Were the sound files all unpacked into the right directory, can you check?

steamapps\common\Fallout 4\data\Sound\FX\mus\radio\ivyradio

There should be sound files in there.

Does this file exist?

steamapps\common\Fallout 4\data\Scripts\Fragments\Quests\QF__ivy_activate_Quest_0101A6A1.pex

If not then your installation went wrong.

If you've tried your load order already (properly) then I don't know what to say. It must be an incompatibility with one of your mods.

The radio is the simplest form of a quest that could run, so some other mod must be overriding the priority or stopping it (e.g. Fast Start mods).

By using quest commands you should be able to set the radio quest stage for Ivy to the proper stage, kick starting the radio to work.

Another possibility is that one of your other radio mods is using the exact same radio frequency as Ivy is.

I tried MY BEST to get a 'main' radio frequencies list going (or find it on the web) but no one was interested, I guess modders like the chaos of knowing that any other radio mod can make their mods useless by one simple frequency... FYI. Ivy's radio station is on frequence 99.69.

Yes, all those files are where they should be.  And the load order hasn't changed since the last time this was all working properly.  I don't have any fast start mods installed, but how do I set the radio quest stage?  Haven't tried that.  I don't think it's another radio mod that's interfering because they were all working fine together until recently.  The only other ones I have are More Where That Came From (which uses Diamond City Radio) and Old World Rado 2.  I installed a couple other mods (Nuka World Plus, Fusion City) that were causing some other problems and had to be ditched.  It's only since I uninstalled those that WIVS has disappeared.  I can only assume it was something those mods did to overwrite it, but I would've thought that should be fixed when I uninstalled them and reinstalled Ivy.  Thanks for your attention either way.

That could mean some scripts are missing. What happens if you simply overwrite all Ivy files (e.g. reinstall her again by unzipping all files)?

(Edit you said you already did that. Try to verify your game files using Steam (make a backup of Fo4.exe first for F4SE).

Then unzip every in the ivy zip again.

You can't really set a stage inside the console, I think. You can reset the quest but I don't see how that would help.

Wait.. are you having the same issue as DominusKaine?

- Radio does not work before recruiting (e.g. nothing plays at all, no sound, no dialogue)

- After recruitment radio works as usual.

Heyup, Ghostman. Have not had a problem with Ivy breaking stealth for me (yet), but so far my stealth ops with her as companion have been ranged - i.e. sniping.

It's a common issue with many, if not most, companions. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/164592-fallout-4/73461651

Not sure if you are using any other mods that might mess with companion AI, but you might want to have a look there first, then placing Ivy below the mod(s) in load order.

Being that Ivy is now factioned with the generic followers faction, this mod might work. Definitely worth a trial: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/5612

If you do try this, would you be so kind as to let us all know if it works?

I use https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/24233 for my companions, It does everything from the mod you linked and a few other things and doesn't cause any conflicts because it doesn't make any hard edits to the companions. I will have to take a deep look at it to see if it is effecting Ivy as expected. I suspect it is because while she is crouched she does not trigger any reaction from the random mobs. So I likely have some conflicting mod that triggers the stand up and wander package which should be loads of fun to find. I think it might have something to do with the idle relax settings, as I tend to move slowly, perhaps the "relax" quest that determines when ivy can wander off and do a random idle is triggering.

I used to have this in one of the very early versions of Ivy when I tried to do something similar through a quest. Quest scenes always use packages, which always override the combat package. So I quickly let go of that technique and went to scripting (which is why Ivy does not stand up during her own idle chatters).

It looks like this mod (better companions) tries to do something similar, but it will cause exactly this bug.

Ivy is not supported under other companion mods, so you are 'on-y'er'-own', besides she doesn't need a quest like that as she has her own running.

All the points, especially in interior cells, where she (or other actors) suddenly stand up and walk towards the middle of a room is where the base game places AO_Comment triggers. These always cause actors to stand up, regardless of the combat situation.

