D7Rock88 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 The vault and what happened inside is definitely the thing I'm most interested in and curious about. How did the player survive 200 years? The part where he was talking Codsworth and the robot mentioned it had been two hundred years the PC said "There's no way I've been out that long." So to me that clearly points to a prolonged state of unconsciousness, I'm favoring the cryogenic freezing bit because it seems the most likely. The whole android thing is also possible, but I hope that's not the case. Yeah I get the institute, synthetics, androids so the player is probably one also theory, but doesn't that just sound a little too obvious? I mean it would just be a rather disappointing twist due to how easy it was to predict and see coming. Anyway yeah really want to know what went on inside that vault, was it one of the ones that had some crazy ass experiment taking place inside like vault 87, and the one with the white noise (forgot the number)? Or is it one of those vaults that had an experiment that wasn't so crazy but just went horrificly wrong, like in vault 22? I also think the whole idea behind the PC having had a pre-existing family is very interesting, definitely not a start I've ever tried to build a character around, and I'm looking forward to it.
Leito86 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I just realized...if gaming is possible on the pipboy... Is someone gonna... let you watch PORN ON THE PIPBOY?? Someones going to do it... Sprite porn games on the pipboy, I wouldn't mind seeing that. Why sprites when you can have something like this? Haha, that'd be pretty interesting. I just thought of something but does this new modular customisation system mean it'd be easier to make partially nude armour? I've never liked how an actor would take off this big bulky set of power armour just to have sex with a random raider. I don't think it'll be any easier or harder to make partially nude armor with the layered armor system. It looks like you'll still have the once piece outfit like in FO3 for the base. Power armor looks like it's pretty easy to take off in FO4, so that probably shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I saw sections of the crotch and shoulders being highlighted and changed in some parts of the video on top of the base. I'm guessing rather than having multiple modified versions of the power armour base in your inventory as well as the standard base you'd be able to change the base and remove the module item programmatically to get undressed, not sure if it'd be just like an ArmorAddon or not though. My problems never been with the armour being easy or difficult to take off and more that you're having sex naked with a raider in the middle of nowhere if more raiders came along you'd be caught naked and possibly killed, it's against my Falloutish sense of realism.
Darkening Demise Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Since the player has a voice modding will be more interesting if they use vanilla dialogue like the mods from here. Really eager for the next gen adult mods as well as the normal mods to overhaul things such as foliage, facial structure, new companions, hair, etc. Story wise I don't mind this one, it beats New Crapness by a long shot. The world itself looks way more alive (for a wasteland) than Crapness ever did. As long as we don't have to keep making a left turn going in a loop avoiding certain parts of the side or middle of the world to not get raped by deathclaws and whatnot then I'll be happy. Hated the linear lackluster world and shit 'plot' to New Vegas. But then again this is Bethesda Game Studios and not Obsidian. They suck donkey dick in every way possible with their 'games' (at least the South Park game wasn't too awful). Now with the idea of building, more in depth crafting, etc. I can see less need for certain mods that were 'relied' on in earlier installments. Maybe this means we won't have to be spammed with house mods.....oh please no...no more....no more....no more... Yet overall it's easy to remember how rushed, unstable, glitchy, heavily mod reliant, and dated engine Skyrim was all about. But it's built on a newer version of the engine so maybe it won't be....too shitty. Just not looking forward to the infinite loading screens, random CTDs, people's heads spinning around through their bodies, quests not working, Bethesda breaking parts of the game through 'updates', and ofc the mod relying. Can't wait to see how badly we need to rely on mods to get a barely functioning game. What they show at E3 is hardly the version we're getting, those 'gameplays' are scripted to make sure you can't see any problems. Not to mention Microsoft never used the Xbox One during E3 and used PCs to show their games off a few years ago, so with companies pulling dirty tricks you can't be too careful. Bethesda is Bethesda, if you've been around for a while you know what to expect.
BrashT Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 On the topic of New Vegas? I kept having to remind myself that this wasn't some sort of Space Western Comedy game and that it was Fallout.Dead Money helped me get back on track with that. I hope Fallout 4 does a better job of reminding people that this is the Wasteland.
ukshadow Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Nope http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1521856-character-creation-gender/ People will argue about just about anything, won't they?
tacomarine Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Nope http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1521856-character-creation-gender/ People will argue about just about anything, won't they? was that a question or sarcasim? Somehow i expected a question like that to come up. Sadly any time something comes up rreguarding LBTQ it's almost like asking a vegan if they're a vegitarian. It's a fucking religious war both ways. I can understand this, though, from a role-playing perspective and identifying oneself with their character. It's a sensitive subject though, so sadly people like that poster are going to need mods. I just hope Beth loses that 'region affiliation' they tried with New Vegas. I needed to consult google every other quest to figure out what certian phrases meant. I don't know what they'd try with Boston (The accent would be awesome, though) but i swear if i hear some kind of forced lingo I'd only hear from a civil war dude i'll kidnap a kitten and beat the chinese with it.
