Punsaurus Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 SIGH... pleasetryme reminded me that there would be problems with Ivy if Extended Dialogue Interface was used, got rid of XDI...and the game decides to get crash-happy and now crashes when I get to the Main Menu without XDI...it runs fine once I re-install it... Dammit, I was hoping to do a story run with Ivy, but unfortunately now I'll have to end any more testing with her and can't use her anymore.

Seems FO4 is more susceptible to instability after removing scripted mods, than Skyrim was. One of the things I did to dramatically improve stability in Skyrim was ENB. Just having the wrapper installed without any real graphics alterations made a world of difference in the number of CTDs. They went alomst to zero. I also run ENBoost in FO4. While I don't run many scripted mods. I've also tried to keep them in my LO unless I had a reason to remove them. (I don't recall that I have in a while). But try ENBoost and see if that stabilizes your game.

I've tried it extensively, and if not right away, UCF will break something. Also, if you try to install UCF after having Ivy installed you'll get this image: No matter what you do, they will not work together. The best option for having Ivy with Dogmeat is Everyone's Best Friend, as it doesn't muck with FollowerScript.

I've had test runs where they play well together, and test runs where they don't. I think it has to do with certain scripts triggering in UCF that can cause the issues with Ivy.

XDI is one of those mods that poisons the well as it where. Even if you take it out, it leaves references in the safe file that can screw up the game. You could try FallrimTools to see if it can clean the save file, but odds are you'll have to start a new one without XDI.
Nevarmind Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Since I'm also aiming for a new run with Ivy, can someone confirm if she works with Full Dialogue Interface?

Even if you move UCF, it still doesn't play well with Ivy. The screenshot is what happens when you install UCF after Ivy, whether or not UCF loads before, as I said in that post.
Punsaurus Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 All of this AFT and XDI and UCF talk convinced me to do another game purge and reload (not the first time and certainly won't be the last) because I really want to try out Ivy, this time without those three mods. Takes a day doing the purge and reinstalling, in this clean state there's no AAF files yet like Just Business. There are two extra mod companions that I've always downloaded, one's Alien Elvis and the other is Casey Kessler from the WRVR mod. I think both are not true companions in the game, they can't be assigned to a settlement and always return to their point of origin with Elvis going back to the Third Rail and Casey Kessler going back to WRVR Radio. There was also the Eyebot Dustworth, but because he's in the Root Cellar where Ivy shows up in can't use him anymore unfortunately. Heh, remembering when mods hit the Xbone, the Sanctuary Root Cellar became a dumping ground for mods... The other possible big test for Ivy is the big mod Fusion City Rising...I have to confess I have actually have never gone to Fusion City yet, the closest I have gotten to triggering the mod's quest was the Inside Job story quest and then my old pc died and I moved to this one. Ever since then I've been saying to myself "I'll just work my way back to that spot in the game" but instead I've been fooling around with mods. Anyway, guess worry about that hurdle in the story when I get to it. Let's see how well this new reload goes.

As I understand, MO and MO2, handle file conflicts (not related to load order) by order of install. Load Order can't handle when 2 files address the same resources within the game, or have the same file name. It's still a conflict. Vortex will allow you to pick and choose which file or plugin to use. But MO uses the last one installed. So, if Ivy and UCF address the same resources or file names (scripts), MO2 will pull from the bottom of the install order (overwrites not withstanding) Re installing without uninstalling retains the original install order. And if the resource is loaded and retained into the save, and you uninstall and reinstall and a different plugin or script accesses the same resource, but it no longer matches what is in the save, you could cause instability and CTDs.
Cryatoc Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Any word on when Ivy's voice might be released? Haven't checked in for a while

Punsaurus Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Reloaded and all that, just realized that XDI or UCF was probably messing up the Ivy mod right from the beginning, on the previous playthrough attempt when prompted to turn to Ivy's radio station there was only silence until I finished obtaining Ivy through her waiver and the radio station starts up. What I didn't know is that a looping message originally plays when you first tune into the station, just found out about it through this new clean play. Presuming that XDI or UCF, or probably even both of them, was already causing problems with the Ivy mod. So not having those two mods is starting to reveal things I might have missed because of their interference. Oh dear, this seems to happen more often than not. 1

To clarify here two things technical, as this message – the comment, as well as what's pictured – implies, Companion Ivy would install FollowersScript.pex: that is not true! There is no FollowersScript.pex in the Companion Ivy files, nor in those from the magazines add-on. However, opposed to the last sentence in the original post, Everyone's Best Friend indeed installs an own version of FollowersScript.pex, as does the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch, which is why there's also a compatibility patch for both. So, not Ivy "mucks" with that script. 1

But it seems like that mod doesn't actually change any of the follower functions. But when I think about when modders who are altering vanilla game scripts are doing, I have to wonder why anyone would do that. Once they do a thing like that in a mod, they are telling anyone who uses that mod. "You are now stuck with this mod in your LO no matter what" regardless if that mod is broken or not. Any modder who alters a vanilla game script should be putting a disclaimer in big red letters. This mod alters XXX.pex. Just so people know, once you load a mod that does this. Don't ever uninstall that mod in that save. Because if your save is looking for the script loaded in the save and it gets a mismatched version, I would not go asking why there are all these new instances of CTDs.
uninxo Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Hi Just found an issue, Ivy's dialogue interjection during the Sanctuary quest stopped Sturges' dialogue completing, and stopped me progressing to the quest to provide food. Could just be something I've done wrong but thought it was worth mentioning. I'm just going to finish setting up Sanctuary then reinstall Ivy for now.
hukuiz Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Does the patch for using Chic Geek's voice work for the current version? Or is there a different voice patch that I'm unaware of?
