maybenexttime Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Also nexus gets hit by a lot of Ddosing so I'm you can blame on that for your slower download speeds. I ran into "the user has not uploaded any files" issue last week quite often
psammeticus Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I'm just waiting for their next excuse to be solar flares.
Guest Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Their servers aren't that bad. They just have a lot of traffic at times and the download speeds are sufficient for mods. Using NMM seems faster than downloading manually. The only problem I've had is the Bad Gateway error that appears now and then.
PsychoMachina Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I'm just waiting for their next excuse to be solar flares. If that does happen, I wouldn't be suprised if the general community goes into an uproar and express their hatred for solar flares with the occasional responses recommending hiring mercenaries/assassins to eliminate the galactic menance.
Ark of Truth Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 If the server can't keep up due to traffic = Server is bad........ Of course its faster as they are trying to make you use the POS software which spies on you...
RitualClarity Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I don't really care about the download speeds on the Nexus so long as it is stable and effective. That is don't screw up the downloads for me. If I can confidently download a mod and use it without finding out it is screwed up than I am happy. It is a fee service after all. I rarely have any issues with connections or being able to access any pages there. The pictures are dam slow though but .. hey I am not paying anything for it so . I don't really concern myself with that. The only thing that I can complain about at their site is the community. It is a closed knit community. You have to be part of the inside in order to be treated with respect and get decent responses from DarkOne or other moderators. Those random newbies are left out in the cold. That is the stark difference with LL. Everybody gets treated fairly and reasonably regardless if you are a Moderator, or Contributor or even a common user. I have been there for many, many, many, many, many, many years. In the past it was a very nice community with responsive members and contributors that seemed to care and was wiling to give some good guidance. Over time the membership changed and became what it is today.
Guest carywinton Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Scott, The Nexus, recently posted an article speaking about their growth pains and problems with their server farm. It is hard for me to understand how with only 5 servers in their cluster now, they are having problems keeping them in sink. I read this article and thought to myself, what kind of IT Engineers does he have that cannot handle that small of a cluster farm? I once ran for the KETS project the largest Microsoft Exchange Network in the world, at the time it was over 300,000 users, and we had far less clustering issues way back then. I am sure he an his team will eventually get this sorted out, but that's what is going on over there. http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/news/10462//?

LordJerle Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Been updating mods went fine until a few minutes ago Although iam using all my internet I use 4G net... That's about as fast as I get as far as downloads when my roommate's up and about or during peak cell use time.
RitualClarity Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Been updating mods went fine until a few minutes ago Although iam using all my internet Seems to be working just fine for me currently. Might have been a glitch.

Ok now that is hysterical, reminds me of my local electrical co-op giving me excuses like "A cow passed gas next to a pole and knocked out your power."
PsychoMachina Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I think they're content with giving the "we're being bombarded with the usual DDOS attack" answer, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to mix it up with something new now and then.
myuhinny Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 We just need to send them a years supply of bubble gum and duct tape that should help them keep their servers together and running smoothly. Last weekend for most of the weekend oblivion downloads for most files were down then it spread to fallnv and I can't remember how many more fell and I stopped checking the site to see if it was working. When it was finally back up and running I could no longer remember why the hell I was there in the first place. The page I had opened that had a list of mods I was going to download was long closed and I could not remember which thread I saw them in. Maybe one day I will come across it again probably when I no longer need them anymore.
deathparade Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 i think sending them some racks and stuff so they can order cables etc i think their cats keep pulling the cables
junkacc Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Looks like many of you have already mentioned how dumb Nexus search is. LOL I was just thinking how stupid the search function is and then realized it's probably why Nexus is so slow. FFS you've gotta do an empty search just to get to the advanced search. Imagine the load on the SQL server doing useless searches before dying in a flaming heap as it so often does. With such design and forthought, I'm sure NMM works great.
PsychoMachina Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 i think sending them some racks and stuff so they can order cables etc i think their cats keep TVM was giving himself a Brazilian and accidently pulling kicked out the cables Fixed. Hope you don't mind.
deathparade Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Isn't community input what makes a community good...Except in like the case of Nexus
Shermie Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 nahh its when the Virgin Dante banns someone he explodes his jizz aka Randy Marsh style.....really clogs up their system
cornbreadtm Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 nahh its when the Virgin Dante banns someone he explodes his jizz aka Randy Marsh style.....really clogs up their system Problem solved; we can close this thread

ratrace Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Perhaps their banning behaviour serves the purpose of reducing the amount of users to make the servers work again... as for now, this strategy didn't work out. That was a bit mean, I admit, and I do not share the hate some here have for the Nexus, but I'm also getting more and more annoyed because of the constant sluggishness and complete downtimes. The weekends are an almost 100% bet that there will be site probs, and I can't shake the feeling that the whole crap started when Dawnguard came out. And it's with utmost concern that I see the Nexus having become some kind of monopolist site for mod users. People saying: "Don't like it? Go somewhere else!" are missing out that the vast amount of modders - including myself - are using the Nexus because it is the biggest site. When I started making my mods for Skyrim, the Nexus was the only site that came to my mind from ol' Oblivion days. So I hosted them there. Telling people to go to another site is like telling people not to use Windows in case they don't like it. Yes, I know about the different LInux distributions, MacOS, FreeBSD etc., but alas there are some things that only work with Windows. Not because it's good. Because it's the most used OS and has set standards. These standards may not be good, but they are standards. That's a problem. And with the Nexus it's the same (though I don't want to compare the Nexus with M$ - the latter have become dangerous). I don't know a single site that can even remotely compare to the Nexus in size and structure. That worries me.
...0... Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 At the moment NEXUS is again terible, but i have fresh install and im affraid i need to go there for some mods. Wish there was more choices to choose from with huge data base on mods then nexus alone. I dont like NMM that much eather.
