To OP,

 

What happened?   Moe.   Moe killed Japanese animation, or at least flooded the fuck out of the market and spawned so many shitty fans that you can't even ask for a decent anime recommendation without them bleating out some more of their moe crap. It's a fucking tragedy that beautiful series like Moribito get virtually ignored while trite garbage like Lucky Star gets it's nuts sucked by anime hipsters like it's the greatest thing ever.

 

Also, there's too much high-school shit out there. When I was actually in middle/high school, we had all kinds of great anime with adult protagonists. Now that I'm an adult, it's like pumping a dry well to find anything decent with adult characters or a decent storyline with any depth that doesn't turn into batshit insanity. I have to say I'm also a little disturbed at the amount of middle/high school students who end up having to fight evil. If animes were real, Japan would have more child soldiers than Somalia. One of the things that attracted me to anime as a kid was that it dealt with more complex issues, with more permanance, in a more mature fashion. I kind of expected that trend to continue and for the medium to grow up with me. Except it hasn't. Shit, half the time all the "bad guys" are just bad guys because reasons, and they end up helping the good guys to fight some universal evil and rely on the power of friendship and hope and love to create a deus ex miracle to magically save everybody. I'm not exactly expecting Dostoyevsky here, but fucking try for fuck sake. 

 

Also also, the Hellsing TV show was pretty bad, especially after they ran out of source matieral and had to wing it with that generic "Incognito"... thing... who was also bad just because reasons, for the sake of some "all flash and no substance" showdown that just left the whole damn plot hanging right where it began. No plot development. No character development. Nothing. Alucard was just a two dimensional object that existed solely to fight more powerful enemies. The Ultimate series was much better... even if only for the final showdown with Anderson, which actually developed Alucards character as a pained and tormented creature who was seeking conflict to find death and absolution for the weaknesses that lead him to that point. It's not great.. but shit, at least it's something.

 

About the only thing that'll solve this is to rewatch the old stuff, or if you don't mind being hard to watch... Legends of Galactic Heroes.

 

On either side of the ocean, both industries have gone to completely merchandise the hell out of it, to milk almost every rehashed cliche, and buy the rights to a manga or light novel that I haven't even read before. It's a game of least-common-denominator.

 

Once in a while something like Kill la Kill breaks the monotony, but for the most part we're forced to comb through the shite (just like we have to sort through the smut and find a real gem that keeps us rock hard).

 

But let's back to topic again. Like why I am not going to be like the imaginary poseur (also a meme; his wife said that some anon stole his pic from a website and appropriated him as the typical kimono-wearing weeb) as seen in this pic:

just to go back to the original post i got into a heated verbal match  with my housemate on " WHO WOULD WIN". His favourite naruto char and iI had to choose on from the same type of action anime so naturally I choose Vegeta who has the ability to destroy planets and such fourth. Well this de-volve unfortunatly in to me watching naruto needless to say i aint a huge fan of 2000's anime's (devil may cry im looking at you grrrr) but there are some good ones

You're eyes are probably bleeding this manga is so... I'm just going to finish naruto because I started it a long time ago and I'll finish it because I was way to far into the story to not finish. I would not start a manga like this one now.

Of course anime is going to be modeled especially for the otaku fanbase; who the fuck else would pay an equivalent of 200 USD for something like 10 episodes (if even that) of a series on disc? The problem is, when it gets licensed outside of Japan, it's in a much larger market and is seen by people who it is not designed for, so then everybody starts calling it out on its bullshit.

 

At least tokusatsu can get away with more because they're not dependent on ratings and sales of the series, but rather the toys. But this also leads to things like a half decent show like Go-Busters being deemed a failure simply because it didn't move enough merchandise, while a show that has an overall lesser viewer base is a success because it sold more stuff.

 

As for manga, a lot of the popular stuff is actually aimed at children in Japan. When it gets released here, it's usually aimed at an older audience; something like Bleach was not made for adults, which is why it's so easy for us to just rip it apart.

 

You have to dig deep to get to the gold... but this is true of every kind of entertainment from every country. It's just that fans of Japanese stuff are more noisy than most, which is where a lot of the bullshit comes. But it's not really that different in Japan, where most people hate otaku anyway; if they hate their own, and given how xenophobic they are, they hate those in other countries a lot more than you ever could.

 

Bleach is aimed at children? I wouldn't hate it as much if that were true but the level of huge half naked tits and blood makes me think other wise. It's like saying Conan the Barbarian is for children. Just saying it doesn't remove all of the non-scholastic subject matter lol.

 

PS: Bleach is shit.

I could care less if the fanbase had boobies growing out of their faces, I don't really pay attention to the fans, I just watch things, sometimes I laugh at em, Like I do with Evangelion, cause it takes itself so seriously, so I laugh at it.

I fully understand the disdain for smelly neckbeards basement dwellers who suck regardless of their activities, but people who say anime is for kids and then go on to watch pixar movies really irks me, oh is it also a waste of time? So is sitting your fat ass in front of the TV watching opera and Idols for 5 hours while you eat cheetos and piss glucose.

If you're an American you should know full well that Asians don't assimilate into Western Culture and prefer to form their own little hell holes to hide away in. And Japan is THE most xenophobic place on Earth. Ever see their immigration policies?

That first sentence must be the most ironic statement I've seen on this topic and I would be inclined to believe that you aren't being entirely serious.

 

I spent a little while in Japan in the early 90s after the first Gulf War. A buddy of mine stayed there until a year ago. He was SOOOoooo happy to get back to the US, as were his Japanese wife and two half-Japanese kids. Ask them if Japanese culture isn't ass backwards and highly immoral, especially to those of the female gender.

 

Oh well. Japan is dying off today anyway. There population is decreasing and their xenophobia is preventing an influx of capable people to allow them to progress. Too many Japanese marrying video game characters and stuff I guess. :lol:

I might be wrong but I thought that a large factor was due to prioritizing success in careers, therefore moving marriage down as a lower objective (for both genders). Saw some details about a service similar to escorts that was being more widely used. Nevertheless, I thought that Japan was still more right-wing/conservative in nature, with censorship and everything as opposed to the US, and that the anime sub-culture was still a minority, like furry in the West.

 

Seems like this is becoming one those ironic, derailed topics that someone pointed out though.

In late 90's I quite liked anime. Because there was Cowboy Fucking Bebop. Ghost in the Shell. Akira. Berserk. Vampire Hunter D. Even the first Hellsing TV series was quite good. But now I fuckig hate anime with passion. I would hunt down and chop to bitssssssssss everyone with anime avatar and/or signature (I either ignore or adblock them). Why is everything infested with this crap nowadays!? Why about 90% of adult mods cater to the gawaii crowd!? What's so appealing about little girls with big eyes!? Most of the popular anime series (like Naruto or One Shit) are for ppl below the emotional age of 10. I'm so sick of them weeaboos. Hate them! Hate them! Everyone!

You need to watch JoJo or Fist of the North Star. Or Space Dandy. Or Darker Than Black. There's so much anime out there that isn't shitty kawaii desu slice-of-life bullshit.

 

I like JoJo because it has a distinct early 80's/late 90's feel to it. The manga series is from the 80's but they've just started on the anime so it's kind of nostalgic.
