lordofthedread Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Apparently they're taking measures to control a DDoS attack, and that's why you may be getting a 502 Bad Gateway error, or a 403 Forbidden. Make of that what you will. Well, yeah, someone's really bombing them that hard. Also, owing to the server fuckups, some authors are now uploading their stuff elsewhere. If there were a place with as many mods as the Nexus I'd love a link....

But in most cases they're uploading to Steam, despite the obvious disadvantages.
deathparade Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Ow god yea i've been trying to download some mods from Nexus as my game kept crashing so i just deleted the whole Data folderThus is probably gonna take a while...
Ravana Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I wish I understood their business model, and in what world piss-poor administration and putting server quantity over quality sounds like a good idea. I'm not gonna pretend to know what goes on over there, but seriously, how hard is it to focus on improving what exists rather than adding more to your plate? Maybe taking a couple more minutes to review and cross reference your trouble tickets? I'm not endorsing DDoS attacks but maybe the guy had the right idea - Getting treated like shit when you're not in the wrong is certainly a peeve. It just blows my mind how it got this far x.x
quin666 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Let me check my Care-o-meter for Nexus since old Oblivion days.. Ok, still on "I still don't give fuck!" Long downloading? Whatever, I download korean mmorpgs. Nexus walk in park.
Trykz Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 DDoS attack my ass. More like a piss poor excuse for shitty server equipment, and an utter disregard for the fools who donate to their shittyness. Seriously? DDoS attacks are the best excuse they could come up with? I know forum server admins who sort out DDoS attacks within minutes. These "attacks" on Nexus have been going on for months, and it's happening on EVERY Nexus site. "there's no point in getting upset over it" I'm sure those who pay for your shitness are very comforted by that, Robin..... LOL Glad I never got suckered into their *premium* service

LOL Glad I never got suckered into their *premium* service Some of the commenters over there sounds like they are. I especially liked the ones that suggested sending mercenaries after the "attackers".
Huskarl27 Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Was fine up until about thursday last week, then my av started blocking java exploits left and right. Coincides fairly well with the recent funk with their servers/claimed ddos. Browse w/caution, scan your system, so on. I normally have fairly decent speeds from there, so this has been surprising. Don't really play personal politik with anyone there, so no comment on that. (Oh yeah first post hello etc.)
Rayblue Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Wait until the British equivalent of the Better Business Bureau gets a hold of them. If they were to be operating in America they'll be easily charged for negligence.
slamdunk Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I would love some help to get my mod downloader some content. http://mm.gamingio.com I only have one sample mod up. Which too I have to remove. I don't see a problem with downloads, specially if you use the software client. Any suggestions?
rylasasin Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 "The nexus is slow because people are DDoSing it during the summer."Well.... No shit.Gee Robin, maybe if you and your "merry" crew of moderators weren't handing out permabans like candy on halloween, maybe you wouldn't have so many people with an axe to grind trying to DDOS your site in revenge? But of course, they won't be smart enough to see that. Just keep banning people permanently (Because, you know, having a "ban first ask questions later" policy really actually helps anything instead of just pissing people off, now doesn't it?) and keep exacerbating the problem.

Robin clearly doesnt gives a shit about DDOS attacks, this wont stop people from coming on his websites, this wont stop them from seeing and clicking on the ads and this wont stop him from earning money..... Same goes with the ban policy, ranting about it (especially here) wont make it better.
Poontank Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Nesux users clearly don't give a shit about those ads, this won't stop Scobin Rott from plastering them all over his site, this won't stop anyone in his right mind from using adblockers. Which kinda throws a monkey wrench into the money-making scheme in the long run. And ranting about their banning habits never gets old and feels so good.
Ravana Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Nexus has ads? I should take a few minutes to truly appreciate my ad/java blockers, because I'm starting to take them for granted and totally forget they exist.
slamdunk Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 here's a question. So if nexus wasnt using ads, would you all pay instead? Its not just nexus, several internet based setup are on a path to implosion. Nexus is just along for the ride.
Arizona_Steve Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Given that there is so much hate towards the Nexus, where is everyone moving their mods to these days?
Ravana Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Given that there is so much hate towards the Nexus, where is everyone moving their mods to these days? Far as I know, nowhere. We all put up with Nexus solely because it's the only reliable, centralized place to find general mods. We keep far out of it's politics and community though; this sorry server performance affects everyone, however. Naturally, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard of no other major mod hosting sites as of yet.
spartan40 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Why not here? I know LL is probably NOT set up for it but this community is about 100000000000000 times better than putting up with that happens over on nexus? I spend enough time on here looking at mods, finding solutions and reading up on "WIP's" I'd really consider donating money here to help the site out. Or even pay for some type of premium service.
GMac2021 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 But coming here to whine about how shitty Nexus is and how ~obviously~ they are just blithering incompetents is dumb. I'd bitch about it over there but then I wouldn't be able to download any more bigtitty mods. Big titty mods are irrelevant! I would love to download all of the hot new Oblivion mods (CHORTLE! ROFL!) at "The Nexus" on my own time if the site actually decided to load when I was awake and I did not actually have to work.. Ripped right out of my asshole - I get "CONTENT LOADING" when I visit the Nexus. I only have a small window of time that I can dedicate to Nexus downloads. If I get home from work and have two hours available to play the game - I am not actually interested in sitting around hitting F5 until "THE SITE" magically decides to work. I would rather fix myself a sandwich and watch the Daily Show and/or the Cobert Report, than wait for the broken Nexus to decide whether it wants me to, well, damn - download anything. Nephenee13, seriously? You mod with one hand on your dick while the other hand makes big boobs and round asses. Your DMRA work is brilliant, but your opinion is irrelevant. There is much more to modding this game than changing other people's original works *cough* NAILFLAN */cough*, and sticking your changes in a fucking chest in the Imperial City Market District does not a mod make. Get over yourself. [Grumpf:EDIT] Yes, that was a bit harsh. Caring is not someting I do very well. Hey! This post may not make much sense, but it is surely better than some DMRA vampire who has built a reputation corrupting actual original works and passing them off as their own. If I was Naiflan, I would would smash the living GOB SHIT out of Comic Book Boy Nephenee. [Grumpf: Yes, it was a bit harsh so I "calmed it down a bit"]

To be fair to Arthmoor: He and the USKP team are running up against brick walls arbitrarily imposed by Steam. He wants USKP universally available, but apparently a SW mod can be only so big. So as far as SW is concerned, there needs to be a hundred different USKPs because their logistics belong to the previous century or something. Go to the current USKP thread @ the official forums for the real dope. It's not like anyone is hiding anything over there. Arthmoor might be a bit of a right wing twit, but he's a quality modder. You can't deny him that.
