...0... Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I think good news free update from my windows 8.1 to 10 nice! 12 Months it will be free update. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/21/microsoft-windows-10-free_n_6517306.html?utm_hp_ref=technology
j.smith42 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I like the idea of a free update a lot, but what worries me is that they aren't telling us how much it will cost after that first year. This being microsoft, I"m worried they'll do something like lock you out of your own computer unless you pay. I don't like that... especially since in microsoft's eyes, you're not buying the software, just a licence to use it. I think I'll stay with what I have and upgrade with a new computer.
...0... Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 If microsoft would lock you out and ask money they would be destroyed in no time. All who get free update will as normally get everything free they wont charge you for a update again its not EA hehe.
Mister X Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 As I got it, they want to restructure their financial business: - First, the basic framework (so Windows 10) will be for free, at least for 12 months, probably forever - But you have to buy additional features (eg. more Cloud storage, Office 365, ...) So mainly they want to have as many people as possible using their Windows framework, so they are able to sell as many addons as possible. Additional to that, they have their main advertence on the business sector, so more money from companies and less from private households.
j.smith42 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 The fact they're not saying it's free forever still worries me, but Mister-x might be right. If it is not free forever, it will be after people start complaining when the price comes out. Hopefully Microsoft learned from the Xbox one launch. If it is free forever and doesn't come in some super stripped down version that forces you to pay, even once, for something that came with Windows 7 or 8, I'm in. But I'm very, very cautious because Microsoft has a long history of messing up windows launches and windows versions *cough* windows ME.
...0... Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 Those addons you must pay they cn shove that dark hole where light never shines. Ive none of these and you dont need one of these unless you dont care about privacy and let yourself eventua;lly screwed by all these companys windows 10 is enough it cost you nothing. Most of you always complain never pleased with anything bah:( Still i'll bet your ones who keep spending money on products they offer. In the 16 years i bought windows thats only money i ever spent on microsoft rest i use from freeware and organisations who don't ask money. Still long way before i have to deside gonne investigate little more what MS offers and if its scam?
Slammer64 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I've checked, the upgrade is free for the first 12 months, after that you have to buy a copy like we have in the past, however, they are NOT using a subscription basis, it's exactly what they said, free to users of Win 7, Win 8 and Win 8.1 for the first year.

Is their any major bug fixes in it that would explain microsoft giving it away for free? Considering peeps are still using win XP and below this could be a new strategy to try and get peeps to adopt if it does have security fixes in it.
Captain Cobra Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Yes, they want to prevent another repeat of the XP situation, but they're too late.
darksamus166 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Who in what way would wanna get windows 10, I mean atleast wait a few years or months.
gregathit Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Who in what way would wanna get windows 10, I mean atleast wait a few years or months. Exactly. Microcrap has made a habit of releasing a bug infested pile of shit with every release that I can remember. The free for a year think just makes my radar go into high alert, especially if they don't say what they are going to charge you for a permanent copy or WORSE if they try the fucking subscription crap like they are pushing with the 365 abomination. Fuck that noise. I am NOT EVER going to pay for a leased software. Especially as much as they are trying to charge. Edit: After reading the article I am more leary than ever: "Microsoft needs to lay seeds for its cloud-centric strategy and Windows 10 is the epicenter of that strategy. It's all about making it attractive for the ecosystem to upgrade onto this next-generation platform." FUCK THE CLOUD. I need a computer that REQUIRES the internet to access my files like I need a dump truck rammed up my ass. Let's make it easier for the MPAA and government to search all our files, cause their in the fucking cloud. NO! NO! NO! Conclusion (TLDR): I will NOT be upgrading to Win10 until I see the cost after the free year and a guarantee that there is no built-in mandatory cloud bullshit.
shirow Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Yeah! A pay-to-win(dows) I'm looking forward to get a good laugh about this.

No way i get windows 10 and cloud is something i can't avoid then no windows 10 for me EVER.
...0... Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Update: It seems there's still confusion. It is very clear from this post that for the first year it's available, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free if you have Windows 7 or 8. You will not pay for it. After that year is up, nothing will happen to your Windows 10 license. If you do not upgrade within that year, however, you will have to pay for an upgrade. The offer expires after a year, not the upgrade. This is from microsoft official, so it seems a real free upgrade if you have windows 7 or 8 and after a year it stay free nothing change you still have windows 10 and won't pay anything. They just adopted the apple system so all have same OS system on there devices. But cloud is different story that's still bit unclear but seems windows 10 is realy based on this and can't be avoided. This means for me no upgrade if thats true. Just funny link with free win10 upgrade and this article. Warning: Free is not free educate yourself so you spare yourself from a lot of troubles. http://www.howtogeek.com/207692/yes-every-freeware-download-site-is-serving-crapware-heres-the-proof/
windpl Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I'm more interested if there will be downgrade to w7. When they talk about cloud I already know that w10 will be shit because they push hard that in w8. You can disable it but you can't uninstallant it. It will be multi platform system, so no thanks I don't want phone OS on my pc.
Pkatt Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 If Directx 12 is not supported by win7, then I will be on win10. I like playing all these new games in all their glory. Right now enjoying the daylights out of playing DA:I and FC4 in ultra settings. I know people running win10 insider versions, and they like it. If I got a chance to grab it free, as opposed to paying later, I'll probably get it when its free.
joemonco Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 You can have local accounts on Windows 10 just like you can in 8.1.
Chaos63 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 There hasn't been a good upgrade since 7 so if this one tanks as well, that will be two consecutive failures. As much as I like to point and laugh at Microsoft, this will not do PC any favors. I hope they get their shit together.
RitualClarity Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Build a Gaming Computer.. play games. Use Windows 7, 8, 10, whatever and don't care about cloud etc. .. Then Get some reasonable hardware. Not expensive. ... use Linux, BSD and get productive and stay safe... Optional Be an Uber Geek Use Synergy and run both at the same time... Epic Win all the way Cool fact is you can retire your old gaming hardware for the Linux machine when you need to upgrade your gaming rig... Now that is cool, don't you think? Win/Win
Slammer64 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Better yet ritualclarity, lean how to set up dual-boot systems with Linux/BSD and Windows like I run, no need for any additional software, etc.
RitualClarity Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 You can't run them all at the same time that way .. lol. Off subject. What is the boot manager you use for that?
...0... Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Linux is bugged and very unsafe and its terible in patching that. Linux no thanks also bad for gaming still. Seems with all the info i have so far i stick with win8.1 for now, i won't have DX12 so be it, will prolly take 2-3 years anyway, before maybe games are DX12. But cloud uhgg...no way.
joemonco Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 use Linux, BSD and get productive and stay safe... I laughed. Especially with the remote vulnerability that glibc has given linux (how many routers, modems, phones, and tablets aren't going to get patched?) and freebsd-update still leaves systems in an unusable state when upgrading to 10.1.
