For Ivy there is a script running in the background. Every 15 or so (real life) seconds she says a topic. Then depending on topic conditionals she actually speaks, or stays quiet anyway. The real logic is all in the dialogue topic itself, which a modder/creator can set up through WYSIWYG editors like the screens below:

This one in particular is for location based dialogue. When I setup an idle for a specific location, I choose the combobox value in the condition:

I see. Gives you fair control, but requires everything to be loaded at the outset because it's all declared.

Hmm...

Probably stuck with making some masters then, but using a dlc style patch it would be add on. Best to wait for a stable Ivy mod before I look at that though.

I'll just enjoy her as is until then. ?

Luckily when you define the topic, it will still only load the actual dialogue Ivy will say, the engine is smart enough for that.

For example, the player has over 15k lines in game, yet they aren't all loaded. ;)

I finally found the 'Pulowski' shelter quest dialogue! Since DAY 1 I wanted Ivy to say something random whenever the thing went.. 'Pulowski.. Nuclear protection on a budget'.. and now.. she does! Going to try to add some funny lines for her as it's a marvelous little encounter to have.

I'm also looking into a way for Ivy to assassinate an NPC on the spot, preferably with her gun. For instance during 'plugging the leak' when that guy called Sully asks you to dive into the water to clear out the quarry, and he later turns out to be a raider. Ivy picks up early on that. I want her to ask the player if she can please just kill him and be over with it, upon quest completion. Then when the player says 'alright, fine', there's a cinematic where she just blows his head clean off, done... If anyone has some tips on how I can pull that off... then there are more areas where Ivy might get that treatment... ;)

This Ivy uses the same body like my pc and all of my other npc`s or is it unique somehow? If it`s not unique i may give it a try and change the face and hair and body because Ivy is ugly as hell IMO.

So, if I DO NOT use a multiple follower mod with this mod, can I have a second follower as well or does Ivy take up the available follower slot?

Ivy uses the standard NPC body, like other NPC's. It is assumed that most people that will download and play with Ivy will also adjust her looks to their own tastes, in personal override ESP's. You're welcome to mod anything as addon for Ivy, just be aware that I will be updating her quite a few more times in the coming weeks/months.

You *can* use multiple follower mods with Ivy, it's just not supported. ;)

Hey guys,

After turning on the radio and swtiching to the WIVS (or whatever is it called) station, nothing happens, complete silence, no updates for the quest, no nothing.

This is the first time when I have downloaded this mod, I mean there was no "old" version of Ivy before in my game files, so I can't find the problem.

Thanks.

Ivy is an attention whore. Keep asking her thoughts, checking her other dialogue options and just spending lots of quality time with her. Reginald is working on more and more material for Ivy including quests and dialogue, etc. so stay tuned!

You are so much awesome sauce, thanks!

You most likely have a mod active that is overwriting Ivy's in-world radio transmitter. Move Ivy all the way DOWN in your load order. If that does not help, move her all the way UP in your load order. If you are using any 'scrap all' mods for Sanctuary, disable them. If that does not work, disable any other mods that modify Sanctuary in any way. After the recruitment process is complete, you can re-enable these mods again.

RSE modifies the Commonwealth Cell 'SanctuaryExt', if that helps you to help Ivy's users troubleshoot Sanctuary related issues...

I shouldn't have placed the transmitter inside Sanctuary. I'm moving it to somewhere outside in the wild, just outside where players can't go so there won't be any interference with mods.

But for as simple as the radio quests are, as elusive they are to me as why the issues for some people even pop up. It's just simple quest stuff, setstage, playscene, etc.. Nothing should be going wrong with it. :open_mouth:

(I do continue to be worried about the way that they set up radios to use an 'actual' frequency. If any other mod decides to use 99.69 like Ivy does then one of our radios will stop working).

You realy should go on doing those vids. I'll find myself looking for the next one ;) Rough and simple, but pacing the speed up together with the off-topic music made it very funny for me (still laughing about the language part at the first one  ). Keep going!

Short development update:

- Removed the 'CA_readskillbook' regular events and moved them into the player alias onitemadded using a keyword filter, this way Ivy will consistently remark on the player as they pick up skillbooks. As she now says these lines more often, more lines have been added to this topic group.

(This change requires yet another 'clean save' or 'new game' as the recruitment quest really needs to be re-initialized from scratch in order for the papyrus to be picked up, I found no way of forcing the player into the alias in an already saved game).

- I have expanded the 'your thoughts' dialogue with a 10% chance of a 'deeper' chat.

Only the outlines have been made so far, but for now every time you ask Ivy her thoughts there is a 10% chance that she might ask yours on something. For now the player can respond in basic manners, 'yeah', 'I'll think about it', 'no, no way' and 'that's all for now' if they want to back out and 'cancel' the dialogue scene. Ivy will ask simple stuff, like, 'do you like my hair', or 'do you think I'm a brain eating maniac', etc..

- Ivy now remarks on all flowers/fruit and veggies that are picked up by the player.

- Ivy now remarks on mirelurk egss.

- Ivy has been integrated into 5 more quests. (and yeah, there's MANY more that she needs to be integrated to, but it's a hard road due to the original bugs inside these scenes).

Like Reg said: Ivy takes up 'the' slot.

I interject in case you wanted a companion that runs independent of the default follower limit without using a multi-companion mod. I'm sure there may be others, and anyone here is welcome to add to this, but the One I use is Heather Casdin, by the author of FONV 'Willow'. She runs independent of what ever scripts Bethesda uses and is 'stand-alone'. She even 'talks' with the other companion you have along (if it's Piper or a couple others she scripted).