MidnightVT Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I just want to see the usual great stuff. Great stuff to me (as a female pc) is combat rape, rape on loss, pregnancy, player enslavement. etc. I like to see the heroine get herself into all kinds of fked up situations in the wasteland. hell her dog companion could even get horny and randomly start fking you (even mid combat sometimes) which could end up getting you killed, that would be cool.
Chrisscogg Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I just hope Beth loses that 'region affiliation' they tried with New Vegas. I needed to consult google every other quest to figure out what certain phrases meant. I don't know what they'd try with Boston (The accent would be awesome, though) but i swear if i hear some kind of forced lingo I'd only hear from a civil war dude i'll kidnap a kitten and beat the chinese with it. Really? I always understood what was going on with the dialogue in FNV... Wait, you're not a southerner, are you? From what I've seen, judging by what the player can do (I.E. build settlements and command a personal vertibird), I get the feeling that the story is going to be in the same vein as FNV Act II. Granted, that wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I actually loved the whole "I decide the future of the Mojave Wasteland, and the decisions I make are going to determine the future of all these factions." thing it had going on. It made me feel big and important. And if I get to forage the future of the Commonwealth in a similar fashion, I'll be a happy hick. As for the "Fallout must be a wasteland" thinkers, I disagree. Fallout is not about the wasteland. Fallout is about how humanity picks up the pieces and keeps going. It's about rebuilding from the ashes of what was. Fallout is about hope. If you played the first two games, you'll understand. In the original, yes the wasteland was bleak, but it was filled people foraging new cities and a new future on top of the old. Hell, the overarching goal for the Vault Dweller was to ensure that the core region could be rebuilt by it's inhabitants rather then The Master and his "Unity." This indicates, at least to me, that the Vault Dweller had much faith in to people of the core region. In Fallout 2, We see that he was right. In Fallout 2, the core region is much more rebuilt and stable thanks to law returning to the wasteland in the form of NCR and other political factions. The Chosen One ultimate goal, is again to ensure that these people and factions are allowed to continue their existence and their reconstruction of the world. In FNV, we see that NCR, while not perfect, has come to represent rule of law and government for the vast majority of the core region and beyond, and apparently has a standard of living similar to prewar America within is wealthier areas. That's why I find Fallout 3 to be so incongruent with the established Fallout world. If it were set around the same time as Fallout 1, I could buy it, but it's not. It's set 200 years after the Great War. 200 years after the Great War, the core region had law, a standing army, water, power, and industry. Why is it that people of the Capital Wasteland couldn't do the same? On top of that, the people of the Capital Wasteland have never had to deal with the likes of The Master or The Enclave, so there really wasn't anything major preventing them from bootstrapping themselves to a better standard of living long before Lyons decided that he would solve all their problems for them. Now, I love Fallout 3 to pieces, but it's setting doesn't really make a whole lot of sense within the context of the overall universe. The Capital Wasteland is the was it is because Bethesda wanted to capitalize on the survival horror trend that's been a thing for a few years now. And that's what they did, and did pretty well, but survival horror was just a small part of the much bigger themes present in the originals. My hope is that Bethesda realized that, and found a way to balance their survival horror with the underlying faith and hope in humanity of the originals in a setting that makes sense within the context of it's universe. So, as many other have stated, I am of the opinion that Fallout 3 was a good survival horror game, but Fallout New Vegas was a better Fallout game. Hope I didn't offend anyone. Edit: As for the name of the sex framework, I suggest Sexout 2: The Bostonian Edition. You can easily tell that it's Fallout related, and that it is connected to Fallout 4 by indicating the setting. I know that there were a few problems with people trying to use the original Sexout with Fallout 3 despite being developed for FNV. This way, it's crystal clear.
