Did anyone get to a situation where the marker for 'Payback is a bitch' doesn't point to the Thugs location at all?

The marker I have now takes me to a random side of a road. There are two bandits strongholds and a giant camp in the overall vicinity, so I will assume I should clear them first in search of the Thugs.

Any suggestion for a more reliable way to track these guys?

Yesterday I played "Payback's a Bitch" for the first time and I had the same problem. After the thugs delivered my char to their client and I escaped him, I had the quest, but no marker. Instead my marker pointed to the quest below. Even after deactivation all quests my compass still showed that wrong quest marker. So there is definitely a problem with this quest marker.

Or maybe not. The thugs walk to their hideout, so the quest marker could have still pointed to one of them, moving around.
Don't know what happans if the thugs die before you reach them, but i hope your stuff will be/was moved to the chest.

i finished this quest multiple times now and no problem at all ... except autopilot and stairs. Hrmph...

But missing quest markers is something i encountered as well. What quest marker isn't showing up, is pretty random.
Can be mod quests or vanilla quests. Atm i'm updating my mod archive as i think it was a mod conflict (pure vanilla, quest markers work just fine).

Mod archive #316 and no end in sight. -.- Will know more when i'm done.

Thanks. Was having the same crash problem every save/rest/sleep but not the spriggan problem.

Diactivated then uninstalled mod, FNIS, export scripts from BSA & now it continues to work.

Never got a overight message so not sure which script it still requires.

I use NMM for every mod it can handle.

clearinvalidregistrations & player.removeallitems & sledgehammer did nothing for me.

Didint work, due to a running quest and a faulty script. Didn't think of this possibility as i never encountered such a problem. Using NMM too.

Reinstalled, reactivated, danced, deactivated, uninstalled SD and still crashes withouth scripts from BSA.

Was able to narrow it down. Have deleated all the scripts from the BSA except for _sdqs_functions.pex & _sdqs_sprigganslave.pex

without which it 100% won't allow me to Save/Rest/Wait without crashing. Works fine with these. Weird... but thanks for the workaround tip.

(faught matron from SkyrimMonsterMod but was never caught by any spriggans)

CGI, you remember when I told you whippings weren't working? I think I may be missing a ZaZ Anim, or FNIS could maybe be hatin'...here it is:

Before I get the obvious answer, YES I know about the error, NO I didn't have this mod (Kiss Cat Crawl and Sprint, or something) active any of the other times I posted, and YES, this problem occured before it anyway, and I bitched about it a million times. Now I think I'm missing one, or even two anims(maybe?), because there are those that work perfectly in every way (many, even the whippings) every time. It's like a misfire. Sooo...what's up with that?

Disregard the warning. It's not the problem.

i got absolutly no clue what's goin on in your case.
i went thru alot of trouble as ell, getting everything to work and managed to do so.
As all error sources i know where already covered, i'm out of guesses in your case.

Did you check the threads of Prison Overhaul and Xaz Animation Pack, to see if someone postet the same error?

Maybe you're lucky, because as far as i have noticed, clipping can mess with animations as well. Like being to close to a wall, tree, bird, someone or whatever. You name it.

I was taken on a lo-o-o-o-ong-ass march by some hired thugs from my homestead near Falkreach to Mistveil Keep where I'd been informed I was supposed to be sold to pay off something I stole somewhere.  But, when we finally reached Mistveil Keep, the whole place just attacked me, relentlessly, as my "master" walked along oblivious to the situation.  Rather than being invulnerable to damage, I just died.  So, long, long trudge, no resolution.

Will be streaming this on twitch.tv . www.twitch.tv/belchen

I"m in the mature section so you will have to log in to view live. You'll need an account.

Lets see if I can get banned from Twitch. mahahah

......................edit

LoL, didn't get banned. Had to stop after the first encounter. If I were to do it again on twitch, i'd have to set a password and only do it for LL people.

Are you sure you installed last version? What you say was normal a few versions ago.

What I installed was the SD.2013.05.05.01.Final.7z file... it looked pretty "final."  Moreover, it didn't appear that I had any other options.

P.S.  I hope that this can eventually be resolved and-- if so-- it won't matter that I had to kill those thugs outside my house.

is the thug destination random or selected when the quest begin(when stole the item) because my character always got sent to mistveil keep.

Depends. See, I killed the person I slole from right away, as it was an enemy I snuck up on. That must have set the offended target right away, before I killed her, so the thugs took me to Mistwatch. I did a test run and killed the thugs 1st to see who put the bounty on me, then loaded and "lost". I'm pretty sure you'll be sent to the offended person if they're still alive, but it may also depend on how far they are from your current position. I may be wrong, as I have only followed through with the whole thugs quest once all the way through. btw, don't get enslaved by the thugs when you're with you're wife (in my case) or follower. It won't end well.

I was going to post about that yesterday but the forum was down when I tried.

That's exactly what happened!

I eventually moved myself to the thug but it wouldn't appear.

I had to first resurrect him, then wait for a couple of game hours to let him reach his destination and voila... he was indeed in Solstheim.

Unfortunately, I also found out that my tinkering with the thugs sequence left him without most of my stuff - including Dawnbreaker and the Wabbajack... I had to scrap that whole play time and start over back to the thugs attack.

I ended up chaging the mechanics of the Thugs a bit to make sure my items were in a reliable place.