If you can make it so that BC mod doesn't touch Ivy, your issues will disappear.

Please note that even Vanilla followers continue to have this issue, it's a known Fo4 'bug' that followers simply are not as stealthy as players.

(especially that cunt of a Danse who just blunders into everything blindly, then scolds you for a 'bad mission')...

^That made my sig.

Also: New video placed in main post, thanks so much for this @figarodlc!!

I definitely feel you on the video should reflect the monumental work Reginald put in. I agree with others in this thread. It should be about support and encouragement rather than how big a troll's balls are. This is why I hang my hat on LL instead of the Nexus. Great stuff over there too, but I end up feeling more "dirty" over there than over here. Ironic, yea?

Anyways, rant over. I've no plans to upgrade this year. I just got this laptop beginning of last year or so. It's an Alienware 17R3: 32gb ram, 16gb vram on a 980m, a 1 TB hybrid drive (256gb on the SSD side + 990ish gb on the traditional platter), and a 17in screen @ 3840x2160 res. It's not bad in any sense, and I've yet to overclock it. In all fairness though, I am driving my curved Samsung 34in @ 3440x1440 via HDMI and no graphics amp with it.

I'm kind of waiting to see what's slated for next year and gift this one to my stepson. He's been beggin and is at the point that he wants to run an affiliate webstore just so he can make some money to buy his own gaming laptop. He's 12! LOL

Keep plugging away at your videos, bro. Visually, they look great, but we all know that half of video is the audio. It's difficult to find that balance. Previous music totally fit in with the shirt though. I thought that was pretty funny.

Did you record on the same machine? If so, what did you use? If not, did you use OBS studio or w/e it's called to record?

@Reginald_001 I've restarted several times with no xxx mods, no companion mods, no survival mode mods, even with no CBBE/Looksmenu mods and I cannot, for the life of me, get that intro radio advertisement to play fresh out of the vault. I even ran through a barebones restart with just the official DLCs and Ivy running on Very Hard instead of Survival and still no success for me. I mention the survival mode mods because most of those don't even have an ESP/ESL. Everything (game, mods, f4se, etc.) is up to date as of FO4 v1.10.82. I know it's not a game-breaking issue, but damn if it's not ear-worm class irritation for me now. Regular radio after redemption works great as usual.

THAT is one powerful laptop, my friend. I wouldn't upgrade either!:open_mouth: those hybrid drives are the shiznit. Just thinking out loud but does your monitor/laptop support S-type or any other optics cable? I've got S-type running from my custom rig to a 55in Samsung 4K across the room from my "command center" and I have no input lag or bottlenecking whatsoever. The cabling doesn't cost that much more than really high-quality HDMI. Sounds like the stepson is an enterprising young lad - good on him!

Yea, I live record on the gaming rig using the I/G Overlay from Nvidia. Then just slide everything over to Wondershare and let the little gnomes do their thing.

That is the weirdest damn thing about the radio not working for you out of 111. I wonder if some left-over shadow scripting from the alternate start mod is bollocksing up the gubbins. Did you try cleaning up any unatached instances?

The really strange thing is that the second phase of the radio does work as intended, this means that the radio and its scripts are functioning.

@DominusKaine  @vondread can you try placing this .ba2 file in your mods/data folder, next to companionivy.esp.

CompanionIvy - Main.ba2

WARNING: This file is only intended for DominusKain and vondread and/or anyone for which the 1st phase of the radio does not work, but the 2nd phase (regular radio) does work, please no one else download it, it will/might break your ivy if you do.

Nice showcase video.

Only thing I would change is Zoom into your pipboy (you are trying to show us the stuff on the screen, zoom into it).

A minor thing that almost all video makers don't do, even when showcasing...

Anyway, was still a good demo. Didn't give to much away, but showed the startup basics for new users.

Might confuse people who don't realize sanctuary isn't there anymore, but I liked it. What is that mod?

