About this blog

Development updates, screenies, occasional stories, the odd howto. Whatever I feel like, really.

And, remarkably, still modding...

And this despite all my dialogue suddenly turning itself off for no immediately apparent reason.   Apart from that, I'm still going, the dialogue is taking on a life of its own again ... I'd even go so far as to say I'm having fun.

I had the creation kit going last night...

... for the first time in what seems like ages. I finally felt myself inspired to actually do modding.   Of course, first I had to update Mod Organizer, fail to get papyrus working with Mod Organizer, fail to get CBBE working with Mod Organizer, watch Mod Organizer crash whenever I added or removed a package and finally uninstall Mod Organizer, delete and reinstall Skyrim and set up the whole development environment again using Wrye Bash. (I seem to be annoyed about Mod Organizer - I hadn't

Kicking Ideas Around, Part II

I've been playing a lot of Morrowind lately, so that's where this one is set.   There's a wizard in the game called Baladas Demnevanni who, for reasons never explained, has a daedroth wandering around his living quarters. And this intrigues me. When people think of daedroth, they tend to think of the bestial form and savage brutality shown by the race, and to forget that these are highly intelligent creatures and accomplished sorcerers.   Which leads me to think that Baladas keeps his deadro

Kicking ideas around...

I've got a couple of ideas rattling around in my head at the moment. I thought I'd try and get them written down.   The first one goes back in some ways to when I was working on SSG. At the time I thought I'd like to create a scene where one woman was restrained in the middle of a large room while five or six guys took turns to have sex with her. Willingly? Unwillingly? It would be difficult to tell which. The only thing you could say for sure was that she never got a moments peace. She alway

A Coldharbour Bedtime Story

From the Book Of Suffering:   There came a day when the Lord Hircine invited Molag Bal to walk with him in the Hunting Grounds. And Hircine led Molag Bal to a high cliff overlooking the forest and spoke to him thusly:   "You who call your yourself the Lord of Domination, behold my Realm! There is nothing in the land below that runs or eats or fucks but that it is subject to my will. There is nothing that is not Prey. Can you deny that I am Master here?"   Lord Bal looked upon the Hunting G

QAYL

Just a heads up: I've actually posted a mod; first one in more than a year.   Quick As You Like is the main part of the death alternative I was pondering in my last post. The DA part isn't there and neither is the dialogue. Still, I think there's enough there to hold people's attention

Death Alternatives

So, suppose you're using Death Alternative, and you lose a fight and end up in a blackout.   And when you wake up, it's still dark, but there's a voice:   Voice: Oh good, you're awake. No don't try to move just yet. You've been very sick and you need to rest. PC ... Voice: Here drink this. PC: [ can choose to drink or be not - she has to drink either way. ] Voice: That'll help you sleep. I'll look in on you later.   beat   Faint images of people talking.   Voice A: ... so play al

I'd forgotten how much I hate working with the CK...

Create a test cell - OK   Add a slab of floor - OK   coc to it from the menu - not found.   Then I remember how I spelled the name of the cell - coc now works   Add a couple of stormcloaks - no problem   Add a quest, a script to start it and a dwemer button to all the script - no problem   Add a copy of Niranye in her undies - where is she?   Press the button - nothing happens.   Try a dozen or so ways to fix either Niranye and/or the button - no effect.   No indication of why

Well, it's been a while

Hey all. I thought I'd better check in and say "hi".   Around the start of November last year, I got my self a paying job after about a year of unemployment. That didn't leave me much time or energy for modding, and sadly, rather than post here and explain, I just avoided LL for a while.   The good news is I still have a job. The bad news is I don't see my modding resuming any time soon. Maybe the odd tweak here and there, but otherwise, RL has other claims on me. (I did think I might manage

And Now For Something Completely Different ...

I'm busy getting back into Linux and I decided to set up a login theme. I'm still fiddling with it, but it looks a bit like the picture.   Basically, it's the same image from the boot menu, through to login screen and onto my desktop wallpaper. My desktop is a custom FVWM job where everything is controlled by hotkeys or by clicking on the background for a menu. So the only thing you see on the desktop after login is the wallpaper with a status tray icon for my notepad app.   Login prompt is

Busy Going Nowhere ...

Still not a lot to report, I'm afraid. Recently I've found and purged a boot sector virus on my main machine (which explains a lot of weird behaviour on the box in question), rebuilt the Linux partitions of both my desktop and laptop, read the latest Peter V Brett Demon Cycle book, kept a house-bound kitten entertained and watched the first three seasons of Breaking Bad.   Not a lot of modding though. It seems like I've lived, breathed and eaten gaming for years on end and right at this moment

RL strikes again...

Been a busy few days and I've not had a chance to do much since the last SexLab Necro release. Looks like I'll do at least one more of them before returning to Mara - stallion74 pointed out that the zombie paramour spell isn't much use at higher levels since there aren't any NPCs around of low enough level for it to work.   So I was thinking of making spell equivalents for each of the zombie spells.   Of course, it might be easier to make one spell that turns any vanilla zombies into a sex z

Why Call Them Back From Sovngarde?

