So merging all mods that are safe to merge is a great big plus, and I highly recommend it.

Again, we've talked about that several times... yes, it helps. I'm about due for another round of merging. My problem is all of the CC that I make. I can't really merge it all until after I decide it's done, and upload it.

I have more than 120 packages just in my test folder. ((( And added 4 or 5 more today. (((((((((((((((((((

Always back up you mods first, and place them in a safe place.  In maybe folder's that are named the same as your Merged Package, so you know whats in them.

you can pretty safely merge all animation files, just remember what you have to type in KW to activate them.  all clothing mods have mostly always merged with no problems

Scripted mods should be avoided they can work, but sometimes go goofy, and you may not notice there failures at first.  ( that has for me been correct )

best to read a few merging pages as info is testy at best. Here is one page I use https://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/04/tutorial-combine-package-files-to-reduce-lag.html https://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/04/tutorial-combine-package-files-to-reduce-lag.html

But there are many, and some are more informative.

You can when updating remove mods from your merge with Spe3 and add back or over write the older package with the new inside your merged files.  But some prefer to make a new merge, and delete the old.

Another voice preaching truth!

Maybe, just maybe the congregation will pull their heads out of their cellphone long enough to see the wisdom spoken here and not ask us to repeat the same thing again and again. I myself have fallen into the trap of expounding the virtues of using the search engine to discover posts related to NOT NEW problems which continue to be discovered by new users.

If I'm asked to spoon feed information, I hope they don't get upset when I smear it all over their faces :P

Sounds like @galgat has been reading the thread! Did you see where I posted that I have 1.2 GB and a 1.5 GB hair packages? My mods folder stands at nearly 8 GB as of now. ))) Surprisingly, less than 1 GB is my work.

@Galgat and maybe all others: In Isla Paradiso there lives a Family called Ichtaca.Their Home Lot is borked with routing Issues.Even in Ellacharmed Fix.What I have on these World is at 5am (simtime) a real Killerlag the first 3 Days. Killerlag means my Game stops running,Gametime stopped, but the Animation of Trees worked. This lasted approx 3-6 Min(realtime). Then i could play.I think this has something to do with the Marine Life(Mermaids,Sharks,Kraken).

I think the map that give me the most trouble is Isle Paradise with KW.  I can play it but many places will eventually start the stop and go.  Reseting the town Nraas will bring back stable for a bit, but it eventually goes buggy again, Keeping save files clean helps some, also some times it just clears up after I move to a new location.  ( a real shame as I find that to be one of the most expansive, and fun map's to play what with the (Mobil Home )House boats, and scuba diving and mermaid's and Island discoveries water skying and much more ( and I do have ellacharmed fixed maps ))

I found that in the Rule's .sgr  removing the "#" sign seems to work better for me.

I am not truly sure just what telling the game to ignore that line with the #  does, but I think it reserves the memory, and I need to use it.  ( But I am not sure ) all I know is for me <<< Note the for Me!  It seems better not to have the "#" sign in GraphicRules.sgr

  # setb textureMemorySizeOK false

( which as I understand it makes the game totally ignore that line )

Increasing from 2048 to 8192

  seti textureMemory      2048 # 8192

does not seem to make much of a difference for me <<< Note the for Me! However I find 4096 to seem to be the sweet spot for my game play.

My system right now is "win 10 64 bit
AMD ryzen 3900 12-core, Ram 16 Gig DDR4/3200MHz, Vid Card Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 Super" so is not a slouch, but this game is really troublesome to keep running solid for sure.

You have to remember the Sims 3 is a 32bit game and has the limitations of a 32bit game.

Also the seti textureMemory part is for graphics the game itself will never use more than 800 mb for graphics which is why setting it above 1024 is useless and no you actually need the # sign for the game to read that line properly.

And Isla Paradiso the world that comes with lsland Paradise has long been known to be totally fucked up routing wise even Ella's fixes doesn't really help much with it. That world needs to be completely overhauled and rebuilt.

I'm still amazed at this website: More cities? No problem. More memory? That can be a problem.

Okay... I tried installing Bastport 2... TRIED! I don't have all day, and despite the nearly 8 GB in my Mods folder, my game loads in less than 10 minutes... probably closer to 6... both screens. After almost half hour, I said enough and removed it, then restarted so I can play a little.

