Well just installed windows 10 on my laptop which is not very importend at all only watch DVD's mainly before go to sleep hehe.

Was a smooth install from windows 7 home to windows 10 every thing works and seems not much has changed.

I disable almost everything so for me no cortana(ever) one drive or any sharing with M$HIT.

But for start back and how it all looks(removed almost all tiles in start fuck them seems nice a lot better then my windows 8.1 on my main rig.

I won't upgrade my main rig for while i must first learn more how windows 10 works and privacy.

But for short time i have windows 10 it seems very smooth and don't look bad(luckly can disable a lot with privacy and sharing).

Install upgrade from win7 to win10 and all work fine 9/10 very smooth no problems so far.

Might need to research the registry keys to do this. Only way to really be sure it is off permanently. An IT guy told me about that. He uses reg edits to be sure Windows is doing exactly what it is suppose to do when it is suppose to do and not accidentally turned on by users or other programs (for the most part. ). Too many times some update turned on something and caused him problems.

I'm just going to remove windows completely. I've been using linux for quite a while, and have gone this route before. I only started using windows again when I bought a new computer that came with 8. Hadn't used windows since about a year after xp came out. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to believe ms wouldn't put these new privacy invading practices into 7, 8 and 8.1. Goodbye microshit

All the things you may think you turned off during installation of Windows 10 may not be off.

Going into "settings"  "Privacy" everything I turned off during install was back on along with a ton of other privacy concerns.

all of which are now turned off, we'll see what that area looks like next time I log into windows 10.

thats true thats why i don't have windows 10 installed on my main PC i need to know alot more about privacy and how it developed. Watching special tech sites for it see whats going on.

I limit my emails to bare minimum and they content mostly useless crap anyway.

I am not registered to any social media have no smartphone and i don't visit supicious or filthty sites(like LL ;) )

I don't use google bing or any of those crap search engines.

I don't use cloud plus i have no photo of myslef anywhere on the internet.

I have HDD with have no private content of myself or anything i do.

My most open thing i do is maybe steam but its also meaningless just gaming.

My laptop don't matter i have all off now and use it only for some drm free game or watch a DVD i dont use it for bank matters or emails.

Windows 10 on local account and coratana plus cloud disabled as few examples.

Im not registered anywhere so have no concern about that also.

I know common cliché people asking is you must have something to hide but don't have to hide anything at all.

Privacy is just importend for me and no company or anybody dictates what i should do or not never have and never will, i rather quit PC and internet then put my whole life on internet or register somewhere because i must.

I know you can't avoid all like goverment know who you are.

But i try keep it all to bare minimum thats all.

I dunno if it was something in Win10 or not, but all of a sudden Visual Studio got a huge speed boost from my experience.

Overall in general, I'm happy with the win10 upgrade. Also finally got rid of that stupid border padding around all the windows, which imo would make it worth the upgrade alone lol.

My continued attempt to bring a little sanity (that isn't always a nice thing) to the public at large with regards to the "evil" Microsoft "overlords."

So far it appears that Microsoft went exactly where I thought they were going, very reminiscent of a shitty free to play micro-transaction hell. That's not to say I think Windows 10 is bad, but it's very well designed to capitalized (and I do mean money grabbing) on the ignorant // computer illiterate crowed.

I have done both the upgrade an existing Windows system and a clean install and a literally brand new HDD, and both worked just fine (A brand new install of 10 came with all the same problems as a brand new install of 8, fuck I hate the lobotomising of driver and dll support).

By and large, the GUI is acceptable as long as Windows 7 was acceptable for you. What few complaints I had with it vanished with the already up to date Classic Shell program. Multi-monitor support continuous to be flawless with Display Fusion (loving my steam license, although only because I felt the developer deserved the money, the free version was exactly what I wanted).

The "Seamless targeted, continuous, consistent advertisements" shared between apps is annoying, but is only shared between Microsoft approved apps (anything that came with Windows and anything acquired through the Microsoft app store). Third party non-affiliated programs continue to be just that, non-affiliated. Believe it or not, the attempt to stream-line the terms of service down to 45 pages is a HUGE improvement, and while I don't doubt a majority of people won't read it, any legal trouble that befalls them because of it I am unsympathetic because seriously, it's only 45 pages, you should read the American Affordable Health Care bill... jeez.

I continue to use Chrome as my browser simply because I have it set up exactly the way I want it, and those settings follow you from one install to the next. While that is very similar to what Windows is currently doing, it's shared only inside of Chrome and not passed to any other program. One of the weird things about Cortana is that in order to enable her if you wish to use it, You have to have a lot of the questionable privacy settings enabled. Also, your system language and your speech language pack have to be EXACTLY the same. My fresh install came default with English (American) as the default language, but English (United Kingdom) as the default speech language and that prevented Cortana from working... god only knows why. Cortana is also hard coded to use Bing, no matter what your default search engine is, although she will use your default browser, be it IE, Edge, or third party. I imagine it's possible to capture input and redirect it to use a different search engine, but I would be hard pressed to trust anyone who offered that as a service.

The jury is still out on whether or not disabling the privacy questionable settings really disables them. It appears on both of my installs that selecting no on the install leaves the setting disabled after install, although a user previously in this forum states that wasn't the case for them.

By and large, my personal recommendation to anyone that decides to use Windows 10 on a desktop is to treat it like it's a desktop. Do not use the "tablet-y" features like the app store, the default solitaire game (there is a reason I'm saying that), or Windows Live // Xbox (the pc program, not the console), and if you still hate the new start menu (like I do), get classic shell, it's free, and it's SO worth it.

