That's one of the reasons why i can't take them seriously. It's not like they are a Werewolf faction, they are a warrior faction. They shouldn't demand of you to sell your soul and become a werewolf just to rise up their "ranks." As if they even had a hierarchical structure one could take serious.

You take his place which has no meaning at all. That's why I like the Dawnguard so much. It's the only faction where you don't become the leader but a member. It's also the only faction where Skyrim's radiant quests make sense, since you ain't the leader.