Looking into the files for Bastport, I will tell you that it is almost a stand alone game!!! It includes, 4 or 5 skins, perhaps 20 sliders (most of which, most of us probably have), dozens of hair files (most of which I know I have), eyes and other make up, not going to bother to try to count how many outfits and CAS parts, 29 premade sims... one I counted 20 premade outfits! And I haven't even started on the stuff for build/ buy or just pieces that make up the city. Yes, a bit much!

Okay, took a quick look at more of the outfit CC. I found one clothing mesh that is 1.2 mb! That's as big as good hair meshes... and bigger than most. EA swimsuit plunge is only 173 kb in size. Screen shots of this world looked beautiful, but not sure I will ever find time to take everything apart to figure out what is just bloat and leave out.

I do not disagree with you, but everything you just said,  just like everything I said you can go somewhere Else on the net and find a different answer, and everyone of them will sound like they were part of the main programming team that created the game.

I like to think if it does not fuck up your game, and it appears to help.. do it.

And yes I know Isle Paradiso is a buggy mess, but sense I had not played in some time, I figured it was worth a shot to see if anything new had been created that helped fix it.  As I said I was Grabbing at straw's .

I figure you do use it, unless something Else has been made that is far better, but if not have you tried Sims 3 Dashboard ?  I have always found it to be pretty helpful.

Yeah I appreciate that, I knew there were a few families that were borked, actually some in almost every map as I recall.  I will give your idea a try, Thank you!

The problem is that 95% of the CC is in a few merged packages. Dashboard tells which package has duplicates, but doesn't give CASP numbers to track it down. And then, the individual packages inside of the big merge are not named, and many are entwined so that chunk offset doesn't separate them correctly. ((( IF there is a thumbnail,it will correspond with a CASP number, and the CASP can be disabled, but if only an ICON... OY!!!!

Dashboard is great when you download a single item package as you can see if it conflicts or duplicates existing CC, and then just remove it, but not so helpful with large merged packages. (((((

Shame: I prefer the creator show any CC included with any download. Sounds like quite a laundry list which was kept private for whatever reason. One of the first custom worlds I ever downloaded was from Carl Sims site - a public venture called Union Cove. Fairly large, sprawling suburban neighborhood. Almost fully stocked with player made homes and families, yet only uses default EA stuff.

Different themes, and concepts from all the contributors make it a potpourri of ideas, but there won't be any nasty surprises like you've mentioned. I did run into 'Charlie Sheen' while playing it - maybe that could be considered a 'nasty surprise'.

Yeah I have had that problem too, I remember sense I backed up all my stuff in folders with the same name as the merged.packages I just removed the merged, and then placed all the UN-merged back in ran dashboard, and removed all duplicates and problem packages, and then re merged them.

However if you get the name number what ever of the offending package you can also just remove that package from the merged file with S3pe, but some will tell you this can create Error's, and I don't doubt them, but I do it anyway, and so far as best i can tell it has caused no problems for me <<< Note the for me ?

Yeah I remember reading people saying the Ichtaca familly and there home was bugggered so I evicted, and bulldozed the lot, and game is much better seems like. Thank you!

And you're right for quite a while the Stop and go was buggy, but it cleared up after a bit, and now seems to be running pretty much smooth every where. All my Nraas mods had to smooth out first it seemed. You may be right on the Mermaid's and Kraken, I mean your guess is as good as all the others I read.

With a total of 3.2 GB in 3 hair packages, it's easier to just not add the hair packages from a new world. Loading those as individual packages into anyone's game would have the little wheel spinning for a month with no movement of the progress bar. )

I've looked at the merged packages, and some may be worth pulling out, other stuff not so much. As it stands, I probably won't be installing that world. The more I look at it, it almost looks like a stand alone game that would be great if you had nothing else in your sims folders, including EPs.

I run all of my garment CC through Meshing Tool Kit add names function. Mostly because I can't stand it when someone else doesn't. They probably aren't hiding anything, just too lazy for one more step, or don't know about the tool. Although, it doesn't seem to work with buy objects.