There should be 26 XWM files here:

steamapps\common\Fallout 4\data\Sound\FX\mus\radio\ivyradio

While I have had no problems with Ivy, and used the video to 'find' her: she recruited properly and works exceptionally - no issues as a companion - the radio has never worked for me and I've been following this in the shadows, but decided maybe to speak up since I see a discrepancy. First, I only use WRVR radio mod, but I also have Fusion City installed. Heather Casdin is also installed, but since I wasn't going to use her this play through, I never even tuned to 'her' radio to start her 'find' quest.

Now for the discrepancy: I checked my files and only have 25 in both the game, and the archive/7zip. Perhaps your number is wrong? Or - this one missing XWM is the key I'm looking for to get the radio to play. It neither played before or after finding her. Also tried both PipBoy and the player crafted radios to no avail. She does occasionally give me caps (my cut) of her 'profession' regardless.

comm1 through comm9, commA through D, dark, maxfilth1 & 2, record, rose1 through 8. The station appears in the PipBoy, is selectable, yet is quiet with standard waveform shown.

I hope this info can help.

Sorry, should have been more specific.  It's the second phase that isn't working for me, after you redeem Ivy.  I'm going to try another reinstall with a clean save and will let you know if that fixes it.  And just to piggyback off Cranky Wanker, I also noticed there are only 25 files in my folder (and 7zip), not 26.

So for you, like with vondread, the 1st phase works (when she's pleading for someone to recruit her) and after recruiting her it never works?

For the radio to work, Stage 30 must have been set in her recruitment phase (e.g. she must have been recruited).

You could try to reset the ivyrecruitment stage to stage 30 through the console (or click on 'deactivate ivy' then 'activate ivy' in the NX-2C controller holotape).

Thanks @ModHunter42. Never really thought about the PipBoy zoom when creating videos. That is a great point and will try to remember that for upcoming videos.

Yea, did think about the Sanctuary gone thing, but hopefully most can sort that out as Ivy's quest marker is looming large whether you have a Sanctuary Hills or not.

The mod is here: https://bethesda.net/en/mods/fallout4/mod-detail/2938541

No. Unfortunately it has never played a sound, before or after. I decided to try some things anyways: Heather Casdin's radio does not work. I disabled that mod, WIVS - no joy. WRVR does work, I disabled that mod, WIVS - no joy. Enabled both of those mods, and made plugin load order changes. I did have Ivy as 1st .esp for maximum compatibility, so I moved Armorsmith extended down as far as I could (8 other mods required it) and then Ivy was moved right above it - 10 from the bottom. Still no change.

I probably did a no-no by making a new start with all mods active, so my next step would be to disable every single plugin, and start another new game and only enable Ivy once free of Vault 111. This will also give me a chance to check Heather's radio as well, since I do use her on my BOS play through....

Will check back later.

EDIT: Checking back - NEWS!

New start - no mods: Enabled Ivy once Sanctuary discovered. Radio worked, quest advanced, marker created. Ivy spoken with and quest advanced to claim voucher.

New start - All mods including Ivy enabled once Sanctuary discovered. Same outcome as above - success. Interesting situation noted. {Ivy wouldn't speak while PipBoy was playing WIVS}<unrepeatable, likely wrong!>. Turned off radio, spoke with Ivy, and as soon as Ivy granted claim voucher quest the Heather Casdin radio station and quest began. Toggled TCL/TGM to quickly retrieve voucher and returned. Ivy claimed as companion and normal/secondary WIVS began working per mod.

Conclusion: Mod should not be started until Sanctuary discovered. Change this to Vault 111 exited!

Recommendation: Investigate reason for Casdin radio quest hang prior to disabling/removal of Ivy discovery broadcast. Perhaps the Radio could be 'removed' from quest status and continue to play discovery broadcast until Ivy is claimed, at which point the switch to the secondary broadcast is made?