Having Ivy use this same approach would be awesome as Ivy's dialogue concerning certain NPC's as you encounter them is a welcome relief and my mind runs wild with the possibilities. If you notice in Reg's sig there is a comment on Danse. I could see Ivy giving him shit everytime you enter stealth with him along for example.

I have a Master's degree in Mindtripping.....

Gotta say I really laugh out loud when Ivy goes on her mirelurk hating rant. Just funny as hell and a very nice touch. Its the little things like that which makes Ivy my go to companion.

This sounds great! I find if I run a lot, I miss many of Ivy's quips, so I've slowed my play style waaaay down.;)

As I was running with Ivy today, her sense of humour really got me to thinking. She needs a giggle and some laughter. However, laughter in voice synthesisation is really tough to do isn't it? Just wondering if your speech program could do an HMM edit or something similar to create a unique Ivy laugh? Was reading a study on this today http://emosamples.syntheticspeech.de/ . This was the only example of decent synthetic laughter I could find: shiva_laughter.mp3 A couple of male examples first followed by some female examples. Could Ivy laugh and giggle?

Thanks, kittylover. Glad you enjoy my weird sense of humour. As Piper would say " lot of folks just looking for a hand" why not help, yea? Everyone who wants to should enjoy this game and Ivy!

Thanks for the cookie, bro. Was getting a bit peckish. Never got a cookie over at Nexus, the bastards.

Tried to dissable scrap everything mod, it's the only one that affects the Sanctury in any way, nothing changed, it wasn't the issue. Probably I will have to wait until you will move her somewhere outside. However I bet this is a cool mod, looking forward for the updates.

You don't *need* the radio to recruit Ivy. Just go to the root cellar in Sanctuary and talk to her. ;)

Oh lol, I thought it's somehow connected, and that without the radio I won't find her. Thank you, I will post here again if something will go wrong

You can also post if something goes right!:tongue::tongue::tongue:

I am experimenting with 'truly' random conversations that still make sense in the grand scheme of things.... And it's turning out to be FUN! By giving Ivy random dialogue and questions in advance, she can make small stories that end up in a player response. As I got home early from the congress, I'll be devoting the rest of the day into putting more content into this, so she'll have many 'truly' random stories to tell.

This scene starts with a chance of 1 in 10, every time you ask Ivy her thoughts, making the dialogue with her seem more natural, instead of her just droning out lines like there's no tomorrow. If I can wrap my head around an easy system that will allow for more elaborate and fitting player responses then I'll implement it. So far all I could come up was to set globals and add dialogue based on conditionals but that sounds 'finicky' in my head and cumbersome to maintain.

But perhaps Ivy should be able to ask the player matters about certain quests, or the past, any fitting player dialogue that I can get my hand on and could be used as a functional reply to Ivy's inquiries would do. I imagine Ivy asking about Shaun, or stuff pre-war, and the player being able to respond, but I'm not there yet and I'm not sure I will be going over all the player dialogue to find appropriate sentences for the player to say.

HAVING SAID all that... What I really like about Ivy is that the player doesn't say a lot at all, just grunts, yeah, sure, whatever, etc... this makes the roleplay element better, so perhaps this is as far as I will go with the dialogue system.. all of her questions ending on a player 'yeah, no, let me think about it and 'not right now'...

Damn I think that this mod is gonna be the best mod for Fallout 4 ever created, if you will do all these things you mentioned.. It will be not a simple companion, that says the same things over and over again, but unique character with her own personality, that's what Fallout4 is missing, vanilla companions has like 20 lines of dialogue and doesn't even say anything unless you ask them about their thoughts.

Looking forward for the updates and good luck with the development

Actually vanilla followers have a lot of lines, but often in the wrong places. :open_mouth:

Many of Piper's lines can't even be heard depending on quest choices, and many others are not ingame due to conditional errors in the dialogue (e.g. hastily copy/pasting dialogue because the actual dialogue creation is a real pain to do).

But no worries, in the current build I'm working on, Ivy now has 3923 lines of dialogue and I'm still working on more!

She needs a giggle and some laughter.

I find her inability to express 'emotion' one of her charming attributes. It's not that she doesn't experience it though. My first visit to Greygarden with her really made this stand out.

Sure she feels lust, love, frustration, impatience, fear, etc. - but they are expressed through words, not tone. It's almost deadpan comedy mixed with sarcasm...

I'm reminded of the Robot from 'Lost in Space' at times. Between his compassion for young Will Robinson, and his contempt for Dr.Smith, Ivy reminds me a lot of it. Even Robbie the Robot from 'Forbidden Planet" came across like this. His mention of not using alcohol because 'It promotes rust' is another example.

I mentioned earlier about her being a 'stand alone' and able to join as a second companion "giving Danse shit". Well, I just finished Arc Jet and wow...

Haha! Just wait until you hear her pounce on Marcy Long when the new build is released.

I agree. I initially had some laugh samples but it was very eery.. scary almost. I like the fact that she can't moan or express herself in any other way but words, I like to think that this is exactly why she is so chatty, she has no other way of expressing herself.

When she pulls a 'BumbleBee' and changes voices, it does freak me out. Literally stopped me in my tracks and made me look around with the hairs on my neck standing up - Geesh!

I keep waiting on her to say something about/to Trashcan Carla, being the 'sweetheart' that Carla is.

On a scripting note: The first time she backed herself out of conversation instead of me closing it I was surprised, and it made her feel all the more 'real'.
