ds64 Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Koe no Katachi/ A silent voice finally got an anime adaptation...A ticket for feels train please.... and the manga just finished today...oh my... one of the best slice of life manga that I ever read....I just copied the plot from wikipedia:The story revolves around Shōko Nishimiya, an elementary school student who has impaired hearing. She transfers into a new school, where she is bullied by her classmates. Shouya Ishida, one of the bullies, goes to the point that she transfers to another school. As a result, he is ostracized and bullied himself, with no friends to speak of and no plans for the future. Years later, he sets himself on a path to redemption.

Already follow them I prefer Another (the sequel) over the original. They're so good, so many feels and heart strings being pulled there.

Great manga; I agree, it's one of the best slice of life manga in years. Really well written with realistic characters that you empathise with.
FetishSergal Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 If you guys like something non-action and non-fantasy, there is this semi-fiction story about a bizarre love triangle, but I would recommend the manga first as the anime is incomplete and the style of the anime might not be everyones cup of tee, it's called Aku No Hana (Flowers of Evil) I loved it because it portrayed nonstereotypical japanese school life and had absolutely no clichés, I was amazed, really refresihing considering that most anime made now is a bunch of nonsense packed with the usual shit. It's funny because the japanese watchers thought it was a shitty show because the characters weren't in "anime-style" bright-eyed moe style, but actual looking japanese, albeit in animation but you get my point. From my recollection. I didn't watch it, but I heard it was pretty messed up. I read a lot of the manga, it IS pretty messed up. I've read all the manga and watched the anime, amazing and messed up, I love how they portray reality as something fascinating, it was actually more enjoyable for me than most part of Kuroshitsuji (I love Kuro, but it feels too slow for me, it doesn't build up hardly any tension either until you're in the middle of it, otherwise it's quite cool when it gets to the good parts) Yeah plenty of Japanese didn't like it, but a quote from Ghibli: "The problem with anime is that too many anime makers are anime fans" Which could be interpreted as why there is so much self-perpetuating tropes and clichés in typical anime. I also recommend Berserk but people have already recommended it, as well as Lodoss and other stuff by Group SNE. I wanted to recommend a short i've watched called Ritoru Witchi Akademia, very cute style of anime with an interesting plot, but too short and unfortunately there isn't any series to follow, just that one episode :c
LaEspada Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Been listening to some Piano compisitions of anime openings and ending songs, many of htem sound great as piano works! My favorite youtuber who does this is Animenz, you can find him here! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyW-leqPXUunrXXxFjpZ7VA
ds64 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I just found this... http://animatorexpo.com/mememe/ I like the song, but the animation... LOL
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 So that new DBZ movie where Frieza is wished back to life. How in THE FUCK is this supposed to work, especially since it takes place after Battle of Gods? I mean, remember when in Fusion Reborn, where base form teen Gohan took him out in one shot him? Yeah, that would be the case, only this time it would be Goten or something stupid doing it. Then there's the fact that he was dead for well over a decade at this point; the dragon balls wouldn't work on him!
Angrybird Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I didn't even know DBZ was still a thing.
Darkwisdom Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I didn't even know DBZ was still a thing. They're only making movies because it's still a cash cow; all of the fans will buy it, no matter how terrible it is. Battle of Gods was pretty nonsensical, even for DBZ.
nooyd Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Is there anything actually worth watching in this current season?
Angrybird Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Fall season? I quite like Log Horizon, Madan no Ou to Vanaris has the pseudo warfare and politics, there's some more but I just read the manga. http://anichart.net/fallhere
LaEspada Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Is there anything actually worth watching in this current season? Kokkuri-san is pretty hilarious Grisaia no Kajitsu is pretty neat Kiseijuu is a must see Psycho-Pass 2 if you liked the first season. Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis is awesome, it's got a pirates of the carribean feel to it especially during the beginning. And Angrybird above me said as well
Kpnut Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Is there anything actually worth watching in this current season? Can't really recommend anything other than mecha, you've got Cross Ange (it has lesbians in it, but I'm watching it purely for /m/'s reaction) and Argevollen which is what gundam used to be before they introduced bullshit space magic (and not the bullshit space magic from the newtypes, the bullshit space magic in the form of whatever the fuck that thing from AGE was) other than that, I got nothin' and I'm pretty much just watching older stuff while I wait for those 2 to update. Also forgot to mention Garo, although I've not payed attention to the story I've just been drooling over the Makai Knights' armours and swords.
mkprovince Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Oh, good lord... my friend urged me to watch an anime series called "Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shirana". I knew of that anime but was never really interested in watching back then. Finished it just now and I'm swimming in my own tears! Damn, that's the second anime I watched this couple of years that had me crying like that; the first being Casshern Sin...