Now on enslavement from thugs, I am whisked away directly to the new master in Mistwatch. My items are all in a chest there - locked chest to make it worth finding a lockpick for.

Seems to be working so far.

The chained walk to Mistwatch is fun once or twice... but between auto-pilot issues with stairs and rocks, and frost / food issues from the other mods I am playing with, that wasn't all that fun in the end.

Now the escape... that is fun :)

During my troubleshooting, I spotted how the drop off location was selected initially - it is a random bandit lair with a boss type chest... could be in Solstheim or anywhere else defined by your mods actually.

Yes - the selction of the new boss goes something like this:

You will be sent to:

- the original owner of the items you stole if he is alive and in the same hold as you are currently

- a guard if you are already in jail (possibly... I didn't test that one)

- or a new master in Mistwatch

Does the owner have to be in one of the faction listed on the first page? Because my character got enslaved at karthwasten twice for stealing from citizen of markarth and always sent to mistveil

Getting a little pissed off with this mod, so here are my issues, some suggestions and a plea for help

Issues:-

  1. I was in a fight with a tough forsworn who knocked me to a submission pose ready to be enslaved, Serena however was up and fighting and was able to buy me enough time to get back on my feet throw a few spells at the enemy before going down again, were apon Serena finished the Shaman off. So I get to my feet again and as I'm healing up, suddenly the "enslaved" mission comes up, set stripped, cuffed and kneel down, so go over to masters body, loot all and get free, only to have it all happen again this time with all the loot vanishing form my 'Master'
  2. Spriggan KO's me but Lydia puts an axe through its head before any rape happens, still get the Spriggan armour, but after several levels up no one has given me the clue / quest as to how to get the damn thing off despite rubbing up to every NPC between Markarth to Winterhold, can't find the book anywhere and getting more and more pissed at the whole thing.

Suggestions

  1. Have followers get enslaved as well
  2. have the leaf aura guide you to where you need to go to get rid of it (like the clairvoyance spell)
  3. increase likelyhood of getting clue for spriggan quest
  4. sort out what happens if compainion kills master

Plea

How do I get rid of the fecking tree growing in me?

1. Followers can be enslaved, but it's tedious as most of the time, they'll just kill everyone around. With mods like AFT, UFO, EFF and similar, your followers will level up with you, making it even harder to get them enslaved.

As for the late kicking in enslavement, that's an issue based on to many running scripts.

The spriggan quest is better started w/o any follower.

2. Senseless mand to much work for an feature, that people hated since Fable 2.

3. There is a clue given in the OP, if i remember right. it's older people, that'll give you the clue. in my testing, thalmor or other long living races speeded up the process for me. Might have been random, but worth a try.

4. What?

Posted

Just started the Thug line, and got to the march to Mistwatch. I'm having a problem though, the master gets to a certain point, turns around, hits what looks like a fork, goes another direction towards the fort, then eventually stops and turns around again. One he gets to the fork location, he just stops moving altogether

OP help is somewhat vague, "After the player becomes the host for the spriggan the next stage of the quest is triggered by a few specific comments made about the spriggan armor ( i.e. not any comment, not any comment about the armor, a few specific comments ) by NPCs. You'll get a quest update when it happens." and given I've murdered every Thalmor I've come across that doesn't help as much.

I've found the book in the Arcanium, but it hasn't triggered the quest, nor has bumping into people in Winterhold, Whiterun, Rorikstead or MarKarth. I really want to be shot of this and the random nature of the quest is not helping and I don't want to abandon a character just beacuse of this mod.

I would suggest giving the trigger to preists or apocatharies (ie people you'd go to if your sick) rather that random people.

Edit: found console commands to start the quest to end it

PM me if you don't want to give out spoilers

It's random sayings as you walk near NPCs. You don't actually have to talk to them. You know, the kind of chatter you hear like "I hear they're reforming the Dawnguard". The comments are pretty obvious once you hear them, it's clear they're talking about the armor since they don't normally use those sayings in that random chatter. Turn on general subtitles, and you can't miss them.

Check your quest log.
if it doesn't say to check for the book in the Arcaneu, then reading this book won't do a thing.
For me it once took almost one in-game week. And then, all of a sudden, the Thalmor in Markarth triggered the quest progress.
Being curious, i tested it again and next time the Thalmor in the embassy triggered the next stage of the quest.

Had it trigger once by a comment from an old woman in Whiterun, but most of the time elfes trigger the next stage for me.

And i don't worry about spoilers in this case, as this part of the quest is so insanly random and unreliable, that posting public might help others too.
So my final suggestion is: Patience and try to run across as many old people as possible. Nothing older then an elf.

And please check for incompatible mods and make sure you got Fuz-Roh-Do installed.

Got to the cave and went in , 1st time killing everything that move, quest did nothing, 2nd time went in and stood in front of the Spriggan Matron  and got killed, 3rd time turned on god mod and got wailed on by matron for a 15 minutes while I did work on the laptop, nothing happened. Advice?

PS "insanly random and unreliable" is not really idea as a game mechanic. I like the idea of this mod, but I don't use it to purposefully get enslaved, I play the game and rather than dying and reloading I use it to continue the experience. "insanly random and unreliable" adds new frustration to the game and makes me not want to play.

You shouldn't need to walk into the cave. The everything happens outside.
