Nifskope I do not see any textures nor do I know where to look for them in MO (or once renaming the copies...where to put those files)...and the list goes on. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I truly love MO it just tends to confuse me from time to time.. .The textures and meshes exported by the CK go into your overwrite folder. They have the proper folder structure. Just move them into a mod folder like everything else. Nifskope rarely ever shows textures because it can't look in BSAs and texture paths in meshes are relative to Skyrim and not the mesh or Nifskope, so even if they're loose it's looking in the wrong spot. So following the tutorial to create follower, I start by creating the actor... ck places the .esp into the overwrite folder from which I created a new mod from, next import face (using spf "name" in ingame console) easy no problem then use ctrl f4 to export the proper files for the face and those were also in the overwrite folder so I place them into the same mod...but..follower still has brown face. So..undaunted (ok a little daunted) I tried for the hair, duplicate and rename in ck, open/copy/and edit with nifskope..tutorial says place them in data folder under meshes and also in textures...(I am thinking I need them in the mod folder I created). Then return to ck to edit file path for hair but I get "invalid" file path. So now I am here, with more questions then I would want to heap on other members and thought maybe there was a tutorial or something to mark the differences when using MO.
zippy57 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 The thing is that with the exception of the files being saved in MO's overwrite folder instead of Skyrim's data folder, there really aren't any differences when using the CK in MO versus using it outside of MO. Open the mod's information panel and look under the conflicts tab. Are there any conflicts? Is the proper number of files appearing as non-conflicted? Double-check that the mod and plugin are both actually active. You could also zip up your mod folder and attach it here, and I could take a look at it.
DarkUncle64 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I double checked that mod is active (also I can see the actor in game)and no conflicts are listed (also no +/- sign in left window). I am uploading the file but have placed another file inside with the files I created for the hair.. my thought is the .tri and .nif file goes to meshes and the .dds and _n.dds go into textures though I could be completely wrong on that. I am uploading the zip file and a screen shot of what I see in game ( it is the same thing I see in the creation kit fyi). I truly appreciate the help I would love to learn how to create mods and knew it would not be easy. I threw a snap shot of a warning that came up wondering if that might be part of the issue. zippy57 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I am uploading the zip file and a screen shot of what I see in game ( it is the same thing I see in the creation kit fyi).I'm honestly not sure what's happening there, but it doesn't have anything to do with MO. Your best bet is to take this information and put it in the Skyrim Tech Support section where hopefully someone who does know what is going wrong can help you out.

I think I might have a line on what the black face is, I am still curious about where the files go for like the hair textures, and eventually custom body and skin. I will keep looking for "how to with MO" or if/when I get this down maybe I will write it LOL.
zippy57 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Like I said, there's no reason to look for "how to with MO" because there's no difference with MO. Just look for a "how to".
DoctaSax Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Not sure what happened here, but I was adding some weapon stuff to my TTW install following Anatriax's guide when all of a sudden my mod order seems a little out of sorts because everything is grouped by category now: Not sure how to undo that. Thoughts? Nevermind, somehow it was filtered on category (drop-down under the mod order pane for anybody who ever experiences the same.)
bjornk Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Not sure what happened here, but I was adding some weapon stuff to my TTW install following Anatriax's guide when all of a sudden my mod order seems a little out of sorts because everything is grouped by category now: ScreenHunter_54 Sep. 04 17.57.jpg Not sure how to undo that. Thoughts? I'm not using the latest version of MO but there's a drop down menu to the left of the name filter below the left pane, you may have accidentally chosen "categories" instead of "no groups". Edit: You might have turned your mouse wheel while the pointer was on top of that drop down menu.
DoctaSax Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I'm fairly certain I didn't touch it, but it's definitely how it got fixed.
M.BISON Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 i havent played skyrim in a long time, this question may sound stupid........ does it matter if i install MO on another drive? currently skyrim is on ssd and MO is on a HDD
bjornk Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 i havent played skyrim in a long time, this question may sound stupid........ does it matter if i install MO on another drive? currently skyrim is on ssd and MO is on a HDD Shouldn't matter, aside from the performance difference between the SSD and the HDD and a bit of an inconvenience due to two different drives. I'd still advice against keeping your mod files on an HDD when you have an SSD, unless you ran out space on the SSD. You can (and should) keep your mod downloads on the HDD though.

