What's on your mind?

AI is on my mind. I just read a reply (from a year ago) to a post I made in the comment section of a Fallout 4 mod on Nexusmods. The comment I made (in addition to praising the mod) pointed out how the mod author touted as some kind of good thing that they did not use AI for the voicing. It was not clear then and it's not clear now why that's a good thing (seems neither a good nor a bad thing). The gist of the replies was "It's good that the mod does not use AI voicing. AI is bad because it steals work from people." I replied noting that without AI, we wouldn't have voicing for a number of Fallout and Skyrim mods, and I would rather have AI than silence.

Railing against AI in 2025 is somewhat akin to railing against automatic elevators in 1925 (or whenever).

I'm not an IP lawyer, but as regards using AI to mimic a person's voice, my understanding is that it's no different from a human impersonator mimicking a person's voice. As long as there is no intent to deceive, no problem.

> My Prince is sooooo cute. Although he had watched "Modern Family" a hundred times, he was very thrilled to see the show start again. We had already watched the first few episodes, and he laughed as he saw it the first time, although he knew every scene. Yes, for him, "Only Fools And Horses" and "Modern Family" are the two best comedy shows ever.

Where you been Brother?

Missed seeing you here!

I have been working Saturdays ( a few) trying to get a project done but due to our inability to keep people (getting a pension isn't as attractive to new employees as it used to be), loads of retirements, etc.    I am not complaining, I would rather have too much work to do than be under or unemployed.    My plans for retirement are on hold or have at least shifted to the right about 2 years.  By that time, we should have a new cadre of promising new talent in to take over.

I hope you are appreciated for your work ethic in actions and in monetary value.

Then I would encourage you to take your own advice: Post it here as a blog. This will allow you to receive feedback, make editorial changes and leaves you with the option to delete it all if you just can't stand it.

What is he talking about? Is there something I'm missing?

The bean counters want me to retire (I am expensive and new engineers are cheap....for a little while) while the clients and immediate supervisors want me to stick around at least three more years.
Bottom line, we are not graduating enough STEM people with the necessary experience  (https://recruitingdaily.com/why-the-u-s-has-a-stem-shortage-and-how-we-fix-it-part-1/ )

I’ve been trying to teach myself how to play guitar for the past couple of weeks and I’ve never felt more retarded. I know this shit takes time, but Jesus Tittyfucking Christ is it frustrating. Also, my fingers hurt.

I do not regret ceasing piano lessons when I was 13. Practice was way too boring.

Since game developers are going for higher graphics and realism I must ask. Can you get more realistic than reality? *Matrix song plays in the background*

But is it the real Matrix song or AI? :classic_ph34r:

You should already know the answer to that.

Because of 'in group preference', assuming I got the term correct.  Nothing brings a group of people together like 'us versus them', that is pointing at another group and saying "they aren't like us, therefore they are bad".  You can find 'in group preference' all over the place.
