Devious Devices LE 5.2

I've been having a consistent issue and it seems I've finally narrowed the cause to this mod. (at the very least the problem goes away when this mod is not installed). I even tried downgrading to version 5.0 and to no avail. My game crashes when, after playing for some time, I open any menu (whether it be the inventory, the escape menu, etc).

 

I am able to load saves. I am able to open the menu on new saves until after playing for a while. It also doesn't seem to occur in certain locations. But the problem stops entirely if I uninstall Devious Devices.

 

It is NOT from too many animations either. If I remove animations but keep DD, issue still occurs. If I get rid of DD and install tons more animations, issue does not occur.

- I'm currently running every SLAL that skyrim LE has to offer and a ton of poses. No problem. Install DD, problem.

I would post the DD logs but I don't currently know where to find them. I did make sure to check the box that creates the logs, just don't know where they are. Does that box just include them in papyrus logs?

 

EDIT: Also want to add that FNIS keeps spitting this at me regardless of which version I use:

"DD2 has at least one AASet definition without any animation files provided." Does this mean anything significant?

 

EDIT 2: Disregard this entire post. Problem ended up being a skyrim.ini setting. If anyone encounters a similar issue: make sure "uExterior-Cell-Bugger=0"

So, quick question... are the internal sex animations meant to be played anytime a bondage device is equipped, or only if Sexlab can't find an appropriate animation from other places such as SLAL packs? Because either I thought I had an issue all day today when I really didn't, or I do still have an issue after an entire day of experimenting and I have no idea how to solve it.

DD is supposed to override the animation selection entirely and doesn't bother checking installed SLAL animations. You can install DD NG which includes most relevant animations from most existing SLAL packs in its internals, to get more variety.

 

If you have SLU+, however, and have their DD filter active, this one actually looks for DD animations from within your SLAL animations, and has no access to DD's internals.

 

Both filters are known to have bugs and sometimes give odd behaviors if you are bound too much and have too many possibilities blocked. There are quite a few bugs in fallback logics which may result in getting no animations or an unrelated animation when the first or second attempts to find any fail.

So if I'm, say, wearing a chastity belt, it's supposed to play an internal animation regardless, and even if I am locked out of vag/anal SLAL anims, it shouldn't be playing any BJ anims from SLAL? Then I absolutely have an issue, because it's been firing the internal animations at a rate of near zero.

 

I've been playing through Laura's Bondage Shop quests as a testing method, and occasionally using SLEN and matchmaking spells to see what animations are available with certain devices through SLTools, and on the rare occasion I do get a 'DD_' anim I can only see the one through SLTools and it usually doesn't match the devices I have equipped. I don't think I have SLU+? If I do, I don't recognize it by its acronym. I'll post my loot order.

I'm using MO2. I started a new game with this modlist in this order. I have DD 'use bound animations' ticked on and ZAP 'use bound animations' ticked off, an Anubis SLAL pack and a Billy SLAL pack. I even tried not having any SLAL anims registered at one point and it just skipped sex scenes entirely. No T or A posing, no starting and stopping, characteres weren't even undressed and teleported into place, the sequence just failed entirely. About the only thing I can think of that I haven't tried yet is doing a reinstall of DD and starting another new file. I can drop a papyrus log, but it's pretty lengthy from a decently long play session. I could maybe try and get a smaller one by saving before a sex scene from a Laura's Bondage Shop quest triggers, but it'll take me some time to reach that point in my playthrough.

 

Here's the long log I have on hand right now, just in case. Any help from any source is appreciated, because I'm still pretty new to mod-using like this.

Oh, wait. My answer might have been a bit misleading. There are different logics dealing with finding animations for characters that have their arms bound, and characters that only have some holes blocked. The internal animations exist only for the former. There are no internal animations for characters with free arms.

 

So if you are wearing a chastity belt, and you get a sex scene, it depends on the calling mod. Since the scene is coming from Laura, in your example, I suppose Laura uses the DD method of starting sex, which means that the mod looks for a normal sex animation, from among all your animations (SLAL included), with filters according to the holes blocked. Note that if additional filters are applied by the mod itself (for example: "aggressive" for non-consensual, or if the mod's storyline demands "oral" specifically, for example), the filtered search might end up with no animation, and then the behavior is undefined. Sometimes it starts a random animation, disregarding the filters, and sometimes it will simply cut to the ending without any animation and pretend that the sex was done.

 

If mods that are NOT aware of DD are trying to start an animation, DD will get intrusive and interfere as the animation attempts to start, which means, depending on your script lag, that you might get a message of a choice of the first "illegal" animation, and even see it starting, only to have it replaced in the middle by something that passed the DD filter. Again here, if the filtered search fails to find an animation, the behavior can be undefined and unexpected.

 

SLU+ stands for "Sexlab Utility Plus", which tries to add several features to Sexlab, mainly around furniture, filters, and expressions (as far as I remember). I can't tell by the load order if you have it because it doesn't have its own esp. I'd recommend it generally, but I am not sure if it is going to remain compatible forever with DD NG, which is the near and far future of DD currently.

