Well we all knew that this was coming and wouldn't be long before they were going ass over teakettle and from the looks of it they don't really know how to run anything as it looks like they sold other stuff off as well.

It's sad actually. I know most of y'all think it was some kind of 'moral' choice by Tumblr.

But what very likely "really" happened was very simple: Much like many other sites, they were forced to remove NSFW content by their investors and had no say in the matter. It was a no-win situation. Ignore the investors and you lose revenue..  listen to the investors and you also lose revenue.. Tumblr was marked for death the moment investors got their hands on it.

If I'm not mistaken a couple of vermin were busted hosting pedo shit, causing a few asshole companies like Apple to kneejerk and put the screws on Verzion, under threat of blocking support of Tumblr on their apps.

But seriously, Verzion should have just ate the loss of those sponsors or immediately moved to unload/disband Tumblr, as no one with two brain cells to rub together would have thought the route they chose was going to be anything short of suicidal for Tumblr.

That's how I see it, too. That's also how I see so many other things going wrong with companies lately. Ignorant investors trying to make decisions about things they know nothing about instead of just leaving well enough alone and enjoying their earnings. It would explain why companies keep making decisions that earn massive customer backlash. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when those same investors learn their decisions lost them money.

Actually i don't think big investors are the reason in general. They may be assholes but rarely dumb, and even if they personally have a problem with pron i doubt they let get moral in the way of money. There are probably exceptions like the Vatican bank, and Apple... but not in general.

I think it had more to do with how the public viewed Tumblr that made the investors antsy. As we've seen with all the woke-ness lately, people are overly concerned with their public image and it leads them to make stupid decisions. A few key investment groups/individual investors getting a bug up their ass can force a company into doing what they want. Then everybody loses.

Yeah... honestly i don't get that at all, and if i don't get something it's hard to guess what people would do. Why should anybody care what some douchebags on the internet say? I know nobody cares what i'd like to have. :(

Except that's exactly what the problem was. Tumblr was only breaking even, and Apple refused to allow any porn laced anything on their store that they don't directly control, and Verizon responded accordingly.

That simple, that cut and dried.

I was there when it all happened, and I can confirm that everything that you all have said is 100% correct. Their staff isn't exactly the best, they always make rushed decisions like this, many times in the past causing the site itself to break in hilarious ways lmao! Concerning this particular fiasco, they ended up losing so many members, especially NSFW artists. Some of my own artsy friends got fed up with it, a few of them leaving the site while others remained to get their blogs and artwork appealed. As we speak, people have been finding ways to curb the NSFW ban, myself included. Censorship helps no one, but harms everyone. I would say that Dumblr's staff has learned from this, but then I would be lying tbh