I've actually run CC made by others through Tool Kit to name their stuff before I merge packages. PITA!

toothbrush ... cheaper

I found it a pleasant surprise that quite a few hotels provided toothbrushes. But, renting a flat would be cheaper, b/c those type things wouldn't exist. ?  I also found it rather depressing that so many US brands are available "behind the iron curtain". I guess I keep forgetting things changed nearly 3 decades ago. (Although the Gillette products I priced at a large store were the same as from Amazon here.)

vodka

Well... I did pack a 2nd suitcase (nesting ones come in handy) my last trip so that I could bring back more souvenirs... IIRC US customs allows 3L, but, well, my state doesn't sooo... :(  I should experiment around with tuning that KinkyDrinks xml file I mentioned in another post a while back, to see if I can get Vodka to show as an option in-game.

Hotels and flats have there advantages and disadvantages. Hotels are expensive for larger rooms, or multiple rooms... but almost always have an elevator! Our last visit to Kharkov, we had a 4th or 5th floor apartment with no elevator! Not much fun after a long night out, especially for my husband!!!

But what I meant by cheaper about things like shampoo and basic items, is that travel sizes cost almost as much as a full size! We may stay for a month, as we did in September/ October, and it's much cheaper to bring enough for one or two nights, then go shopping.

Yes. I was able to. But I think I changed it in the STBL, let the names remain in the xml, but changed the color to white. I replaced hard cider with vodka.

Parks, Schools, Beaches, and any other usual culprit will benefit. The markers are only visible in build/buy mode, and they will jog till fatigued or you stop them, so one can gets some cardio miles into the skill books without having to babysit or set multiple jog points around town.

Go jogging at the beach and wait for other sims to arrive.... I also having a 'no autonomous play in water' mod, so they sun bathe or swim more often, and I just remembered I have a fun in sun type mod so other things like windsurfing happen spontaneously.

I do have one household with a dedicated lifeguard, but after playing enough 'Ambitions', sometimes a rabbithole job can be more relaxing as a player.

IRL travel, you only buy the small containers once - then refill from your home supply in the future. Parents are wonderfully pragmatic and learning these little tricks make so much sense.

Not having the # on that line causes the game to go into Override Mode which is not something you want the game to do as that can fail and cause more frequent CTD's and other performance problems. It also puts the game under extra unneeded stress the game engine is already under a lot of stress as it is.

And it doesn't apply to just this game but to all games/applications that require specific graphical settings. I learned that in Basic Programming 101 and yes I was a professional programmer retired now.

Also Twallan and Pescado who are not only modders but are also professional programmers have said the same thing and a former member here Namaradus who was one of the Sims 3 game developers also said the same thing.

It's all that damn fog on the hidden islands the marine life has nothing to do with it. The mermaids are sims not marine life, the sharks are generated by spawners and kraken also generated by a spawner only shows up under certain circumstances and is then deleted by the game after it does it's thing.

So, is there a way to get rid of the fog? I mean, for a normal person who is not a computer programmer, retired or otherwise... ?

Other than overhauling the world in CAW. You can use the cheat codes CTRL+Shift+C testingcheatsenabled true and then discoverallunchartedislands (warning this also makes the sim you are controlling the owner of the islands).

https://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/cheats.php

But since I'm not good with CAW I use custom worlds for this place http://www.mysimrealty.com/Sims3_Worlds.html

The worlds are pretty nice they have a few flaws I recommend getting rid of the resorts or at the very least use rabbithole rugs and get rid of the basements that are under the rabbithole lots and resorts.

Also try not to download more than 2 per visit as it can cause their server to shutdown. Download a couple and then wait 10-30 minutes to download a couple more etc...

well I finally got Island paradise to run smooth as silk in all places as best i can tell.

Here is what I did

1. Of course first get your vid card recognized
https://www.nexusmods.com/thesims3/mods/106?tab=posts&BH=0

2. Then get Sim Game selector <<< this won't work if your running 1.69. or that was my understanding only 1.67 and below.

3. only turn on these with sim game selector, Or they were my preferences. You could vary them around a bit but 2,3, and 5 are needed for KW.
1. World Adventures
2. Late night
3. pets
4. seasons
5. University
6. Island Paradise

I also set my Sims3.ini to 35 meg

[ResourceSystem]
MemoryUsageLimit =35000000

Just my thinking on it.

If have graphicsRules.sgr set like your card.
All should be good.

Might add packs one at a time until it breaks again, but right now like this all is great ?

Edit >> My main problem was trying to run all the packs