Well, what if I don't have free arms and it hooks a SLAL animation? I had a straitjacket and a panel gag (with the removeable plug) on during a Laura trigger, and had a bound bj anim from Billy's SLAL. I know it was SLAL because the ropes native to the anim still appeared, hanging it midair while my arms were invisible. Between SLEN, Matchmaker (and quickly equipping armbinders before the scene start), and natural triggers from Laura's Shop quests, I can't even seem to force DD anims to fire reliably enough to test I even have them installed properly. But I can't think of what I've done improperly. I followed the instructions on the page, ran bodyslide and FNIS, set the outputs to their own folders in MO2, and even started a brand new game.

 

I think I'm going to delete DD completely and start over from downloading it here. Or maybe starting with a file that just has DD, Live Another Life, and Laura's bondage (plus dependencies), just to see what happens. Or both.

 

And thank you for the help and the information. I think I understand what you're saying, and it's helping me learn what I should expect from the process.

Hi everyone, have a quick question: is there any way to configure devious devices so that before a sexlab scene vaginal and anal plugs are removed (as long as no locked chastity belt is used). I am using devious followers and am trying to get the prostitution deal to work in conjunction with the ownership deal. The ownership forces on chastity belt (open in the back) and the prostitution deal forces me to wear an anal plug. I am looking for a way in devious devices to set "remove plugs before sex" so the animation filter does not only allow for oral intercourse in this case.

I believe in general this would make sense that these kind of devices (mainly plugs) could be removed before the sex scene starts (ideally to configure this behavior. If there is a mod out there or something that someone build or a configuration option or other work around- I would be very grateful.

There's some issues with SD+, but everything else seems to be fine. DBF plans to update that mod eventually.

Haven't heard of anything really horrible with other DD mods.

Should Catsuits be blocking vaginal and anal animations?  I upgraded from an older version of the mod and I remember them not blocking animations, but now they do.  I'm not sure if its intentional or if some other mod is causing it.

No, I don't think so.  The reasonable assumption would be that a chastity belt would be locked, which of course would block plug removal.  Ideally, Devious Followers would reconcile the inherent conflict between the ownership and prostitution deals.

Greetings, I'm currently facing an issue which I cannot understand. I have Devious Devices and Devious Cursed Loot running perfectly, but. Some of the items, not all, roughly half of them are invisible. Of course I run bodyslide gazillion times but it's still not working.

 

I have anything needed for Devious Devices and Devious Cursed Loot to work well + The following collection from Nexus which I hope you're familiar with.

The meshes from BodySlide are probably going to the wrong place.  If you're using a mod manager like MO2, be sure to run BodySlide from MO2, not standalone.  When you have it generate the meshes, look to be sure that the output folder that it uses is what you expect.

Thank you so much for the answer. I actually use Vortex. I'm not sure if it's going to the right or wrong folder. I believe that Vortex supposed to figure it out by itself.

I don't use Vortex, so I really couldn't say.  However, it does sound like an output folder problem, and there are probably online guides that you find for using BodySlide with Vortex.

I don't use Vortex, so I really couldn't say.  However, it does sound like an output folder problem, and there are probably online guides that you find for using BodySlide with Vortex.

I'm having some animation issues - it works fine about 80% of the time, but there are some times where the animations will randomly stop working and my arms will appear outside of whatever restraint I'm wearing. This can happen randomly, though it also consistently happens when, for example, walking around with my fists unsheathed. I'm using Nemesis, with the Creature Pack and Gender Specific Animations installed, and I'm using the default FeuerTin animations. This issue persisted even after completely uninstalling and then re-downloading and installing Devious Devices (and of course re-running Nemesis gods know how many times). Does anyone have a fix for this?

Having a glitch with the anal plug grand soul gem. (Might affect other anal items, have not tested yet).

 

When i equip devious devices I am able to unequip them with the right tools or if I manipulated the locks etc. I typically run the easiest settings. But for some reason when i try to unequip the anal plug the "take out" option does not appear. Instead it only offers the "put in" or "carry on" options.

 

In fact, even if I go to the debug menu and terminate all DD quests, the game tells me I have no DD items equipped. Yet if I look at my character or open the inventory, it is plainly still equipped. If I try to use console commands to remove it, a new one just appears in its place.

 

In short, if I put in the anal plug, that save file will have it PERMANENTLY. I cannot find any solution except reverting to a previous save before use. This has happened in multiple different save files, but only with the anal plugs so far.

 

This has never happened to me before when using this mod. Has anyone encountered anything like this before? Is there a fix?

 

EDIT: Load Order. Note: Devious Dwarven Curiass is not an actual devious devices mod. It just has a similar name but has no connection to devious devices and does not use any of its functions. Its just an armor, so it can't be that. All other devious mods should be the usual ones that are supposed to be compatible like cursed loot.

There are some rare occasions, this might be one of them, where you need to remove the anal plug first. Put in a vaginal plug, remove the anal plug, remove the vaginal again.

 

Dunno what causes this (maybe an oversight in Taki17's fixes?), had been reported before (otherwise I wouldn't know the workaround)
