Why ? Thanks to the Fanbase. Do I have to explain that ? No ? Good. I don't care about the weeaboos thing and didn't even heard about this before seeing this topic. This is the same as movies! Some are bad, some are good, a lot of fan saying this film is *da best*. Here's how it works: 1: Anime gets Hyped 2: Anime gets a fanbase 3: Said fanbase tells everyone it's the same thing as cocaine 4: Hear that shit 24/7 5: Watch said Anime 6: Realize it's not even that good and it's just really overhyped 7: Repeat step 4 over and over 8: Puke That could be said about games too. I also love the Japanese culture - NOT the anime culture (though I like some of it), I am talking about Japan itself. I lived there for two years and loved every minute of it. Most Japanese people I lived around considered me a friend, but not all since I didn't get to know everybody I lived amongst. There is the minority that ride around those black vans, but they are just that - a minority. I am not a weeaboo, which really is only a term used by those who don't know what else to call those who love Japanese things too much. I do love all things Japanese, but I also love a lot of my own culture (I was born in Australia - 3rd generation). I watch US movies, UK movies and Japanese movies. But I can read, write and speak Japanese, so why not make use of this ability? I can respect other people's opinions, but don't mistake me as someone who will freak out if you say I am too into one particular thing. I love collecting and watching anime-related goods, but I haven't watched a new anime since Railgun 2, and before that I hadn't watched much...anyway, I will do what I like while still watching Frozen or not being able to wait for the next great US movie (if they're even coming =P) Anyway, just had to say my bit. But please don't generalize these things. Some people are multicultural, that is all...

Gotta hunt them down and chop them all to bitssss! In late 90's I quite liked anime. Because there was Cowboy Fucking Bebop. Ghost in the Shell. Akira. Berserk. Vampire Hunter D. Even the first Hellsing TV series was quite good. But now I fuckig hate anime with passion. I would hunt down and chop to bitssssssssss everyone with anime avatar and/or signature (I either ignore or adblock them). Why is everything infested with this crap nowadays!? Why about 90% of adult mods cater to the gawaii crowd!? What's so appealing about little girls with big eyes!? Most of the popular anime series (like Naruto or One Shit) are for ppl below the emotional age of 10. I'm so sick of them weeaboos. Hate them! Hate them! Everyone! hey I agree with you. I always found the gawaii aspect a little disturbing; a lot of them are borderline pedophilia were it not for the over-sized breasts that are attached to them. Now I'm a sucker for a pretty face and love beautiful eyes but not when they're the size of dinner plates cause then I think, "so how is your cousin the Grey Alien doing?" Take for example the original Elin mod for Skyrim; it was okay but a lot of the alts I made were normal sized eyes. You can imagine my squeal of joy when the author came out with a normal eye version of it. I just liked the idea of making a super-thief that's very small in height. Now I'm a big Helsing, Triggun and Evangelion fan because I find the stories compelling. I do wish for some actual actors for movie plots though instead of anime. Anime has its place but I'm not a huge fan of it. It's interesting to watch but when it starts going the hentai route I have chew back my lunch and go watch some real porn on Redtube or Pornhub just to get the taste out of my mouth >.<

I hate Pewdiepie but you don't see me going to his videos and calling him a dumb piece of shit then coming over here and calling him a dumb piece of shit again because people here may share my sentiment. I dislike a lot of things but I keep it to myself and people are happier that way. I'm happier that way.I used to be just like OP getting angry at everything. By "used to be" I mean a few months ago. Then I realised "Hey... this person shoving their beliefs/anime/opinions down my throat is only on the internet... I can block them if they don't shut up." Once I had this epiphany I was like "Holy shit. I could be so much happier."And now I am. [long sigh of relief here] Good stuff.

That changed when she discovered anime. She ruined her talent to try to be a manga writer, stopped going outside because she watched so much anime. She became defensive, obnoxious and arrogant because she had this thing she was interested in. I was into it too, I watched anime, read manga, drew it from time to time when I was bored to compose any decent drawings. Her skin became greasy, she became fat, stopped trying to look even slightly decent in public and she of course became a feminist that believed that make up was wrong (because it's not like japanese women wear make up right? PSHT). I still tried to be her friend because we had similar interests, she tried learning japanese by watching anime alone and soon started incorporating it into her normal conversation like some sort of immigrant from japan. We are no longer friends because I could no longer stand the person she became, she had a nasty temper and was basically 'addicted' to the culture, whilst degrading her own. She didn't eat or drink anything english, she would openly say that both tea and coffee are 'disgusting things nobody should be drinking' and english food was inferior and fattening. She moans about her family all of the time when she herself is just as bad, if not worse of a person than them. My own family has their problems, but I can admit that I have massive flaws too. She couldn't admit to her faults, believing in her own self-righteous way that she is perfect, with her badly drawn manga and her yaoi flooded my documents folder. I went out with her for a little while, but I couldn't even make it a month with her. She never even let me kiss her because she thinks that dating should be as slow as SHE wants, not thinking about her partner. Weeaboos destroy themselves and their whole family to be that person. They don't care about anybody else about themselves. I've met A LOT of them over the years doing what I do. I've met dozens of graphic designers who also 'try to make it as a mangaka' and spectacularly fail. They're all arseholes, the lot of them. Arrogant and self-important, nothing matters to them except the japanese culture and trying to live it for real. None of them ever make it to japan because they can't fluently speak japanese because they don't actually bother to learn the language properly, and they don't have any connections to move there. They stay single for so long because thinking like a japanese person, they assume dating is awkward and slow, like a japanese courting ritual. They often have low sex drives, yet overdose on hentai and pornography.

