I hate the Skyrim hairstyles too, well actually they're not that bad - just lack physics, variety and half-decent meshing. But what I hate more than that is a choice few running around with Apachii and everyone else still rocking vanilla.

Hi sky_mds,

Thank you very much for your latest V 01e. It worked  fine. But new version V01f does not work at all. There is no Dialog option available from NPC. Nobody does anything. What is this?

Not related to this mod exactly, but could you make a version without SkyHair? Since I installed SkyHair I can't open the race menu anymore, and i HAVE Expired's Race Menu mod installed already. Every time I try to open the race menu the game either freezes or I get a CTD.

Well have to say, was really enjoying your mod, but will not update because of new dependency Apachi Sky Hair.

 

EDIT: Don't want to sound self entitled. I understand it is your mod, and you can make it anyway you choose. I just can't justify installing a hair mod just to run one mod.

I assume that Sky_Mds has rushed to go V01f too soon and missed something. All version from beginning upto v01e worked fine.

Thank you, hopefully this fixes the issue I was having.

 

I thought that MAYBE by downgrading to SkyHair 1.4 it might fix the problem; instead it just made the game crash from the opening menu. But hopefully this fixes the issue I was having initially.

You don't need precache killer with newer versions of RaceMenu.

 

I thought I had the latest version, it had been so long since I saw an update come out for it that I stopped looking. I guess I ll have to check that out.

Well have to say, was really enjoying your mod, but will not update because of new dependency Apachi Sky Hair.

 

EDIT: Don't want to sound self entitled. I understand it is your mod, and you can make it anyway you choose. I just can't justify installing a hair mod just to run one mod.

You do are aware that installing apachi would change literally nothing in your skyrim and the only NPC using it would be Thaena, unless you would make it otherwise?

You can even fire up CK and change her haircut yourself to whatever you like. You'll need apachi installed for that, but it doesn't even need to be enabled in skyrim.

Seriously i dont get it, why so much drama over single haircut?

 

For more serious matters - f version makes whole quest series run completely unpredictable.

Once i have no NPCs in the whole mansion, not even Thaena. Only animals are there - exept Thaenas dog (Baily?).

Other time Thaena and others are there but she doesnt offer any quest. 

Yet another time everything works as it should.

 

I loaded a save made long before you released 0.1 version, went there and there was no npc in the whole mansion exept animals in the basement.

Loaded different save of same character, just made few hours earlier, and everything worked as it should.

I don't get it.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to start some kind of argument, and I certainly didn't want to start "drama" :D. Like I said it's the authors mod he can do what ever he wants.

If a simple hair mod is enough to keep people from using this mod then they weren't all that interested in it to begin with, imo.

Worked out well after i gave a clean save and the troll animation worked flawlessly.  However, the spider went from the invitiation to the spider to being prompted to talk with the viewers without animation in between.  still, i think the in concept is a good one and overall am very impressed with your endevors. Good mod.

no drama just stating the facts and yea author can do what he/she wants and we are just asking politely if its possible not to include it.

Animal Mansion V01f seems to be working fine so far not find a bug yet . gonna mess with it more and see if i come across anything . as sometimes the troll works at the party for me other timers it does.

V01f is the best version for me so fr however I have noticed that when NPCs sit down, they don't stay seated. They simply stand abck up again. If they are suppose to be seated, they will keep trying. Switch off the mod and people do. And this is anywhere in the world. May not nessessarily be this mod as it might be conflicting with something else but I can only assume as the quests for characters to sit in seat. Who knows. Still, very pleased with this update!

I'm liking the new look and the new voice for the mansion owner, and the mansion or inn seems more lively now. But the bear quest seems to be bugged, I tried it twice, and both times after the fight with the bandits I talk to the bear and the dialog box pops up that allows you to tend to the bear's wounds but noting happens when I click on it. I noticed that if I saved, then quit to desk top, and then reloaded my save, or whenever I left and reentered the cave, the dialog options seemed to work; My character was able bandage the bear, and "reward the bear", but after the act nothing, nothing changed and the quest did not appear to advance (I'm assuming, as the way point was still pointing at the bear).

 

Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

I am a little surprised by the number of people who are against apachi hair. But then there certainly could be other options I am not aware of for improving hairstyles beyond vanilla. I see two possibilities for non-vanilla hair instead of apachi.

 

1) Probably the ideal solution if it exists: some source of redistributable hairstyles that modders can pack into their mods. This would allow for no external dependencies, and everyone should be happy. I just don't know if there are any quality hairs available with such generous licensing.