loverslab987 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I didn't like the reveal trailer, it looked underwhelming to me. But the Beth conference really made up for it. The gameplay convinced me, that this game is going to be pretty good. Even without all those (sex) mods. I know LL is all about sexy times, but a game has to be fun even in vanilla state in my opinion. I also don't think the intro / starting quest or the voice acting is limiting the roleplaying and modding in this game in any way. But then I'm also not too crazy about all the 300 sex mods for Skyrim, Fallout 3 etc. If I get my occasional sexy (modded) armors I'm pretty much ready for the game. One thing I learned from previous Beth games is, that they know how to create a mostly fun sandbox world, but they've always had problems with the technical side of things (graphics, physics, animations, bugs/crashes) and the content (quests, characters, story) which was kind of rough and shallow sometimes. Now with the Witcher 3 there is a new reference in the genre as far as I'm concerned. The impact and depth of quests is unrivaled for me and I doubt, Beth will be able to reach this quality in Fallout 4. Having to rely on modders to fill all these gaps is not exactly something I particularly like. Of course, they are doing a great job and all, but it takes a lot of waiting time on top of the release date until quality mods are created and it more often than not feels different from the vanilla game. Furthermore, mods introduce bugs themselves or are bugging out other functions of the game which is annoying, too. I stopped playing Skyrim and FO3/NV years ago and it's defintely time for a new iteration now ... and I'm more than ready after all this time.

It was sarcasm. Fallout 1 and 2 imply that the Player is born from from a normal couple. Fallout 3 has the character be born from a woman with a male father. Fallout NV mentions no family whatsoever, and it is the first game where homosexuality is an option. People are bitching about how demeaning it is to have an average heterosexual couple bearing a child without it being an option is silly. The world is based on 50s USA, homosexual couples were unheard of. But what happens then is of no consequence, because either male or female the player character will end up alone. This minor backstory is so utterly irrelevant to the rest of the story it is just plain stupid to bitch about how you can't have both partners be of the same gender. The game will go live in a few months. Having Bethesda fix that just to please a very minor amount of fans is dumb when they will need that time debugging. Heaven knows that they need it.
Kuroshu Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 If FO2 is any indication Homosexuality might not be as widely accepted based on how a certain NPC reacts after you sleep with his son(if male) or daughter(if female). Or maybe it was cause that town was religious. For the one person who complained when Todd used Female rather than Woman. What word did he use when referring to the opposite gender? Male or Man, if it's Male then you should also point that out else now your just being unfair. Yes having a family in the beginning is limiting the personal RP of the players. However that isn't a bad thing. Those who complain just want to straight up be spoon fed the option and don't want the challenge of finding a way for the characters to BE what they want them to be. It's not set that your character is Straight all the way till the game ends. Some people have already pointed RP possibilities. For those that want true freedom to create their own characters and craft their own story... That would require the devs to have less input in those. It's a game of tug a way, more power to the players less power to the devs. Meaning if the players have the power to decide the story then the vanilla story would be bland, lackluster. If the devs have most the power they can tailor a story that could touch your heartstrings(if you had one) for good or for worst(Happy or Sad). Bethestha HAS to balance those two. For FO4 they seem to be trying to add more story, that means that players have less input if the story demands it(orientation or situation). For your information games where you can create your own story exists those are the true sandboxes. No story by the devs, just an empty space for you to do your thing. Games such as Minecraft. They don't even have a set world! you literally have to even craft the world yourselves! Sadly there's no NPCs worth talking to since you'd also need to craft their own history, personality, orientation, etc. There really isn't much to do since other than doing mundane things you aren't really pushed to do anything... Damn... that sounds boring for me... I mean even if I RP there's nothing in the world to do... nothing happens unless I make it happen so no surprises and every conflict is artificial. PS: last bit was semi sarcastic. My point was that Fallout is not a Sandbox game, it might come off as one but it isn't. And RP is only enjoyable when you have a world to RP in and others to interact with. RPing with a bland NPC is just as boring as RPing with a dead aardvark. Even if you can choose what orientation you want your character to be, would it be worth it if there is NOONE in the game interesting that would react to you? Like your always the same cut and dry person? What you really should be asking for can't be judge yet. Even if bethesda made it so you can make both characters in the character selection(The Bathroom Mirror) would it mean they are letting you play as a homosexual character? NO. What truly matters is that if they let you play like one. IE is there an option on hitting on certain NPCs with the same gender cause you find them interesting? Like Romance able Companions and the like. But there's also that character's personality to take into consideration. Not ALL characters are Bi, and even if they are one would think they'd still want hetero relationship when trying to rebuild/repopulate the world. IF I where to say it rudely: SHUT THE F UP about the game not letting you play as a Homosexual YET. Wait till the Fing game comes out and you get to play it's CONTENT. As a final notice I am NOT trying to be rude or offensive or attacking another person's point of view. If it seems like I am then I apologize in advance.