As a complete and irrelevant side note, I like to occasionally turn tracking on, open the Edge browser, and look up weird ass porn just in case a human has to review these things in the early days because I like to fuck with people.

Nope, no one is looking on it, it is just statistic, and if you or your friend have windows phone it could go like this "Did you know vipermagi like butt sex with use of cucumber? Buy one now!"

All who shout evil M$ but use google(chrome)(even worse then M$) i laugh at you, your owned by another evil company.  Use edge or disable privacy so you can see porn just shows your lost and slave to M$.

Just saying.

If your against M$ you disable all and use alternatives that at least limited the sharing and tracking of your activities on the internet.

Sure it's not 100% proof but use M$ apps google-facebook and all the crap out there(this means they have your profiles on there clouds and goverment NSA orwhatever pay most can have your whole life) your lost give up you all ready gave up all your privacy so don't bullshit yourself) i'll bet most don't even use local account lol and just register to M$ windows live use there cloud and xbox live apps.

Also most of you use smartphones so your already followed and in all kinds of data bases anyway so give up most of you are owned by M$-GOOGLE-FACEBOOK and rest of evil(or your good and my evil ;) ) out there

There are plenty ways to have at least a decent privacy protection even when you use windows 10 and limited the way they can track you and collect data, but not way some describe here.

This is just one view on this matter it's not importend and if you think i don't care then ignore what i say it's not importend.

Linux is btw not the answer to be safe thats an illusion i'm supprised so many think it's safe heaven on the internet.

Feel free whatever you think is best  this was just another maybe bullshit opinion if so ignore it :P

I don't care too much about that stuff. I don't do anything "illegal" on the 'net, plus I live on a mountain (on a dead end road) and can defend myself under an situation. Screw the gub'ment!

What do you mean by importend? or did you just spell in important wrong on purpose?

Yeh sorry about that spelled it wrong dumb me.

But take out one sentence then this can be complete different meaning. Take whole reply it should be obvious what important mean.

Again if you don't have any concern about privacy and your whole life already on the internet anyway then my reply don't apply to you and is not important.

Probably all i say is not important just ignore me :D

I've tested Win10 (before main release) at work against a windows 7 and 8 computers (same specs other than OS) running simulations and stuff like that.

The Win10 would always finish first, people say it's about 15% faster somewhere on some testing thing on reddit.

Was not an attack and sure not personal one, you read the replies completely wrong.

It's a forum where you express your views i express my concerning privacy with windows 10 thats all you take it as a advice or not thats up to you i don't force you to take it as the truth.

If i warn about privacy violation by M$(if im wrong or right is not issue here) how can it be an attack you you or others ???

Take it or leave no big deal.

You won't be a outcast here..geez chill man.

Thank you for the laugh, I am a fan of some good satire. I will warn against Poe's Law, but that isn't your concern but other people.

Just in case someone missed a previous post of mine in this thread, I have been paid to be on the other side of the privacy concerns, I do know what goes on and what's possible. If anyone believes Mr. Funny here (you are actually funny, I had a good laugh), your sadly misinformed of what actually goes on. Yes, privacy is important, but "big bad government" isn't out to "get you." To be fair, unless there is a REASON they are interested in you specifically, just make sure your not an easy target and you'll be fine.

Now i feel safe good have some trust worthy person explain it all and also being called mister Funny.

Always glad to make some one laugh that makes me happy.

Glad you warned me i was misinformed, damn the internet  it's all deception lies and wrongly advice information damn damn ;)

For those who still think there is no privacy problem, well judge yourself if you agree or not.

Btw if you already installed windows 10 and not agree with some parts your to late already.

I like how you're whining about real time virus protection being a problem.

If Antivirus did not have so many false positives it would not be. However it does, and real-time protection can lead to a lot of lost files that do not have viruses.

We're not talking about Avast or AVG, we're talking about MSE/Windows Defender which doesn't have a problem with false-positives.

Yup, MSE and WD are fine programs. No issues with them and I've been using them (with Malwarebytes as a backup) for years. Never a single false positive.

Avast? Never had a problem with false positives with it.

The problem with MSE is that it sucks, and even MS acknolodges it is only developed for "baseline protection"

Of course if you're smart internet user, that is enough.

I'm not having any problems with it so far, all of my stuff is where I left it from Windows 8.1. The only thing I wish I could do is move or remove the Search/Cortana section of the taskbar.

Spoilers contain screenies of my desktop from Windows 8 and Windows 10.

So far the only negative thing I have about Windows 10 (aside from the whole privacy issue) is that if Skyrim or another game freezes rather than just CTD, when you alt-tab to close it, it won't close and the new program manager will not override Skyrim's window, so the only way to close Skyrim then is to restart your computer. Annoying as fuck, but fortunatley this doesn't happen often anymore.

I'm rather surprised at how well Win10 works once you manage to install it. Took me two days to get it on my SSD... It just wouldn't upgrade, always stuck copying files. Had to install fresh Win7 on another hdd, upgrade that to 10, extract the new serial key from registry and do a clean install on the SSD with the extracted serial. Pain in the ass...

Displayfusion works well for multiscreen but as someone who loves Vista's old Dreamscenes, I have to advertise Stardock Deskscapes too. It's 10 bucks but works decent enough and has very low cpu usage. Can be used to set different wallpaper on each screen. Some visual glitches though so try the trial first.

And yay it's still possible to recreate the good ol' quickstart on your taskbar :) Rainmeter works perfect too btw