bjornk Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 question can/do i just move the MO folder to my ssd common>skyrim? or should i reinstall MO? or do i use the advanced section in MO under settings>general>advanced (it says; download directory, mod directory and cache directory) You don't have to move it to somewhere in the Steam folder. My directory structure is like this... C:\Games\SkyrimMO (this is where MO is located) C:\Games\SkyrimMO\mods (all mod files) C:\Games\SkyrimMO\profiles (all profiles and saves) D:\Downloads\Skyrim\Nexus\ (Downloads from Nexus, for MO downloads) D:\Downloads\Skyrim\LL\ (Downloads from LL, for manual/browser downloads) You may move the entire MO including mods, but you may have to manually edit config files. A better option would be re-installing (or extracting) MO first, and making sure everything is okay, then moving your mods into the "mods" folder. Yes, you should use the advanced settings to set directories etc.
RitualClarity Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 bjork is correct. MO should be at least on as fast if not faster drive if placed in a different drive Moving is simple as copy and past however you will have to go into the settings for the folders and MO itself and change locations. Yes. reinstalling MO onto another drive will take care of almost all those settings and then just move your mods folder, profile (if desired), and downloads folder and if you have any custom categories there is a file to move as well (don't remember which one that is as i don't have any currently). this is my preferred way to move MO folder as I always end up forgetting something. This way is simpler and pretty much covers everything very well. added note. Might have to reset Sexlab as it might not like being moved not sure but I had some problems with this. Ended up following the instructions to reset/repair/clean install / update Sexlab and all was good afterwards. Might have been something on my side though. Not sure.
M.BISON Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 i reinstalled MO, it wasnt showing my installed mods for some reason maybe i did something wrong? anyway installed MO onto my ssd changed the settings and it looks like this: (F=HDD & E=SSD) download directory - F:/Program Files/Mod Organizer mod directory - E:/Program Files/Mod Organizer/mods cache directory - F:/Program Files/Mod Organizer is this the correct setup? after i changed the directories, i was expecting to find some files named "downloads" & "webcache" in my F:/program files but i did not instead i found "data8" & "prepared" is that right or did i forget something? (i havent installed any mods yet) thanks
zippy57 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 If you want MO to store your downloads in a folder called "downloads" then you need to tell it to store your downloads in a folder called "downloads".
bjornk Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 i reinstalled MO, it wasnt showing my installed mods for some reason maybe i did something wrong? anyway installed MO onto my ssd changed the settings and it looks like this: (F=HDD & E=SSD) download directory - F:/Program Files/Mod Organizer mod directory - E:/Program Files/Mod Organizer/mods cache directory - F:/Program Files/Mod Organizer is this the correct setup? No. You should avoid using Program Files & Program Files (x86) folders. I already gave you my directory structure above, so use it as a reference. If the directory does not exist then create it yourself and point to it from inside MO. After you've installed MO: - Launch it and create a profile. - Exit MO. - Move your old profile folder(s) into the new profile folder(s). - Move your mods and downloads into the new folders (including meta.ini and *.meta files) then launch MO. after i changed the directories, i was expecting to find some files named "downloads" & "webcache" in my F:/program files but i did not instead i found "data8" & "prepared" is that right or did i forget something? (i havent installed any mods yet) I'm not 100% sure about that, but you may have to enter your Nexus account information and then visit the site once, (maybe download a mod as well) using MO in order to get those directories, but as I've said, you can create them yourself. data7/data8 and prepared folders should be inside the webcache folder. thanks

M.BISON Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 i just downloaded skyui and i checked that folder i was talking about in my [F] hdd the one that contains data8 and prepared..... skyui download was in that folder! but not in the downloads folder lol, i think its because i didnt create the download folder but its set up how it should be right?the download folder were MO is installed is empty though so thats good! also ill do what you said about the profiles, when i create a profile(s) just need to install some graphics/ui mods on the default profile, so i can use them on all profiles thank you for the help and being patient with me
bjornk Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 skyui download was in that folder! but not in the downloads folder lol, i think its because i didnt create the download folder but its set up how it should be right? the download folder were MO is installed is empty though so thats good! Webcache folder is only used for downloads temporarily. You might find some files there that have the same files sizes with the files you've downloaded, but they often have the *.d extension and you can safely delete them if the download is finished. The actual mod installation package (often a ZIP, RAR or 7z file) should be in the folder that is configured as the "downloads" folder for MO. If you don't see the SkyUI (.7z?) file there, then search for it in all of your drives. also ill do what you said about the profiles, when i create a profile(s) just need to install some graphics/ui mods on the default profile, so i can use them on all profiles I don't recommend using the "default" profile for anything other than the vanilla game. Create a copy of it and use the copy instead.
AwfulArchdemon Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 Message of the Day Updated to 1.3.11 - Small bugfix release. Primarily this addresses the issue that new executables couldn't be added. Updated to 1.3.10 - Many bugfixes, see the changelog The major changes are: * better compatibility with archives types * shortcuts created from MO can now use the application icon * MO now detects if session cookies are invalid and properly logs into Nexus again Again thanks to thosrtanner for his many contributions. Please note that 1.3.x only support Windows 7 and newer (including Windows 10) so you will have to stick with 1.2.18 if you're using XP. 1.3.10 may work on Vista but no promises. Please try out and let me know if it works. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Late again Haven't migrated to the new version yet. Will soon. Haven't really been playing Skyrim. Been heavily addicted to Rocket League.

IN MO there is a configuration panel that you have to activate before using it. I assume you have accessed it before. There you can navigate to a folder that you want (in this case downloads) and select ti for your downloads folder. There is options for profile and Webcache as well. Each one of those options can be changed. A simple check on STEPs site or web search can give more detail on this (pictures etc) as I can't because I don't have MO setup currently on my machine.
M.BISON Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 i have MO setup correctly now! thanks for the help everyone
TheTeaWizard Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Ok so I'm using the mods fitness body and body options which make use of Textureblend.exe. I've installed the mods and add them as executables, run them with the options I want, the files appearing in the overwrite section at the bottom of the mod section. yet there is no change in game.... if I directly add the modified files into the files I'm using for female bodies, only the change is visible and nothing else, e.g. most of the body is grey. Does anyone know what the issue is? I've googled the problem many times and no one seems to have the same issue. Any help is appreciated.
