gvman3670 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Thanks guys, I appreciate your feedback. Puts my mind at ease that I managed to make a somewhat decent elf that looks like an elf rather than a human with pointy ears. She looks good. So is she a Bosmer? Or a Nord with the racial sliders? Or modded elf race? I liked her enough it spurred me to create a she-Bosmer of my own. I went with a vanilla Bosmer race, tons of slider work then a little sculpting (using CITRUS head, too). She turned out OK I think. I use the ygnord race that comes with ECE. Makes it easy to test out new textures and meshes without NPCs being affected. Ahh, I've gone that route in the past. I have been using RaceMenu for a while now, though (ever since the ECE morphs and the sculpting tool were added), since it literally does it all now (even poses are accessible from there now, as well as CITRUS body morphs, which is the coolest shit ever).

I use racemenu, too. I just use the ygnord race that comes with ECE, not the character editor itself. The only reason why I keep the ygnord race is because it's a nice custom race all set up without doing anything else like most custom race mods do. Fits nicely into the game since it's just a duplicated Nord race anyway.

Not quite done yet, but I did want to maintain that alien elf look to some extent. I think I'll play with her as a sneak thief and archer.
Buddy Christ Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 I've been there. I used to run on a poor rig for a very long time. To help with screenshots a basic start is playing with the FOV, to help compose the scene and create perspective and scale. The first scene is too soft, and doesn't feel as if anything is in focus, even though the focal point is your character posing. The second shot feels too busy for such a scene and the perspective that's used. My eyes end up going all over the place and then I end up focusing on some things that are lower res than others right next to each other - I would've zoomed in further using a smaller FOV and blurred the background out with the mountains and part of the roof still visible. I think your third shot here is great. It's got a candid feel to it, you caught her in a good expression and everything. The FOV also looks just right for the scene. It's clear what the focal point is, and the background adds more to that focal point. As opposed to the first two shots, blurring the background or changing the FOV, I think would've taken away the feeling of it. I'm no authority or standard on any of this, but I thought I'd share my opinions, or what I'd have done. Thank you for the feedback and the tipps. I think the softness in the first one comes from the interior lighting I have active right now. Guess it is time to try some different things here Getting the composition of a picture right is still a thing I have to work on as well, I played around with the FOV in it. Normally I do not use DOF in the game, since it makes me feel queasy after a while. But I will try to use it for screenshots next time to see how it turns out. In the 3rd one I set the FOV to 45, because I didn't want to have the dummy in the foreground look like a giant ^^ Thank you for sharing your opinions on the pictures and giving me some ideas and pointers
Killing Joke Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 totally scared to post any of mine here....but hey great thread..anything that is positive to peeps who need it..must be a good thing . but if there is anything i can advise through my limited knowlage of screenshots..i will try to oblige. I miss your screenshots (don't lurk the other thread anymore) but honestly, no ass licking or anything, I think you're more in position (huhu) to give advice than to receive them. Technically and artistically, I can't find anything wrong...

Very, very cool setup.

gvman3670 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Yes. Get the newest CITRUS and the newest RaceMenu.
GimmeBACON Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Just my girl enjoying my least favorite day of the year... I've been spending it alone since I was fifteen (eight years now) Since I don't eat cake, I guess she's going to pig out a bit. Not complaining, anything that increases that booty, I'm all for.
Epic Gamer Frey Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 @GrimReaper. She's turned out amazing! @Taskmaster. Always love seeing Jann. I think you wanted to convey the sadness of spending the birthday alone, but I can barely see her face in that picture =/ Also, does anybody have a dos and don'ts when using Facelight/Raillight ? Mind sharing ? I ask because I abuse Raillight too much. Most of my shots feel like they were done in a studio
stilz Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Makela I hate boobplate armour, yet she makes it look good. She's got one of the most "realistic" looking faces for a Skyrim character. Glad you like it on her thanks. I guess Ill bite. But all ive got for this is some older/already posted screens Makela I've always liked your Makela, she's got such a strong and mature look to her. Thanks, thats what I was trying for. I guess Ill bite. But all ive got for this is some older/already posted screens I'd move her eyes a little farther apart and make the mouth a little bit narrower. Closer to the golden ratio that way. TY, and the mouth has been an area i havnt been 100% happy with for her. Just cant get myself to change anything without putting it back 30 minutes later... lol. I guess Ill bite. But all ive got for this is some older/already posted screens Cool. Beautiful character, stilz! thanks Sorry for the late reply but I got some stuff in for my computer and didnt feel like doing much of anything till it properly was set up. Thanks for the feedback guys!

