You know it'll be good if all of our assumptions are totally way off.

Okay I'm giving away the real spoiler.

Vault dweller is really a grub and wraps in a cocoon for 200 years only to emerge from vault 111 as a butterfly.

One of the things I've enjoyed most about Fallout games is finding vaults and then exploring them, discovering the (usually) tragic stories of what happened to the residents. What I'd love in FO4 is to have that same experience near the beginning, but this time it's your own vault you're creeping through to find out what happened. That could add an extra level to things.

So let's say, for example, you get badly injured, or very ill, and get put into cryo-sleep to heal. Then some disaster happens to everyone else - probably part of another sick Vault Tec experiment - and you're the only one who was protected from it. With no one around to wake you up when you've healed you end up sleeping for a couple of hundred years. Then you're woken by a cryo-chamber malfunction, loss of power, or a medical robot and find the vault in ruins. You creep around the shadowy hallways trying to find out what happened to everyone, especially your family.

Something like that could make for an intense opening.

I thought it was confirmed though that your family dies in the nuclear blast? (Or maybe everyone just assumes so. It seems very likely, though.)

Todd said that your family survives and enters the vault. Then he says that you exit as the sole survivor.

It may mean that the boy and other parent died, but when he shoes the pip_boy you can see that you take it from a skeleton. My guess is that you found only skeletons inside the vault and you think that you are the sole survivor. But you had no mean to identify the corpses since the skeletons are all wearing the same jumpsuit. I bet the boy survived and will be part of the story. ( He exited the vault a long time ago and he will look like he could be your father )

Remember this is 200 years later. No way the boy survived unless he was somehow an android or turned into a ghoul. The pipboy the vault dweller picks up is off a scientist or doctor I believe. Thought I saw a lab coat on the corpse.

I think thor might be on to something. It's perfectly possible your partner and/or your child escaped some time before everything went to shit in the vault. So you'd still be the sole survivor at the time, but you'd also be able to find clues and track your loved ones outside in the wastes. We'll see on November 10th. All aboard the HYPETRAIN! Chu chu! *scnr*

I'm putting my money on FO4 incorporating marriages again.

After marrying that one awesome NPC who seems to always be by your side, you go on a quest and accidentally discover that many years ago some residents from vault 111 survived the demise of the vault, including your son.

It is the that you learn the NPC you marry is your great great grandchild.

There are crygenic cells in vault 111, this explains how we and the boy are still alive after 200 years.

We have another clue in the first trailer when we see dogmeat smelling the crib. It suggests that he recognizes the smell of the baby. But it is impossible if the baby died inside the vault. The only way is if Dogmeat met your son outside the vault recently.

OR if he escaped the vault 20 or so years before the PC does....

Ugh, I hope to god they don't shove that family down my throat. I have more important things to do. Hot female NPCs, for example. (Being forced into a marriage for an intro is one thing, being forced to spend the game searching for your spouse and kid entirely another. It was annoying enough to have to look for your father in FO3. The dude left me with a crazy Overseer for god's sake.)

If that kid survives I'm so finding a way to get rid of it even if I have to make a mod that realistically skips any quests involved.

That would make the him 180 years old or so. So he would have to be an android or some mutated ghoul or creature of a sort. Or another Mr. House like behind a TV screen. Not that it's not possible. The mom and boy could be projected like a hologram like Vera Keyes from Dead Money.

Well, technically he'd be around 200 years old regardless, but if s/he escaped 20 years before the PC, assuming they were put into a cryo station at around ten-to-eighteen, they would physically be between thirty and and thirty-eight. Which may make them roughly the same 'age' as the player character, assuming the player character was somewhere in their thirties when frozen.

If the kid and spouse survives I'm going to kill them both...I hope they're not mark as essential

I just realized that there's finally a set up for player incest mods.

Only if you're into parent/child incest and that's just not my cup of tea.

Yes, of course. I was simply pointing it out. General porn stats suggest that parent/child incest is relatively popular, and the proliferation of BDSM, pregnancy, and bestiality mods for Skyrim (the latter two of which are relatively less popular than parent/child incest in general pornography) over vanilla sexual content suggests that we may well see quite a few incest mods.

Being a MILF was my first option when I thought about playing as a widow. Not really my style, but I could incorporate a storyline from it and make it pretty twisted. Same with incest, but I rather not dive into the whole child inclusion scene. Simply because it's not my thing and Bethesda has done a perfect job making me despise those stupid obnoxious immortal little brats from Fallout to Skyrim. I will make sure to make my own non-essential child mod if I get into this game. Even Lucas Simms kid is annoying and he's not a snotty kid. But his "Dad said not to talk to strangers." when I just walk by him makes me want to punch him.

I'm not suggesting that child inclusion will be a thing. That's strictly forbidden by Loverslab rules. But it's easy to imagine that the child escaped cryo or whatever 20 years before you and is all grown up.

This is pretty obvious the child will be alive somehow, probably a young adult that you will need to save or something, kinda like fallout 3 with the father...

that or as an old man that you discover later in the game is in fact your son.

Sound like very unoriginal and classic scenarios but if it's well done it could provide some great moments in the game, they just have to try to not make the story around this too simple and expected.

What would surprise me in the first place is that the kid is simply dead along with the husband/wife and we move along, this is the sole survivor after all.

I just have to ask since your posting in this thread, any chance you will do a version of Defeat for FO4 when it comes out? :)

If I'm going to make a Defeat equivalent I can't tell right now, I will probably let other modders the honor (and headaches) of doing combat rape stuff to focus on other nice stuff I can make and have ideas for already, because I will difinitively mod for Fallout, that's for sure, always prefered Fallout series over elderscrolls and I see so much potential mods for Fallout 4 already.

Anyway we need to see what the new CK has in its guts before we make plans.

Oh I understand that we have to wait and see. I just consider Defeat one of the must have Skyrim mods, so was curious if you had thought about it.

I was a little concerned during the character creation process. It seemed to be built off one specific race to generate your build. Say if project ARES was, or other extensive race mods, were ported over, would it even be possible to integrate them into the game? I hope Bethesda keeps those options open, and all we saw was the second half the creation process.

I fear the voiced player will cause many many many mods to be messed up. You'll have to use vanilla dialogue really now so I'm not looking forward to custom companions, quests, LL mods, etc.

Story? Meh Bethesda can't write, heck they make Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer look good!

I'm looking forward to the building, crafting, and exploring the new wasteland only.

There will probably be mods that change the cinematic camera angle of the conversation, plus remove the player voice within a week or two of release. Story wise it can't hurt to optimistic? Surely they must have learned something from their last 3 games! =P
