ElectricSheep Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Seriously, I have to quote Weebam-Na on this (0:05 - 0:08): Hate them! Hate them! Everyone! Gotta hunt them down and chop them all to bitssss! In late 90's I quite liked anime. Because there was Cowboy Fucking Bebop. Ghost in the Shell. Akira. Berserk. Vampire Hunter D. Even the first Hellsing TV series was quite good. But now I fuckig hate anime with passion. I would hunt down and chop to bitssssssssss everyone with anime avatar and/or signature (I either ignore or adblock them). Why is everything infested with this crap nowadays!? Why about 90% of adult mods cater to the gawaii crowd!? What's so appealing about little girls with big eyes!? Most of the popular anime series (like Naruto or One Shit) are for ppl below the emotional age of 10. I'm so sick of them weeaboos. Hate them! Hate them! Everyone!
Jeffrey Lane Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 always wondered, where did that term come from? it sounds like something they would make an 50s B-movie about... "Beware the Attack of the Weeaboos!" that reminds me, i need to watch some more anime, havent in a while..
gvman3670 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I'm kinda' old and have always hated anime. The artwork sucks, they draw white people to look like fems and the stories are downright horrible. Japanese culture freakin' sucks and so does most of the stuff that comes out of it.
...0... Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I just ignore it, but im no racist(as some are it seems) have nothing agains japanese and there culture, i just don't like anime at all, never did and never will.
hryh23k9823u Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Im not racist I thought this was a competition to see who can say the biggest shit~ And I don't even like anime o.o

Rayblue Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 BTDT. I don't hate it, but it just got terribly boring after '10. Nothing new but rehashed plot and boilerplate character designs. Now if you're specific about the fandom, well... I find the fandom rather difficult to get along with, and I feel more out of place than I was back then twenty years ago. The yellow press -- anywhere from Japan Times to Shitkaku Complex -- just made the fandom look more shitty than before, and they made Japan even more weirder than what is actually being depicted. To be honest, not everything in Japan is anime, manga and games (or ACG). There's more tasteful and mature aspects of Japanese culture that's terribly glossed over by shitty sensationalism. No big deal, you can pick up the old classics -- like Cowboy Bebop and anything up to '99 -- floating around somewhere. And if you want the ultimate manly anime -- try The Legend of Galactic Heroes. Or get your mind blown by Perfect Blue.
Gislo21 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I think there are 1,2 animes that are good but most is shit, true. For me, my last good anime was attack on titan, since then nothing. I've watched like 10 animes, and 6 of them were shit
Rayblue Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Let's go back to topic. These wannabes, sorry to say, have gotten themselves to the point where they have literally locked themselves into a fantasy world and longed to live in an idealistic world as depicted in the shows they watch. Unfortunately and in reality, if you ask any expatriate who have lived their for more than a year, these expats will tell you that they feel homesick, alienated, have to put up with high living expenses and a tough language and complex culture to learn and understand. The worse off are those who were called "weeaboos" have come there to try life in Japan as English-language instructors or the like, and they got the shock of reality, that the "ideal anime" Japan has been shattered (much like the Japanese who visit Paris with the visions -- or delusions -- of all French women walking in fashion designer clothes, only to find that they were overwhelmed with the reality check once they see the real Paris).
ElectricSheep Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 There were days when I considered anime a separate medium capable of telling a mature story (like "Grave of the Fireflies" e.g.), but it seems like since the end of 90's Japanese animation went downhill. It's difficult to pick any modern day anime that wouldn't be the same copy/paste, pseudo-intellectual and infantile crap about teenagers or college-aged emos. The same is true for Japanese games.
Captain Cobra Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 You can thank Lucky Star for the endless stream of slice-of-life bullshit that comes out today.
Rayblue Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 The problem is that the industry -- too many players in a very limited market -- is right now locked completely into a cycle with the fandom, which is their primary source of income (ditto with the extra earnings from the sale of licensed merchandise, live events and extras). The hooks are a familiar script, setting, character designs, etc. Anything to appeal the average fanboy with a seemingly infinitely disposable income... but they all wither in the ice storm of, say, Frozen. (Currently still the most popular and longest-running animated TV series in history is... Sazae-san. Because of the elderly population who have it turned in completely almost every time for years.) But this tendency for the least-common-denominator (is this also familiar with you when it comes to live-action television?) also stiffles innovation, quantity over quality, so I'm not surprised that the better stuff is found between the time Gundam got its first airing in the 70s to 1999... but even in those days, for every Akira or Bebop, there's a couple dozen or so B-titles that are often of laughable quality (and some of them have made their way into those VHS tapes, presented as "innovative exotic animation!" ).