nutluck Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 I am not a fan of the start for FO4, mostly cause I have never been a fan of any of the Beth games main story. FO3, Oblivion, Skyrim. I thought all three of them the worst part was the main stories, the side quests, varies NPC's that have nothing to do with the main story. Guilds and groups (like the companions in Skyrim) etc where by far the best parts of those games. So the reason I am not a fan is it looks like they are going to push the main character story even more than in previous games and the previous games has made not confident about Beth's ability to tell compelling main stories I like. I tend to do the main story in Beth games once and then never again. I actually struggled to finished the main Dragonborn story in Skyrim because I thought it was just that bad. After finishing the main story once I never do it again. I am not too worried about the forced start because I am sure a mod like Alternate Start will be out fairly soon and then I can skip the main story and play the character I want and just focus on building a community and the side missions. So not a major deal for me, but not a fan either.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 I only managed to kill Benny and do a little bit of the Mr. House quests. I couldn't find myself with enough enthusiasm to finish the game. To me the game was over when I killed Benny. And it wasn't till 3 and a half years later when I actually built motivation to do Old World Blues and Lonesome Road. Skyrim's civil war between Storm Cloaks and Imperial Legion didn't bother me as much as NCR and Legion did, but when it comes to this these types of war, I usually don't give a crap who wins. And one of my pet peeves about that is I hate being forced into a war that doesn't matter to me. I did it anyways and it wasn't all too bad, but still didn't care. I did enjoy Dragonborn DLC and helping the Dunmers. I guess because Dunmer is my favorite race in TES, but I also enjoyed the moody feel in Solsteim. Dawnguard was decent. Not a fan of Serana, but I would rather do that DLC than the main storyline in Skyrim. Being the Dragonborn was not really impressive. If there is one thing that I can't stand it's being a overpowerful character. I am not a fan of the shout thing. I only fear that this trend is going to pursue Bethesda to make powerful characters in their next sequels to come. Actually I don't care really. Even though I bought TES Anthology, Skyrim was enough for me to not want to continue that path. Fallout 3 was a hit for me. I dunno, I grew with the Lone Wanderer because of the whole vault 101 scenario. I felt I actually had a purpose in the world. To go out and find a loved one only to wind up in a world of danger and having to adapt to it. I just didn't feel the same with The Courier. I felt like I was already set to do what I needed to do without actually having a more believable reason to do it. If Benny was someone I knew in the past, like say a best friend or a family member who betrayed me, maybe then I could of let it grow into me. But it was all just randomness. It was like BOOM! wake up, oh hello! welcome to new vegas. here's your gun, now go off and kill the man who shot you. I feel Fallout 4 is going to be close to Fallout 3's story. And as I said before, I believe they went with this story to simply not go with the same child born growing up in a vault and off into the wasteland scenario. And I can live with that. I hope in the future, they can go with a different type of character like The Courier, but give the protagonist a real purpose to go on his/her quest because it's going to eventually get old starting as a vault dweller and coming out of a vault.
testsubject013 Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 the only thing that I'm slightly concerned about is that bethesda is going to force that relationship down the player throat and limit the type of dialogue option available to the player to select, but given bethesda track record of giving the player choice in how they react to situation I wouldn't be surprise if they allowed the player to disregard the relationship all together. just like you could be completely rude to your dad in fallout 3. as for stories go I always prefer story of revenge to a story about finding your loved ones. it just that stories that involved family don't really click for me maybe it just cause i'm a heartless bastard. I also hate it when games try to pull the player heart strings. it more annoying than anything else and usually just pushes me farther away from the characters and create a disconnect for me.
loverslab987 Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 You guys are forgetting something: there were next to no sexual relationships in vanilla F3 and almost next to no sexual relationships in FONV. Apart from some quick "fade-to-black" sex-scenes, where you sometimes even had to pay for first. I had to research that info online, because I couldn't remember any of that. That's how important it was ... That said, even if you were only able to get into heterosexual and personal relationships in F4, that would still be a huge improvement over the previous games. And I'm talking about Mass Effect and Dragon Age style romances here (perhaps Witcher, too). Bethesda seemingly never cared about these things too much. As far as my research goes, even Skyrim was the first in the TES series where you could actually get into a relationship and marry the partner ... and the whole thing was still pretty bland. I think it's safe to assume, sexual and meaningful romances are not very high on Bethesda's priority list and it's probably something reserved for modding anyway.
l33tMan Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Romances are probably not high up on any developer's list because the way society looks down on sex in videogames. Let us not forget that LL enjoys a peaceful and fairly happy existence because we're under the radar. I think it's perfectly okay to have a game with only bland romances and sex, and let the community fill in the quality prostitution and spouse fun mods (take Skyrim as an example). If Bethesda added explicit sex scenes and deep romance side questlines, the ESRB staff would flip their stuff. However, we could make a Fallout 4 version of WillowWithSexout, couldn't we? Also, some saloon or inn could be converted in a way that would permit a female PC to work as an equivalent to Nova (Moriarty's Saloon) or some other post-apocaliptic wench. Adding romances and sexual content would only get th developer in trouble. Creating this type of content is our job, I believe. We only need the premise of the game be open enough to allow us to develop such a player character.

