I fear that paid modding will return  :(

It will, but how many people will try it is a different story.  Bethesda knows there's a big pile of cash in mods that they haven't been able to tap into, particularly when it comes to console players.  The real question is how badly will they screw it up as compared to how badly valve screwed it up.

Hi.

Can you imagine the amount of mony Beth will get just by posting Skyrim to XB1 and PS4?

let's do some Calc suff:

Hypothesis: PS4 and XB1 will get the new Skyrim for $ 20.

Fact: about 86% of the Fallout 4 games sold were sold on consoles (pretty much 50%/50%, check on SteamSpy.)

Hypothesis: Skyrim re-wamp will get 2 millions buyers.

Revenue for Beth (and please consider that is all based on hypotheses): $ 3,440,000,000

OK, if I was Beth I was doing it right away.

Mods paying? Who cares, not my profit.

Just avoid legal stuff and stuff that make me sell less (explicit adult stuff, for example.)

Skyrim remastered where they fix old bugs and add a shit ton of new ones and now there will probably be an even bigger cluster fuck of mods if the old mods don't work with the new version so there will have to be more then one version of mods now and people will have to try to keep track of what is what and what version this is and what that is.

If they came back with paid mods I would do just like I did the last time they tried it and that was adblocking anything that went to paid mods on steam so when I went to steam I saw none of the paid mods as they were removed from my steam pages which is the best way to ignore them.

I think you're low-balling it at $20. Legendary Edition (which this apparently will be) is still $40 on Steam.

Here's the solution.  Ignore them.

will others ignore it as well ?? specially peasants on consoles ?? No they will fuel it further "bringing paid modding back in organised manner" just like beth said.

Who cares if other people ignore them or how they use their money.

It would be monumentally stupid of Bethesda to bring back paid mods (Do you remember how quickly they reversed course?)  I see beth.net primarily as a way to keep game sales going on consoles that are past their prime.

Btw, I would be interested in seeing where you got that Beth quote from.

Honestly, I haven't seen any FO4 screenshots to know whether or not I might be interested in the remastered version. I have all of the DLCs, but I have concerns that it may be more than a graphics overhaul, and that it will actually break nearly every mod out there, as has been voiced by others.

it was the valve not bethesda gabe infact who called off paid modding and why do you think bethesda has their own mod distribution system now ? they weren't happy with valve's decision to call off that fiasco really quick. they are setting it all up for the return they said they will do it in more planned way while valve just cancelled it completely.

Thank you, Myuhinny for the part about the "shit ton more bugs." In trying to fix things, we can surely count on Beth to break exponentially more things.

The game will be sold at close to full price, since you are getting all the DLC and the updates.  They only reason they are throwing PC users a bone is in hopes that it will lead to the mod community updating thier code so that this project is successful.

New version will require some updates to the mods, there's quite a few huge DLC sized mods on the Nexus, most modders aren't going to buy a new version of Skyrim to update code they did years ago, but they might update it to see how it runs with the new version if they don't have to pay for it.  Also, since you can't really "test" a mod on the current console platform, most modders will require the pc version of the game to develop.  Asking a user who has everything, and who already has a graphics setup from S.T.E.P. to buy the new game so they can update their mod isn't going to happen.

I am still curious how they are going to deal with LOOT myself, but I am sure eventually it will get baked into the game.

The remastered version will probably not work with ANY of the existing mods for Skyrim so they throw PC users a bone by giving it away for free in the hopes that they update their mods to "Skyrim 2.0".

Now why would that be necessary? Because we can basically already get most if not all of what the Skyrim Special Edition has to offer with the good old modded Skyrim on PC and if no one can be arsed to make mods for the "new" Skyrim it will fade into irrelevance pretty quickly.

Sure, the majority of initial sales came from the console market but Skyrim managed to stay relevant for almost 5 years now because people continued to make bigger and better mods for it.

If this doesn't happen for the special edition it will just be another AAA game which you play for a few hours and then never look at again.

Sure they'll come back with paid mods, the main diffrence to their last try with paid mods is, that they start bring mods on consoles, there are many ppl using it on consoles (maybe more than pc users, IDK) For those ppl mods are something new, plus they are used to pay for every little shit, so this market is maybe much more receptive for paid mods, and they can reduce the shitstorm of PC users. And that is not a bad plan to bring paid mods back. (just talking about the plan, not about my oppinion about paid mods) And release of a remastered edition of skyrim, with mod support for xbox/ps is just another babystep on that way.

Just my 2 cents.

cheers.

It's already possible to use graphics mods for Skyrim to make it look as good if not better than the special edition.

Volumentric Ray's however can only be made better if you have access to source code which Bethesda does and they made it better.

So aside from that you can make Skyrim look as great as the Special Edition if not even more better with mods and ENB's/SweetFX.

I don't have FO4 but I would probably trade ENB for decent god-ray in Special Edition.

Special Edition will have a decent god-ray, everything else you can already do them in ENB/Mods.

Sorry I was referring to the potential tradeoff of playing with SE  :P

If Special Edition does have decent god-ray then I probably don't mind if it breaks ENB.  As wonderful as ENB is in terms of variety of choices I think good god-ray trumps it.

SKSE and FNIS on the other hand are deal breakers.

Skyrim will come out in the FO4 engine, which means that it IS better then the one we are working with right now. Also it means that Skyrim can work for another 6 years, instead of living on borrowed time like it is now.

Soon the hardware (and software) will have advanced so much that Skyrim, in it's current state at least, would become unplayable. We would have to go through loopholes to get it to work like with old games.

It also means that we can mod even MORE stuff into the game as the memory allocation issues will have been fixed. On top of that, a lot of mods that are currently used to just FIX stuff will become obsolete or mostly obsolete, freeing up more ESP slots, which we then can use to put even MORE stuff into our game.