I wasn't trying to make it look good or anything, just take a commemorative b-day picture and putting it up. I was pretty drunk last night, but, even sober, without inspiration, I'm pretty shitty at taking pictures. Actually, I'm just shit at taking them all together. I suppose I could re-download facelight, the real problem would be finding an area that doesn't envelope her in darkness in the first place, and maybe with a better atmosphere.
ao2thend Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 There's so much to say and reply to. I'm terrible with FOV when it comes to scenics.... I don't think scenic shots need FOV because you want to pack the landscape into the shot unless you are focusing on something in particular. At least that's how I go about it. Nice stuff. I like it. Definitely hope this thread stays a thing. Feedback is always good for creativity! Anyway, I've got two characters up for criticisms. Like Taskmaster said, more detail in the normal maps might help and the only other thing I noticed is that Lucari's chin has two sharp points where you can see some vertices sticking out. That could be the normal map or just the mesh warping oddly. Its not a big deal, but its something that always bothers me when I create characters. The only other thing I wonder about is Lucari's vampire eyes. Are they vanilla re-placers or modded? totally scared to post any of mine here....but hey great thread..anything that is positive to peeps who need it..must be a good thing . but if there is anything i can advise through my limited knowlage of screenshots..i will try to oblige. The only thing I have to say is that your characters and the scenes you create are awesome, and maybe a bit more of the content you create can be shot in daytime and outside? Seems you put many nighttime/indoor shots up but when there's an outdoor daytime shot in the mix it usually is the best looking shot in the set in my opinion. Thanks for the feedback guys, and I took your criticism. She was fearful of the change, but I think she'll come around. I'm not sure if those'll do, but it's better than what I had before. I think that she may be one of the, if not THE, most real/unique characters I've seen. There are some ridged looking sections on the sides of the bottom of her nose, but that can be tricky to fix so it may be best to leave it.
GrimReaper Posted August 15, 2015 Author Posted August 15, 2015 @GrimReaper. She's turned out amazing! @Taskmaster. Always love seeing Jann. TESV 2015-08-15 13-41-24-21 by Yngol Storm-Blade, on Flickr Thank you. Your pictures are amazing, however I'd try to use a wolf replacer like true wolves of Skyrim, because that wolf in your shots is kinda ... ugly. Bethesda really did a bad job on the wolves.
Epic Gamer Frey Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 @GrimReaper. I use Bellyaches animal and creature pack. I dont like the true wolves of Skyrim meshes. Makes the wolves a little too cute and cuddly. lol. What I use is quite low res, but I'm ok with it. Rather low res wolves than cute wolves. @Ettorg. 3 beautiful shots! I love the first one.
sophiextime Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 3 screens to show Oh my!!! she is totally gorgeous and really nice camera and art work. i love them thankyou.. Her jewelery is really pretty too. Where did you find that smexy nose chain?!

Maybe someone can upload it? my connexion is very slow today.
Jeffrey Lane Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 @Ettorg: is she asian influenced? the 2nd pic really makes me wonder if she is wearing a kimono. very pretty tho.
blazingsai Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Have you tried experimenting with different face normal maps? I feel as if they lack volume, and seem more hand drawn and flatter currently, but that's not a good or bad thing, just personal taste. The stories you weave and the scenes you create feel more like an animated series over a forced realism approach, so my suggestion might be off base. Maybe what I'm really trying to say is that I feel they could differentiate more in facial structure and features, to better emphasize the differences they have in their appearance. There's so much to say and reply to. Like Taskmaster said, more detail in the normal maps might help and the only other thing I noticed is that Lucari's chin has two sharp points where you can see some vertices sticking out. The only other thing I wonder about is Lucari's vampire eyes. Are they vanilla re-placers or modded? Ah, yeah... the flatness... Honestly I hadn't noticed it XD. It's probably because I'm using FSC normal maps (actually FSC normals w/ Adorable face but whatevs...). I'm probably going to experiment with SG again, because I LOVE its normal maps and all the other facial normal maps I've used made my characters look older than I wanted them to. @ao2thend Uh, those are vanilla replacers. From what? I currently do not know
Shermie Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Quick outdoor shot....and in response to ao2thend ..i agree...tho quite honestly its not a concious thing i do to neglect outdoor shots..i will work on it. my love is mainly to create contrast..its hard to do outside in daylight ,unless you find good shade and shadows..anyway...berate her..ohh btw..she's a Lovegirl Char who is Cbbe i like to keep a cbbe in my roster to take advantage of costumes..etc anyway here she is i also made a new Nord..no name yet..i might keep her
ettorg Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 @Ettorg: is she asian influenced? the 2nd pic really makes me wonder if she is wearing a kimono. very pretty tho. Maybe the hairs can change the face a lot, here's a "few" examples (exactly the same character in all pics): Here's some new pics: Shermie, i agree, the only way i found to have a decent lightning is to place my char in front of a firelight (did this in the last screen) or sometimes use this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/47517/? ....i hope it helps
