Unfair thread locking

I feel, that thread-locking in general is the worst available choice.

Considering the percentage of moderators to users, and the moderators' limited amount of available time, I suspect that no matter the problem, the tendency is to do both the logical thing, and the thing that humans in general tend to gravitate toward - that being the easiest available option, whatever that option happens to be.

While I understand the problem with the solution implemented, I also understand several probable reasons why this particular solution was implemented.  None of them have to do with the specific individuals involved, no matter what their reputation is, and all of them have to do with practicality.  Same as most other places in the world where problems arise.  It's a whole lot quicker and easier to not dig to the root of the problem.  Time is of the essence.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure no moderators are getting paid to do what they do, so the only major incentive they have to do it at all is because they enjoy what they do / wish to "do their part" in keeping the site "clean".  From what I've heard about being a moderator elsewhere, it's not an easy, or thanked, job, and personally, I can't imagine why anyone would want to do it, much less for free.

Be careful what you say. I said exactly that less than 10 years ago. Maybe it's an age thing?

I don't mean to pick on you but yours is the post that deals the most directly with my current point.

LL is NOT a "free speech" zone. Hell, colleges don't have free speech zones anymore. High Courts and government entities happily places limits on speech. Please people, get that concept out of your head (here at least). This is Ashal's site. We are all here because she allows us to be here. We have no inherent, inalienable right to post whatever we feel like on LL. If you want to post here please follow the Rules. You can find these easily on the bottom left of every page (click on "View Community Rules" - it's in blue because it's a link) or, if you want to hit the top of the page, click "Browse" and choose "Guidelines" from the dropdown menu.

Ok now i know thank you for pointing out i do not have free speech here, i always thought i had as it is a god given human right. i will not say any more as i may get myself banned, suffice to say i will leave my guns outside as i walk in to the bar cept for the derringer in my pocket lol.......to the original poster i sympathise with you greatly

I just checked German law about Trolls and this one is fitting:

Interim injunction

In the event of repeated harassment or even threats or assaults, it is possible to apply for a temporary injunction under the Troll Protection Act at the competent Forum court. This order prohibits the respondent, i.e. the Troll, from approaching or staying within a certain radius of the victim's profile, blog or other possible places where the victim is writing.

In addition, contact by private message, public message, comment quote, the victims's topic, through third parties, etc. may be prohibited. Violations of such an order may be punished by forceing a supporter status or temporary ban. If the troll and victim share a forum together, the troll can be expelled from the forum.

The troll court is generally responsible for orders under the Protection Against Trolling Act, even if one is not and was not in any virtual relationship with the troll.
The temporary order is also known under the terms temporary injunction, no-contact order, no-proximity order, restraining order (now we're talking) and the like.

That means Eva needs to love her troll first tho ?

You do have free speech here, some speech comes with consequences, just like in every single scenario in RL.  Unless you have been gagged, or worse, you always have free speech.

The problem the moderators have is while they dont want to restrict, almost, anything but the point of the site is so people will come here.  Having users be outright assholes(sorry about NMM) and or just saying fucked up shit will make this a place people dont want to be at. Fortunately there are tons of forums all over the internet to type about things we shouldnt type about here, not to mention we can say what we want in PM. Should be good enough, right?

I dont know which thread got locked down or why. If it was negative bullshit that got thread locked, then I hope thread is re-open, Negative BS shouldnt get the W on that.  Until I know different, I trust the moderators are doing the right thing.

I think OP had serveral topics who got closed or at least where involved in several. Everytime a few idiots trolled there, didn't really followed the whole dialogue but there is this one idiot who constantly posts stupid bullshit in random threads. ? I aggree with most of what you wrote here, it's just sad that everytime a thread has a major discussion going on which is actually interesting, some assholes come and not only disturb it but force the Mod´s hand to close it. Just bann their ass for a few day and see if they change their behavior ? i'm not nice all the time myself but if i force a thread to close because of my shit i should get some kind of punishment for it.. End of the day, most of us are just here to write some funny stuff, post our perverted stuff or get some perv stuff to use?

This is not logically true. Free speech is inconsequential. If there are consequences, then it is not free speech, as you will have to reign in your thoughts to avoid these consequences.

You can have selective free speech, though, where some subjects are free to talk about, and some are not.

free speech

Like anything that's labeled "free" - nothing is free (without consequences) and there's always a catch - free speech is imaginary thing to promote progress. You can not have "free speech" even in your home... except if you live alone... Everything comes with price and everything is binary (0 and 1), nobody can do anything about that.

It is entirely logical. You can be free to state whatever you like but not be free from any consequences which stem from the stating. Every action you take has consequences.

Ah yes. And who, pray tell, decides what is permissible and what is not? In your scenario even the subjects which are 'free' are not - they are contingent upon whoever gives the permission giving the permission and continuing to give it.

While I find this conversation fascinating and even on topic do be forewarned that you are getting into rough terrain here. It is most definitely true, as I explicitly stated above, that this is Ashal's site. She determines what is, and what is not, acceptable speech here on LL. As @Heroine HoneyCrotch so deftly pointed out:

Here's a funny free speech story for you.  I lived on a 3rd story apartment, 3rd floor and had water leak. I was frantic. I called management and told them I had leak, frantically. I said something close to "there is fucking water everywhere"  Lady on phone tells me she cant help me if I am going to be using foul language.

I responded with "Hang the fucking phone up then".........after a quick pause i repeated "there is water everywhere up here"  She gave in, and told me someone would be there soon.   There was nothing wrong with me dropping the f bomb there, screw that cunt.

While you have the right to say whatever you want you have no control over how others will handle it. Sometimes in RL saying shit you shouldnt say will lead bad things, got mind your tongue.

My thread was locked because of few imbeciles whose purpose was to make it locked by posting insults and negativism while, in the same time those morons posting sick mods that has nothing to do with common sense, but mental disturbance. Locking my thread instead of disciplining those creature isn't fair. I am taking a long break from LL and not sure if I am coming back.

Correct. But also it has to respect the laws.

For example it is not possible to speak (encouraging) terrorism.

Ashal posted this on October 18 on the Thread that was keeping up with site changes:

"I don't think it's wise of me to share this, as it's honestly none of your damn business and I'd rather keep it private... But fuck it. I don't care.

"Since the subject of women on the site is currently being talked about. I will confess that I am, in fact, a trans woman. It's something I've known about myself since I was a teenager, but have only recently started being open about. I've been in the process of transitioning for 8 months or so now."

I really am not paying attention to this site any more its obviouse people have forgotten what free speech means due to socialistic concerns shit say what you think at least its the truth instead of hiding behind a lable step out be dfifferent from the norm if someone calls me an asshole for doing something stupid then i will take the concequences if i call someone an asshole then they take the concequences its called life and we do it more or less every time we interact with someone hey i call myself an asshole sometimes but am i gonna slap a sticker over my mouth and stop my toungue waggaling no i deal with it, people forgot how to socialise due to social media lables and what not FREEDOM is a word that is earned by your right as a human being and it means you can do and say what the hell you want respecting universal law (treat others as you would treat yourself) a lot of people in this dumb 3d envoirment of ours have forgotten how to be nice, thats why we have trolls maybe just maybe if we started to treat them as other human beings maybe they would learn to be nice again instead of following protocol and slapping a big dont talk sticker over them. dang it i said more than i meant to but sod it posted.

I don't see how free speech even enters into it. The complaint was about the fairness of closing threads over the actions of only a few in them. We've talked about it since in private.
