I been modding Skyrim & Fallout 4 since I discovered this site & Nexus since summer 2017. I still dont consider myself done with everything I want to add for either game mostly due to mod bugs, me always finding new shit or waiting on some author to finish an update on one interesting mod or a pack of mods that would take too much space separately. Since then I still havent tried a genuine playthrough of either game with everything I added, its always just short or extended bursts of me either fuckin around or testing whatever new mod(s) i added. Then I bought Oblivion earlier this year & am now in the same position of trying to figure shit out for it (especially when it comes to animations lmao).

Now comes in our Lord Gaben with the summer sale at last & both Fallout 3 & New Vegas got hella deals. Unlike the other games I played above, I have seen nothing about mods for these 2 games yet and have no clue how much more annoying they'd be to even get started on working what with simple shit like keeping them at 60FPS instead of the 300 every new Beth game I get likes to jump to for some reason. I haven't seen any of the sex mods for them offered here or even non-adult mods either (can obvi check myself later) so what I want to know is with the way I been playing the other 3 games I already got, is it even worth getting the other 2 Fallouts or should I pass on them for now and get them way after playing my heart out on the other 3 games? Note that for me, the variety of sex mods & large content mods are what I value the most with the game stability & configuration as second & everything else an afterthought like graphic enhancement and such.

There is quite a few content/quest mods available for FNV. I have never played 3 itself so can't speak to it. If one desires they can play FO3 and NV in the same game with Tale of Two wastelands and play both games in one playthrough. FO3 and NV do not have anywhere near the same amount of sex mods or bodies/clothing armor as Skyrim, Oblivion and I'd imagine FO4 by now.

The best stability for NV is on Windows 7. Windows 10 requires more care to get to smooth setup as NVSR wasn't designed for Win 10 so it can't make the same use out of it as 7 did, though 10 has NVTF. But it can be done if you have mid or upper range PC and want to heavily mod it. No point in using 4K textures in this game either. In fact I'd recommend against it for playing unless using a MO to enable for screen shots. I use 1k textures myself for playing. It also requires lots of plugin merging since the game has an issue of a soft plugin limit when the game goes over a certain limit will make it unplayable for me it's 129 but it varies for people and no one still has a solution for it. So you can't get the full 255 out it and need to be more carefully setting up your load order to me than I did setting up Skyrim.

I will say the NV vanilla story is one of my favorites for a game that had so much content cut short before release and people were fond enough of FO3 to make TTW. But I wouldn't enjoy the game as long as I have without having modified it rather extremely, maybe more so than Skyrim. Mods still get made for NV, TTW and even FO3 albeit on a much smaller scale than the other games. I'd say look through the top quest mods on Nexus and the Adult mods section here on LL before deciding and maybe a brief readthrough on what you have to do just to get a stable setup to mod the game before deciding.

New Vegas especially is a gem. Now, it's true that Skyrim and FO4 have a lot more content, both adult and other, and look better, but sooner or later the story and setting will get faded, and the story, setting and quests for NV and FO3 will be a new experience.

My personal opinion is to grab it cheap on Steam sale, and save it for a rainy day when you get tired of FO4/Skyrim.  (Same advice goes for Oblivion, really. In fact, I'd say if you've been having fun dicking around with Oblivion, then you should definitely pick up NV at some point. If not, skip it, unless you just happen to enjoy fantasy settings a lot more. I think they're both sort of similar in terms of adult content amounts.)

New Vegas is one of the best WRPGs there is. Even if you don't use it for sex mods (which do exist, yes) it's worth owning. Problem is the game is old and Gamebryo isn't very well-optimized (as I'm sure you are aware; you mentioned you mod Skyrim), so you'll need a few things to keep everything relatively stable.

Fallout Mod Manager, reliably installs (most) mods for you.

New Vegas Script Extender, mandatory for numerous mods & keeps things running smoothly.

New Vegas Anti-Crash, helps stop crashes. Not bulletproof but makes a noticeable difference.

Yukichigai Unofficial Patch, fixes a lot of bugs the game was simply shipped with.

The 4GB Patch, overrides a native 2GB limit for mod files.

New Vegas Stutter Fix, self-explanatory.

Cipcis\' Automatic Save Manager, revamps the auto-save system.

These core files will make the game run better and enable just about every mod there is, so grab them.

Is New Vegas better for modding both LL & Nexus mods than FO3?

Yes. Also with TTW you can run Fallour 3 on the Fallout New Vegas engine. Fallout New Vegas is much more stable.

With a small conversion you can run most (all?) Faalout 3 mods on Fallout New Vegas (TTW)

Just don't use any of the old converted mods with the new version of TTW. Check the TTW site for info on what's safe and what's not. Also consider that a huge new mod is set for release some time soon called The Frontier and it is compatible with TTW unlike NCalifonia. I'm really hyped for this mod since it lets you drive tanks and pilot vertibirds. Also, project B42 is still in the works, but nobody knows when it might be released.

I was not that impressed with NCalifornia, was fun for one round a bit.

Frontier interest me for the chance play on the Legion side, I know Legion is horrible faction, but I kinda always love more stuff with them ?

The graphics are just soooo old I can't stand looking at them anymore

This makes me chuckle, but I get you. Being 61 now reminds me how I've watched video games grow from the beginning and what isn't that bad to me is in your own words 'soooo old' :)

I recently started a new install of FONV on my newest computer. Now I had a huge variety of mods to look at and am currently trying the New California one myself. So far it's been worth the effort.

On a side note: With the current climate concerning gender politics, I downloaded Kendo2's Androgynous race, so I didn't have to choose between male or female. Just trying to stay up with the recent changes in the cultural atmosphere.

The graphics stopped me from playing FONV, but ironically not FO3, because I expected it to be poor in terms of modern day gaming.  That said, you should not take us old fuddy duddies word on it, because like landess said, some of us have seen the evolution of gaming and graphics and some don't want to go back.  Yes, "Paper's Please" and "beat cop" seem to be good games, but I already played KGB and Police Quest back in the 90s.

That said, FONV is a great game, and I thought FO3 was fun too (especially with the Qou Vagis mod).

On a side note, if you are looking for mod credit........you won't get any 1.2M mod downloads in either game anymore.

They both run on an old engine, but there are mods to make that better; mainly just some HD retexture mods, sound mods, ENB, lighting mods and animation mods. It wont be worth playing in third person unless you get animation mods and a better 3rd person camera.

Frankly, I miss the true RPG elements FO3 and FNV have. FO4 is alright, but your only option is to follow a linear story. As far as dialogue is concerned, your only good options are worried mother or father, or an emotionless drone. Your only "evil" option is to just be a sarcastic asshole only to agree to be a good guy in the end, because there's no way to just say "No." I got back into fo3 yesterday and i have to say, I really missed that. You have so much freedom. Hell, there's a follower in fo3 that won't even give you the time of day if you aren't evil enough; it's absoulutely worth your time.