If great voice performers are found to do the romance dialogues. I won't be having high expectations since it's really hard to find a female who can project enough emotions and with a great catchy voice to go along with it. I'm not too fond for voiced mods so I'm certain that I won't be following most of it. I may try them to see the outcome, but I'm not gonna expect much. I guess I'm very picky since I prefer having my followers use the vanilla voices. Even if they are just basic.
Adorkable Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Well, as far as the forced straight marriage goes, it doesn't bother me THAT much. I mean, I think it's kinda crappy if the player doesn't even get to headcanon their own characters sexuality, but I personally can live with it. Mostly because I'll be bisexual as fuck. Or closeted as fuck. Whatever, I sure as hell won't be straight.Doesn't make it better in general, though. For one, the whole 'it was the 50s!' argument doesn't really apply when the game starts in 2077. It's inspired by 50s aesthetics, but not necessarily by their social values. Even in the 50s, gays existed. The gay rights movement was a thing. The problem I see with even a short intro is that it will no doubt have further impact on your character's journey. There will be a ton of references to the player character's life before the bombs. In the video they showed of the in-game Pip-Boy, you can see that the PC still has their wedding ring with them. They generate a BABY based on the two characters you customize. In other words, there is NO way that kid will not have some sort of significance further down the line. Maybe the thing survived or is a ghoul or who the fuck knows. (Honestly, I'm more annoyed by being forced into motherhood than by the straight marriage thing.)As for romance in general, no way is Bethesda gonna include it. Not in the way Bioware does, in any case. At the most, there will be a Skyrim-style relationship system (though even that I doubt). I don't mind. I'm sure some modder will come along who will give us a great romance mod or a great follower you can romance. (See Willow for Fallout NV. I'm usually very picky when it comes to voiced followers - and followers in general - but that one stole my heart.)
Guest endgameaddiction Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Well I predict that the whole creating the spouse and child generated by the couple will be due to the fact that you and your family survive the explosion. I seem to think before you go into a coma or what ever with the cryogenic chamber thing we will see a part of the present in the vault before tragic events occur and some how you are put to sleep for 200 years. I think during the time you are down there with your family, some years will go by and you'll see your child grow. Then some tragic even occurs like maybe everyone dies from food poisoning or something except you. Or maybe another mad man Overseer starts going on a rampage killing everyone and then himself but some how you survive a head shot and all of a sudden this is FO3 and FNV mixed together and you wake up 200 years later only to take revenge on the Overseer who somehow also survived but left the vault and became leader of the Institute and controls the whole droids. *sarcasm somewhat* but I do believe you will spend time with the family down in the vault and something happens to everyone in the vault and maybe even yourself but you are special and somehow either survive or you probably do become an android and don't know it till later on. Upon waking up you go through a state of confusion because, well, asleep for 200 years is a long ass nap. This reminds me of that Mel Gibson movie which I forgot the name of where he was asleep for a very long time. 90s film.
Adorkable Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 I thought it was confirmed though that your family dies in the nuclear blast? (Or maybe everyone just assumes so. It seems very likely, though.)
BruceWayne Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 Todd Howard said in the presentation (video in OP) that you are the lone survivor of the Vault. If you look at the footage, it does seem like the woman and the baby are outside in the blast zone, while the atomic bomb is detonating. That's the only thing he said about the story though (You get in the vault, "events transpire" and you eventually emerge 200 years later)
Guest endgameaddiction Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 You are the soul survivor but to me it's hard to tell if Todd meant this before going to sleep for 200 years or after upon waking up and seeing people dead. It's hard for me to believe that you descend into the vault as the only survivor. Someone has to put the player to sleep for a long time. It could be some robots that control the vault.
trpd Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 My wild assumption is that they all enter hibernation but malfuncion happen and there is enough power to only keep one of you alive. Classic i would say. At first i was thinking that only PC enters vault and his family somehow survives outside but then 200 they couldn't be alive anyway. I just wonder if the main plot is something personal that can have me relate to it or rather we are "blessed" with saving the world again.