 

2) Depend on some other hair mod. There very well may be some other hair mod out there superior to apachi. The only ones I can think of are the physics enabled hairs, but that would then add in even more dependencies. Still I would certainly be interested to see other options, especially if they are so impressive that it leads people to dislike apachi.

 

As to the argument that all the NPCs would still be using vanilla hair, I have found a couple of mods on the nexus (don't have links handy unfortunately) that improve the looks of many NPCs, including giving them apachi hair. So at least for me it is more than just the PC sporting the improved hairstyles. Granted I am burning a couple of mod slots to improve the NPCs this way ... there are always tradeoffs.

 

I am not sure how difficult it would be to maintain two version, one with apachi, and one without. It might be as simple as keeping a working copy of the mod using vanilla, and then as a last step before publishing go in and add the apachi hair to create the apachi version. Then go back to the vanilla version for the next round of edits, and add apachi back again as the last step. Or it may be more painful, I am not a modder.

IMO there are better hair out there than apachi, but getting them might not be the easiest for everyone.

There are other smaller hair packs that exist within this forum.

 

I have apachi in my load order, it is mostly something I had left over just for the sake of completeness although there's still a few style in it that I use occasionally when I am making new test character who I am not too picky on how they look, but yet don't want vanilla.

But I understand why people might not like it, it is a fairly large mod in terms of size, it takes up a load order slot that some are running low on, it also bloats up the hair count when you create a character all for the sake of one NPC's hair.

 

However like I said, I already have apachi, so don't really care :P

Did a little quick testing with 0.1f, it's an excellent first mod but I found a few problems and I've got a couple ideas/suggestions.

 

Problems:

  • The Companion party event overwrites the NPC appearances. (At least the face, not sure about body.) I'm using a follower replacer mod and walking in and seeing the half-melted faces was a shock.
  • The Companion party event again, after talking to Aela, talking to some guests, talking to Aela again and Farkas doing his "Everyone sit down and shut up" routine, nothing happened. I stood on the quest marker and the animations wouldn't start or any dialogue option iwth the animals.
  • The quest to go get the bear won't start. The dialogue option works fine, but the quest itself doesn't work.
  • edit: Got the bear quest to start, but still had the no dialogues issue from other events.
  • I was only able to get shows for the horse and troll. The horse worked fine, but the troll still seems to be causing problems. There was no dialogue option with the animal.
  • A typo, during a show animation, one of the customer messages was an all caps message with "...GIVIT TO HER..." That should be "...give it to her..."

 

Suggestions/Ideas:

  • A little more interior decoration, the place is really sparse. Maybe an ongoing quest to "spruce" the place up? Like upgrading a player home (i.e. 500g for new rugs, 1000g for nice furniture, etc...) or a fetch quest. "Bring me 20 plates, 10 tankards, etc..."
  • Some exterior work is needed. There's plants in the walls and doorways. Maybe remove them and add a porch.
  • All the trees surrounding the place so well at hiding it from view, but it doesn't fit into the surroundings. There's like 10 trees total in whiterun province. Thin them out, turn them into the type of trees in the area, or move the building to a more forested area (falkreath, riften)?

Look, I of all people know the frustration of mod requirements rendering something I wanted unusable (fuck you, Arousal), but it's not like Apachii is adding an MCM menu you have to remember to disable or an active feature you have to remember or avoid. Literally the worst thing it does is add a bunch of ticks to your hair selection slider.

ANIMAL MANSION VERSION 0.1G

 

Didn't expect so much people to care about that minor detail like the hair. I still don't like the normal hairstyles but I can live with that. Wouldn't want to keep you from playing just because of the hair so I changed it back.

 

I also tried to fix some other things. Don't know if that worked.

I'll have to check it out. I never saw you respond to my post, but I noticed that you fixed everything I mentioned which is pretty awesome. Good job, man. You work fast.

 

Are you planning on adding support for Dawnguard creatures? I added a regular husky, an armored husky, and a death hound but I don't know how to script for Skyrim, so I didn't want to try to add them into the quests.

 

Another suggestion I have is adding a quest to have sex with Theana and Bailey. Maybe once she goes up to bed, she invites you and Bailey (I'm assuming he would go with her anyway) and you both have sex with Bailey and each other.

 

And as someone already suggested, you could have people start masturbating and the girls could be excited enough to fuck the animals after they see you do it. You could even have a couple of creatures in the room so you both could have sex at the same time.