Side note. Because my earlier play through began with all mods active, the WIVS broadcast was never heard and advancing the quest manually by speaking to Ivy never advanced the radio part blocking the Casdin quest from triggering, so neither station played. Will try to salvage this set of saves by doing a clean install to see if both stations work as intended. New start was made for test purposes only.

Posted

Final Notes: Clean reinstall of Ivy allowed fully modded start to properly acquire radio broadcast and all mod features thereafter. Ivy did speak while Broadcast played, and the broadcast cleanly switched from discovery to musical upon voucher redemption. Casdin Radio never recovered from this procedure. New start explored for consistency: All mods enabled at top of vault 111 elevator prior to discovery of Sanctuary. Everything worked properly at that point. Casdin Radio quest still hangs till Ivy's voucher quest begins. Mission accomplished. Whew!

Ok, I just got up, but I was thinking the same thing last night (that the audio file was missing), so I double-checked the download. I definitely only have 25 audio files instead of 26 (check screenshot). I played all the audio files outside of FO4, and they all corresponded with the "normal" radio broadcast. I just don't have the "advertisment" file.

Needless to say, I'll download the hotfix to verify. As always, thanks for the quick support response—and also to @figarodlc, but I had done a fresh new start even without a fast start mod (barebones DLCs + Ivy only). Anyways, back in a bit.

dude, may I ask how to make IVY to prostitute?

can't find the broadcast building option in workshop menu ...

In workshop>decorations>miscellaneous. Should be with the rest of the radios, no?

@Reginald_001 and others...

BA2 archive was a bust. I don't think it's an issue with the scripting since the audio file is missing. I loaded my "clean" startand let it run through all the normal mod activations. Opened Pip-boy, selected WIVS radio, and no change (no audio file = no advertisement).

Are you changing over Ivy to archives instead of loose files in the upcoming 3.2?

@figarodlc yea, stepson is always wheelin' and dealin' with his classmates and his momma (spoiled brat that he is, LMAO), but yea, he's a smart one. Deep down, I'm a softie, but he has yet to penetrate my thick armour! My monitor has 2 HDMI and 1 DisplayPort for connectivity as seen HERE, but my laptop only has... wait, I just looked. It DOES have a mini displayport! I might have to run to the store today. LOL Good excuse to get out of the house, yea?

Too bad!

I checked and there's only supposed to be 25, so that's not it either. :open_mouth:

I'm not sure I'll be changing, it will mean forcing people to clean their current install by manually deleting everything, perhaps I'll give people the option, loose files, or the ba2 archived version. Then they can choose to their liking. But I'm not too comfortable with the whole ba2 thing.

One thing I did miss though in all my releases were several facegen files for Ivy, which is what makes her face look just a bit different in my game than in your games. So I'll definitely will be releasing these with, next time.

^This, and Ivy is a prostitute from the moment you recruit her. She goes to customers when you sleep so you are not bothered with it, using her teleport systems to get there. Sometimes when you talk to her, she gives you money, sharing what she earned with you. Very rarely a customer is mean to her, or treats her badly and she will ask you to kill the customer.

So, there ISN'T supposed an actual audio file for the advert? I'm confused now. Where's the sound coming from then?

Honestly, you can troubleshoot it when you have time and/or completed other features/integrations. This is kind of a one-off anyway. I have a clean save now to test whenever you need me to. At least until the next round of Beth CC updates mucking everything else up.

Is there anyway to change ivy's looks in game?

You'll have to use ShowLooksMenu (SLM) via console. I think it was a planned feature at one point, but I don't think Reginald has implemented it into neither her control holotape nor her dialogue quest yet. He's too busy making more cool NSFW dialogue and working on her mythology questline (and hopefully bringing us more snippets about "Le Pelican King").

Huh. Its just that I have been searching around and seen different variations of Ivy with different hair and whatnot. Still have not even really figured out how to get her to give me quests. Working on it though lol