Grumpf Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Well you're basically sick of hipsters and other wapanese. Anyone can understand that... Also, Japanese people themselves are probably sick of them too... You know everytime I'm in the US and I see a massacred french noun as a fancy restaurant or pub I feel the same as they probably do... Things like "conoisseurs" or "cologne" for male perfume disturbs a bit the grammar nazi that I am... On the other hand, we can all relax watching a good Studio Ghibli movie !!! Having seen anything since poppy hill, time for some catching up!
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Of course anime is going to be modeled especially for the otaku fanbase; who the fuck else would pay an equivalent of 200 USD for something like 10 episodes (if even that) of a series on disc? The problem is, when it gets licensed outside of Japan, it's in a much larger market and is seen by people who it is not designed for, so then everybody starts calling it out on its bullshit. At least tokusatsu can get away with more because they're not dependent on ratings and sales of the series, but rather the toys. But this also leads to things like a half decent show like Go-Busters being deemed a failure simply because it didn't move enough merchandise, while a show that has an overall lesser viewer base is a success because it sold more stuff. As for manga, a lot of the popular stuff is actually aimed at children in Japan. When it gets released here, it's usually aimed at an older audience; something like Bleach was not made for adults, which is why it's so easy for us to just rip it apart. You have to dig deep to get to the gold... but this is true of every kind of entertainment from every country. It's just that fans of Japanese stuff are more noisy than most, which is where a lot of the bullshit comes. But it's not really that different in Japan, where most people hate otaku anyway; if they hate their own, and given how xenophobic they are, they hate those in other countries a lot more than you ever could.
Neptune Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Recently, Ive been concerned by Japan as a whole for multiple reasons, not just this weebo culture. Like yourself, I found anime back in the 90s during the golden age, Patlabor and Macross, Venus Wars, A-ko and The Five Star Stories, blew my mind as a kid and young adult. But now, its clear Im not really aligned with Japanese culture at all as I thought I once was. Almost feel a little betrayed of a society I had once highly praised. The vast majority of anime that come out these days have fucking horrible, niave characters and often highly immoral and unjust situations and auittudes regarding gender equality, racism and class distinction - thropes stright out of the 1950s. I could understand these questionable plot elements if used sparringly. But infact the opposite is true. They are far to common to be a coincidence, an thus a pattern emerges. One that concerns me greatly, these are clearly accepted, and even expected aspects of the Japanese socitey. Initially I thought these questionable things in anime was limnited to the anime industry, but after some investigations it was obvious that the japanese culture as a whole has some searious issues. No Gaijin Allowed signs, popular Child Sex Rings, blatant Revolving Door Politics, very poor Anti-Discrimination Laws, the Fukushima Distaster Coverup, War Memorials of War Criminals and The Nanking Massacre denial. The list goes on.. Obviously every country has dirty laundry, but the point here is that the underlying problem Ive mentioned with anime, isnt just related to the anime culture. Its a symptom of the Japanese society as a whole. Its not the holy land that everyone makes it out to be. To believe as much makes you as Niave as the shitty wet-blanket protagonists in your modern day anime. I personally wouldnt mind visiting Japan on holiday, as Im not going to throw the baby out with the bath water - it clearly has good points aswell along with the bad. Great food, cool mecha things and beautiful women. But would I want to live there? Hell fucking no. I certainly wouldnt want my children living there either. I would sooner hang myself then be forced to live in such a stifling, emotionally cold, racist society still operating as if its the 1960s. This is speaking from a person whos lived in the US and UK - who obviously have pages of problems aswell, but I find it hard to imagine No Minority Allowed signs and Black Vans driving round blasting hate speech at forigners on the street, in public to be accepted for very long.. Nor would Germany be very popular if they had a war memorial for Joseph Goebbels, or if England let massive amounts of nuclear waste dump into the worlds oceans and not warn anyone for 3 fucking years. It boggles my mind how such behaviour is accepted in a supposedly 1st world country. And were the barbarians? Now South Korea, I would happily live there That bbq beef thing with the leaf looks mad tasty.
Rayblue Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Now South Korea, I would happily live there That bbq beef thing with the leaf looks mad tasty. ...and plastic surgery?
ZaZ Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Still Love "Berserk" and still read when a new Issue is released .
panthercom Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I went through a phase when I was heavily into anime; I actually started to get into it in my early 40's; so I wasn't some dumb kid. I enjoyed the bright colors and the cute girls, but I also enjoyed the more serious stuff too. Two things caused me to lose interest: one too many anime's opening with a shot of a Japanese high school, and a realization that Japan is a really alien culture with some particularly unsavory aspects that just didn't sit well with me. You can learn a lot about a society from looking at their porn...