Still working on SexLab Necro. I think I needed a break from all that fiddling with AI packages and following jailors down corridors anyway. meanwhile, the necro mod keeps on growing, although I think the end may be in sight, at least for now.   The version currently up lets you reanimate a corpse for sex, or summon the corpse's ghost for the same purpose. Apart from a couple of bug fixes the one remaining thing I want to do is create talking zombies that can be ordered to have sex. Once that'

Sexlab Necro

This is a dead simple little necrophilia spell. It revives a dead body, starts a sex scene with the revived corpse, and kills it again once the scene is finished.   The spell gets added to the player's inventory when the mod is first loaded.   I may fiddle with this a bit more. Eventually I'd like to use this in the Love Of Mara, so there are some details I'd like to fine tune. There will also be a more immersive way to get the spell.   [edit]   I set up a proper download page for this:

PONG Event Chart

I thought I'd try and map out the event flow for an imprisonment cycle, and mark on it all the places where I needed a mod event to launch a scene of some sort.   Turns out there are quite a few of them.   I'll see about documenting what they all mean another time.

Skunkworks!

I've been trying to test the prison overhaul in Whiterun. There are all sorts of problems with that. Actors spend way too long walking to be useful in a debug loop; too many other things are going on which slows the scripts I want to test, and frankly typing "coc whiterundragonsreachbasement" each time is a real pain.   So I set up a skunkworks, or test cell if you prefer. I've got a simple imperial dungeon. It has a room for prison, another for the jail cell (complete with door) and then I ha

PONG Notes

As the title suggests, here are a few notes about PONG, what I'm trying to achieve and how I hope to do so.   Basically, the problem is how best to implement the AI. I need to cover a number of distinct behaviours, and I need this to be easily extensible so I can modify the default behaviour with other quests and/or add-ons. I also need to cope with prisoners active in two or more holds at the same time.   The basic behaviours I need are: in cell at night in cell during day (new arrival

Alpha Testing Closed

SexLab PONG!

Nope, I haven't invented Smellovision!   PONG is Prison Overhaul Next Generation. I should probably explain.   The original plan was to modify xaz Prison Overhaul so that it would accept NPCs. That was probably going to mean bundling much if not all of XPO in the Love Of Mara mod.   The thing is, by the time I've done all that, it's not any more work to package the XPO content in an esm and document the entry points in case anyone else wants to put NPCs in the pillory.   I talked to xaz

Could be better, could be worse...

I've spent the last couple of days working on fixing some of the bugs flagged up by the alpha testers, The process has been complicated somewhat by the fact that I'm staying at my parents' place for a couple of weeks and they've been working hard on getting me away from the computer so I can be sociable and spent time in the healthy open air. I can't entirely blame them; I have a hobby that looks a lot like sitting in a darkened room on my own and doing nothing much in front of a computer.   S

Alpha Time

Well, I've got enough bugs squished that I'm ready for some alpha testing. The quest isn't yet completable, but there's a ton of dialogue that I'd like a few people to run through and see if they can break stuff.   I've got a couple of testers already, so another two or three would be about right.

Well, that's better

Got my computer woes more or less sorted out now (knocks on wood) and I'm coding again. I've spent today doing a ton of dialogue and various tweaks and bug fixes.   I also added an advice topic to the quest-giver, Sister Magartha's dialogue, a topic for blacksmiths on the subject of restraints and how to make them, and a short speech from Sister Magartha on why all this abuse and degradation of women is not in fact an evil thing to do. (Disclaimer: they call her "Mad Maggy" for a reason )

Just Wonderful ...

Well, not only have I been turfed out of my normal little coding corner where all my stuff is, but no sooner do I get set up here than my computer bluescreens.   Now it won't boot into windows at all; it just gives me a black screen. It boots into the linux system on the other partition all right, so it's probably not hardware.   Damn. Seems like every time I start to make progress something happens ...   [edit]   In case anyone's interested: booted from a windows live CD and and running

What I Did On My Holidays

Sun, Snow and Suffering in Charming Nothwatch-On-Sea, where the ladies of the Thalmor will do anything to make your visit a pleasurable one. If only you ask them in the right way...   OK, this isn't strictly related. I took the screeny messing around with Paradise Halls a while back.   On the development front, man I'd forgotten how much time simple dialogue took. And this is far from simple. My speed is improving as I remember how to use the IDE, but there's a lot of branching and condition

Sex Working!

SexLab integration turns out to be about as easy as everyone said it was. Kudos to Ashal for a job well done.   I seem to be cracking through this at a hell of a rate. Especially when I think how I sweated to get this to work last time I tried my hand.   Next on the list, turning in the captive for a reward, and then the XPO integration. Then, I just need some bugfixes, a pile of NPCs and a few more radiants, and we'll be ready for beta testing. I'm feeling pumped!   On a personal note, I'
