I believe it is very romantic of you to try and fight these elitists and I support (cue Three Dog's Voice) "the good fight" no matter how futile it may be.  If the corporations want to track my purchases I personally have no issue with it. I am much more concerned with wannabe anarchist teen hackers stealing my personal information, credit card and banking information and sharing that private information on the deep web with child pornographers and world wide criminal entities.

When it comes to romantic notions and things you should be concerned about, you should let a search engine you trust (I recommend https://ixquick.com/) search for the heartbleed exploit. It's a perfect example why believing that open source is automatically safe because the source code is open is religion, not knowledge.

So claiming NMM is safe because it's open source might be a bit "romantic", to use your words. More than that I'd like to add that I don't use NMM anyway, so I'm not overly paranoid, but a lot of other users do, and I also care about things that do not directly affect me.

And btw: Fighting fights you are already sure to win is not fighting. It's opportunism.

AGAIN, you missed the point... Now if you'll excuse me i'm going to wack off and play some Skyrim.

Nope, I am very much aware of your pointless point tyvm. Sigh... ok here goe nothing;

here is ratrace's qoute;

If the NMM compromises PCs in any way by installing malware, spyware and the like, Dark0ne is in trouble. Computer sabotage is a serious crime, at least over here in Germany. Don't know how the legal situation is in the US or UK.

Why would he say that if not to imply that it was there purposely by the Nexus. It is obvious you are thinking with the wrong head here.

I already use startpage for my searches. I also never said that because NMM is open source that it is safe. You may have inferred that but that was not what I said nor was it where I was going. I was opening a line of thought highlighting that anyone can read the code and look for exploits. Which was apparently done. I suspect that they pissed off the wrong kid and I predict more attacks in the future because when you treat people unfairly then feelings get hurt and shit happens.

And btw; I don't get the, "code is open is religion, not knowledge" or the "Fighting fights you are already sure to win is not fighting. It's opportunism."  wtf? Dude save the crap for someone who cares. Your white knight bullshit doesn't get you any points with me. I am not fighting anyone. I am just using my brain and finding faults in your logic. Frankly it didn't make any sense and you still don't. Why would anyone start a fight they couldn't win? It must be some teenaged male ego reptilian brain thing.  At least mogie made some sense but you two have completely lost my interest. From this point forward you two are talking to yourselves.

Um, did I miss anything :D? Mogie! You get back here right now mister! ;)

I don't think weasleheart knew what he was starting when he started this thread :P. Banned from Nexus? This thread will be famous one day, if it doesn't get archived from people arguing.

btw, MO is climbing up the Google ladder. Thread #2 under the search for Mod Organizer, just under the Nexus thread. Here I come, Nexus! Just a few (hundred) more posts... :cool:

Hello santa is still around but kasprutz is gone.

Nothing happened. He's still active...http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/user/5742279-kasprutz/ ..and the Selene Kate companion mod is still up but hidden from public. My guess is the author is doing some updates and after he's done the files will be up for grab again.

A few pages back there was a brief snipit of 'hope' that the new blood injected into the Nexus staff might start changing how they deal with people.  Motoscorpo-douche and his 'gonna ban cuz I feel like it' post in the chat pretty much dispells any of that 'hope'.

make an animated fishing mod with a 2 sec animation of the character swinging the fish pole towards a water body

That will definately get him unbanned! Nexus mods love fishing. Great idea.

Why are all against Nexus? That is such a nice site.

I like Nexus. I even integrated a Nexus-NPC with Nexus T-shirt in my BravilUnderground addon.

Ok, he is dead, but only because he wanted to ban some things.

It is if the person doesn't remove it from their page. Disregarding a staff warning about the endorsement notices. It is part of their terms on the nexus. You can't ask for endorsements or ask for endorsements on your mod page for other members.

Posted

I know it's part of their terms now after looking into it after I posted, but I know it wasn't there before when I signed up. Else UFO, Hothtrooper44's armors, and hugely endorsed mods like that (or at least the authors) would have been warned and possibly banned long ago. I searched in the advanced search on just Skyrim's side of the Nexus alone, 129 pages of mods. Hoth, SmartBlueCat (Inigo), pretty much every popular mod still has it. I don't care if they have it or not, it's rather that it's such a harmless thing. That's why I'm wondering what's up with that. I mean they've had a virus in the NMM before, people uploading viruses and malware, yet they're concerned about endorsement farming? xD Makes no sense.

Posted

Well it's to keep the endorsements from being abused it's like this mod author pulls files and says that they want endorsements or they won't put the files back up or authors make multiple accounts to spam endorse their stuff up to the front page.

Posted

I saw that too, two modders I know were warned by moderators about that and had to remove that sentence. What I don't understand is why I daily see the same sentence in a lot of mods, today I saw a 4000+ endorsements mod who was asking for endorsements in big characters. I don't really care, I just wonder why some can and some can't.

Popular mods generate clicks and revenue for D0rk0ne. Simple as that. They just let it slide in that case.

The thing is, endorsement farming really isn't something like that. If a person pulls a mod and demands, yes... They're a jerk that needs a taste of his own medicine. But a person simply saying "If you like my work and want to support me, just leave a nice comment and endorse!" is just as bad? Frankly I don't feel that's abusing said system. Just reminding people to endorse is like people on YouTube saying to like and subscribe, like I said. It makes no sense since literally their biggest issue is security. Viruses, malware, people who sign up with 100 accounts through VPNs and proxies? If I were Durp0ne, I'd be more concerned about possible breaches than someone asking for support.

What's also MORE interesting is I found out that this whole thing started in the modder's section which requires people to have so many unique downloads or they can't view the forum. It wasn't universally public and I'm not finding a thread about it on there either. This is very recent. The teswiki states that the change on asking for endorsements even in the COMMENTS was on April 2nd of this year and links to a thread in that very same forum that isn't in full public access. I can't access it because I don't have that many downloads. That's quite interesting why it happened there, rather than publicly and out in the open. I mean sure, people can change rules to their sites, but just because they can do it without warning doesn't mean that we shouldn't all be aware immediately in some kind of pinned post "ToS Updated, Endorsement farming no longer allowed."

Yep. That's it. Screw that. I'm not uploading my resources on there. Nope. If that's true, then I don't want any part of that show.

Don't worry, you've apparently already found a much better "community" here at LL. You can upload here and not have any drama whatsoever. And a helpful group of folks, many of them more talented than the Dorks at Nexus. :lol:

Thanks. I may just lurk on the Nexus, get required mods and quickly get out. I mean I don't post on their forums anymore due to the insanity with homophobic/sexist trolls in the debates forum as well as the elitist modders who have a huge following and a chip on their shoulders because of it... Steam's had better ethics than they do.

Posted

That's what most people do they go in and get out they don't post anywhere and if they are smart they will never go into the black hole named the chat many go in but never come back out.

Posted

I've been in there a few times, but meh. Wasn't thrilled. Besides, kept crashing my game browser when I'd visit the Nexus. Still dunno what's up with that. But I might just make a bunch of cannon fodder followers and throw them here. If people want to voice act them, it'd definitely be a learning experience. As for my resources, I don't know how I'd go about just uploading meshes and textures that are DLC required and have the right permissions-etc. Plus I was hoping to make a new system that's like General Stores, only better. xD