ElectricSheep Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 Berserk is the exception that proves the rule; the only really good manga that I've read and still read, though it comes like one chapter per 5 months on average. I'm not much into Japanese culture, but what strikes me in their movies and games is how insanely over pored they are. And I don't even mean the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" level of pseudo-psychological nonsense; you can watch one of the Godzilla movies from 90's to learn some of the deepest life truths. As in American movies one can expect cheap pathos and cheesiness (especially if Mel Gibson is involved), in Japanese films it's this sullen, inflated tone and everyone taking themselves too seriously, which often comes the other way around. Then there are these weird, completely unexplainable themes, like in Sailor Moon: how is that some of the sailors were guys and girls at the same time!? (When I was 7 it gave me a lot of thinking.) But I digress. What annoys me, is that I have to deal with that desu desu shit whenever I go. Just enter the Nexis: it's fucking infested like the Rainforest. Heck, even loverslab is infested and 90% of the screenshots depict characters that look as if they jumped out of some retarded anime.
Skyrimfloo Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 A topic to shit over weeabo culture? Honestly, I'm not really that sick of anime & manga, as much as I am of the fanbase. I'm not a person with too high standards for literature. I still find many series enjoyable, and I still read and watch some that have turned for the worst because fuck it-it takes me 5 minutes to read it. I'm the kind of person who loves a good book or comic, but that would read Twilight or Naruto if there's nothing else just to kill some time. I love many series that have been released recently, like FMA, Eureka Seven, Ergo Proxy, even Accel World has a pass. But I simply can't stand the attitude of many people who deal in these matters. One thing that really grinds my gears is the subtitle/scanlation habit of many groups to keep the "kawaiidesufufufufufu-san" crap on the text. I understand that some terms are technically un-translate-able. But that doesn't mean that the meaning can't be carried over to the other language, it simply means that there isn't a direct word translation. I'm sick of all the -san, -chan and other monickers used after the names in the translations, as much as I am when people keep the "fufufu" laught and "kawaii" expressions in japanese just because they think it's cooler to do so.
hryh23k9823u Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I love Berserker and One Piece, one of the two best mangas I've ever read. Dunno about anime cause I've never cared about watching anime if there's a manga to read, and I dont think one is more mature or adult than the other, except for the tits and the gore. In fact, probably One Piece has more 'mature' elements behind the typical shonen adventure/battle story it is than berserk. One Piece isn't for emotionaly unmature persons, that's implying it is targeted for adults, but it's meant kids/teenagers, but if you don't have complexes and insecurities, it is like enjoying one of those pixar movies that are made for kids but there's always some stuff that can cause an adult some giggles. For me unmature or directly tard is call of duty or skyrim, games that treats you like you were dumb. Judging and calling pests the japanese culture because anime it's like saying germans likes scat or americans likes to believe the world is 8000 years old: a generalization. As far I know 'otaku' in japan is somewhat as pejorative as here 'freak' but concerning to anime. Liking (some) mangas, or videogames made in japan, doesn't make you a weeb but saying 'kyaaa' and all that crap and thinking everything coming from japan is inherently superior. Also, what's wrong with japanese videogames? Hello where have you been since 2005, video games sucks everywhere. But even then there are exceptions in both worlds like the witcher series (western) or dark souls (japanese).
gvman3670 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I spent a little while in Japan in the early 90s after the first Gulf War. A buddy of mine stayed there until a year ago. He was SOOOoooo happy to get back to the US, as were his Japanese wife and two half-Japanese kids. Ask them if Japanese culture isn't ass backwards and highly immoral, especially to those of the female gender. Oh well. Japan is dying off today anyway. There population is decreasing and their xenophobia is preventing an influx of capable people to allow them to progress. Too many Japanese marrying video game characters and stuff I guess.
BAB PEEG Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Did somebody say ANIMATION SHOW? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZzKAZODy2c
Oversette Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Honestly, I'm not really that sick of anime & manga, as much as I am of the fanbase. Pretty much this. I don't watch anime, but read lots of manga. There is a great variety of stories and themes and I'd take almost any manga over half of the western comics any day of the week. But don't get me started on the fans. They are the reason I stay the hell away of cons, stores and people in general. They are everywhere in my city and if I hear 'sugoi' one more time, you might hear of me in the newspaper. These guys are real pros at losing touch with reality.