People are influenced by a lot of things but to think that someone can change this way, because of a show, an anime, a game, a film or even a person. That's surprising and also despairing. People should be proud of their own cultural identity, not appropriating someone else's. I had a friend like that. Now he's into that pony stuff, and I stay far, far away from him.

I know, I respect Japan for a lot of reasons, but like any country, and contrary to what weeaboos believe, they aren't perfect, and they are notoriously xenophobic. I don't care if someone likes anime, even if they are obsessed with it, but I can't stand the people who just think japan and everything japanese is superior in every way. And just because they aren't from that country, people give them a free pass on this blatant racism. But it's not only that, they are just as insulting to the very culture they fetishize. They think of the japanese as these magical fairy people who come home from work at the anime factory and live in a weird music video every day. They're just people, like everyone else, and any show or book or movie they make isn't automatically better than any american show or book or movie by default of it being japanese.

The Japs won't accept you as a resident unless you have an apartment and job lined up as soon as you arrive. They like continuity and reliability; even unemployment is very low there. There's a youtuber with the account lukemorse1 who successfully emigrated to japan. He knows the language, has a good job as someone who fixes computers, video games consoles, networking equipment, all sorts. He explained the pros and cons of living there and how is the best way to do so; it's very insightful if you're planning to move there someday. The bottom line is that the japanese are still pretty xenophobic and the don't accept outsiders unless you are sorted in everyway; job, apartment, documents etc. Even then there's some luck involved.

I didn't used to have a big problem with anime/manga, but even then I liked my series to have an ending. Open and shut 30~ish episodes/chapters. Cowboy Bebop is still one of my top 5s. I tapered off because I've noticed annoying patterns the more I watched/read. Nevermind the tentacles, and nevermind all the goddamn shows/books that are 1000 chapters/episodes long and counting (Bleach/Naruto/Etc), what got to me was all the incessant cliches such as: "My name is [****], I'm a 'typical' high school student/teacher (read: complete fucking pussy), when suddenly one day: * Has some girl crash into his apartment and land crotch first into his face, eventually roping him into some crap about "destiny" * has a BEVVY of gorgeous women who fall in love with him for NO GODDAMN REASON WHATSOEVER, despite their supposed distaste for him (Tsunderes i think?) * Gets some magical curse involving a litany of pervy accidents, underage panties, and nosebleeds [sakura or whatever] "Don't be ridiculous! I would never have feelings for such a fool like [****]! Don't say such things!" [Harumiorwwhatever] *Goes on some diatribe about strings of fate or something* [****] Trips and lands on Kasumiorwhatever's boobs* [someChickorwhatever] "BAKAAAAA!!!" [****] Gets punched and nosebleeds into the vacuum of space* I just can't do it anymore. I know not all anime/manga has tropes like this, and I know there's good ones out there, but I just don't have the patience to sift through all the cookie cutter crap anymore. Forgodsake an "indirect kissu" is a thing. I don't know if Japan's actual culture has lame faux-pas like that, but I doubt it's a good idea to use their anime to make that call. That's me giving them the benefit of the doubt here...

Yeah, one piece is hitting 1000 chapters soon, but think about how long each comic book series is - Spiderman, Xmen, Fantastic Four and even the obscure crap that very few people read or collect. I think they're both just as bad. Comic book geeks are also xenophobic prats in my opinions who have more in common with weeaboos than they care to admit. Cosplaying for example. People cosplay as a comic book character "it's geeky, it's uncool, nerd blah blah". People cosplaying as anime/manga character "it's art, it's awesome", despite being exactly the same circumstances. No, they're both just as bad. We might spend a little too much time playing Skyrim on here, but these people live and breathe the cultures more than they will care about their own cultures that they were raised in. We can stop playing our modded fantasy games and go to work, go to the coffee shop or whatever; these people will go to great lengths to be with their obsession.