Although I only watched true tears and chrono crusade (both the manga and anime), I don't want another feels train... I've already watched the ones highlighted. Heck, I first got the emotional nuke when I watched Grave of Fireflies when I just reached secondary school because that nut-job of a teacher thought it would be nice education. Couldn't sleep for three nights straight because I would always remember the dying sister every time I closed my eyes back then. Clannad is another one that's heavy in the mood department because I played the game before the anime. Pretty much the worst mistake I made back then. True Tears is mild in comparison to the others and Angel Beats at least let you have a bit more hope in the end. For my all time favourite in the trainwreck mood department... I would vote for "Air". The anime really lets the mood crash land in the deepest trench in the ocean.

Angrybird Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Surprisingly I also saw Grave of the Fireflies in school in French class, isn't there even a nuke at some point? Jesus never going to re-watch that.

I may be missing a point somewhere, but...why do people watch these ultra-sad animes for? Some are forced down my throat to begin with. Kind of hard to argue with your teacher when your school marks hung in the balance. He may have some point of not letting us watch the factual documentaries because we don't really understand most of it but hell, he ALWAYS chose the sad anime or cartoons for us to write a review of. Even watched The Last Unicorn and damn... Only watched four titles but that really sinked my school year to hell. As for Clannad and all its franchise, I got the first serial (after playing the game) from a second-hand shop and enjoyed, though not exactly smiling, at the happier ending... until the movie hit the store. As for True Tears, I watched that because there's really nothing else that caught my attention at the store back then but at least the story is more mature sad than those gut wrenching type. Don't quite remember why I got Angel Beats but it's pretty much the same as True Tears... there's nothing interesting in store. Started with a good laugh but since I watched it after having some time with the more mature anime in the past, the fear cropped up pretty fast. A bit philosophical but a good watch nonetheless. The sad part is really at the "graduation" and the part following after. As for "Air". Don't know what crazies possessed me back then cause I actively searched for the anime when I heard about it and bought it the first chance I got.
ds64 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 It's based on a toku show, I honestly can't tell you much other than it has badass armour and swords. Yeah, I know about them, because I always following action figures news, and they have many awesome figurines. I've already watched the ones highlighted. Heck, I first got the emotional nuke when I watched Grave of Fireflies when I just reached secondary school because that nut-job of a teacher thought it would be nice education. Couldn't sleep for three nights straight because I would always remember the dying sister every time I closed my eyes back then. then try to watch those chrno crusade and 5cm per seconds. Chrno (or sometimes Chrono) crusade is quite good, it has fantasy and historical genre, and the anime and manga has a different ending, although I prefer the manga rather than the anime ending. It's already few years since I last read it, and I still hate that ending soo much (same hate with code geass ending). And yes... It has a sad ending... About 5cm per second, I haven't watched it yet, but I think it's story quite realistic though. (and yes... I hate realistic ending... there are already too much shit happen in RL.) Some are forced down my throat to begin with. Kind of hard to argue with your teacher when your school marks hung in the balance. Air just felt like getting consecutively kicked in the kidneys and feeling depressed for half a week later. I guess I just don't like anime that takes my mood down 50 points, y'know?
mkprovince Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 wait.. your teacher tell you to watch anime??? holy... that was awesome teacher.... most teacher in my country is like "cartoon is for kids" (yes, they always though everything about 2D animation is cartoon) It's one thing to be told that you can watch anime in school and it's another matter when the anime you watch is going to cause a massive trainwreck to your mood. Moreover, I'm supposed to write a review of it! That means I have to remember everything in perfect details for days to come in order to write one. Awesome? Don't think so when those things keep you awake at night... Only watched Angel Beats and Air out of the bunch myself, don't plan on ever changing that either. At the very least, Angel Beats had heartwarming moments and fantastic music. Air just felt like getting consecutively kicked in the kidneys and feeling depressed for half a week later. I guess I just don't like anime that takes my mood down 50 points, y'know? The feeling is mutual. At least I can have a defense set up if I know up front but that doesn't really help much for some like "Air". The anime actually managed to beat up my mood thirty times worse than playing the game because you're not watching a slide like in the game. You're watching all the sadness in its full blown glory. Never had the more immediate need to nuke those monks in the anime in my entire life up till that point.
