Just wanted to get that off my chest, but why do people assume that the PC will be either one of the 2 starting characters? Why has nobody here (i think so, havent read every single comment) thought about the chance that the PC will be the KID from the beginning? Therefore virgin, just for those that care/were complaining about this. lol.

Would make more sense to me that both parents died in those 200 years and you are the survivor, the youngest one, the KID.

During character creation they named the character Howard. When the PC comes back to his old home, the robot adresses him as Howard.

I'm certain we will see a dandy moment in the vault after the bombs. If not it'll be the player waking up and finding everyone dead. The only evidence we actually see taking place in Vault 111 is when the player picks up a pipboy from a corpse and straps it to his arm. As you see him arise out of vault 111 he's already wearing the pipboy on his arm.

They also state during the gameplay trailer that they have programmed over 1,000 of the most popular names into the robot.

So yes. It IS the PC that you make at the beginning of the game that comes out of the vault. They wouldn't have programmed the robot's voice that far ahead if it wasn't.

Well, as I somewhat mentioned a bit ago, there has been a bit of a theory going around that you're NOT the parent, but rather an android implanted with their memories as was the case of Harkness in Fallout 3. Given that the game takes place in Boston, the home of the Institute, it's creation of Androids, and The Railroad's attempt to free them.  . .how that would work if true, who knows? We'll find out when we play it and all that good jazz.

To the person who was upset that they couldn't slowly corrupt their female character. . .just because someone was in a relationship, got married, and had a child does not make them incorruptible. . .in fact, it would make the corruption more heartbreaking I would say. The wasteland does things to people whether you're a parent or not or an android.

I like the concept of the voice protagonist myself as it helps breath life into the character and I like to hear them vocalize things besides grunts and gasps, though I also liked the alternate start mods that were available in the past Bethesda games. They made it so you were not required to be the Lone Wanderer, the Courier, or the Dragon so if you wanted to play as someone else? You could.

A part of me has high hopes that the character's past won't be brought up unless you play through the main story or you bring it up in certain dialogue phrases so there MIGHT be the possibility of an alternate start mod that could work around the voiced protagonist. . .but I'm a bit of an optimist, we'll see in November and/or as new details come out.

I wonder they'll have a generic alternative if you decide not to choose one of the 1000+ names.

Even if you happen to choose something they didn't record, it will probably just be replaced with "Sir" or "Mam".. or something similar.

Although i doubt the Robot is the only one calling you by your name, would be a waste of money to record 1000 names just for that.. anyway.. a bandit would probably not adress you with "Sir", then again they could just record a few alternatives for that case.

Too much thought for such a simple subject.. they will have something figured out, i'm sure.

Maybe the character you are naming is the Kid? As it will be your PC later on? And you are just able to customize the first 2 characters because thats how you will be end up looking 200 years later?

Just an observation on the skills being absent: I just watched the presentation again and when he's modifying the weapons you can see a panel pop up on the right of the screen when working on laser or plasma weapons that lists Science Rank 1 (and sometimes 2) as a requirement. Another requirement of "Gun Nut" ranks pops up for some of the other weapons/mods.

WOW! Just wow! PC mods for fallout 4 will be transferable to the Xbox.....   O.o    What....   The....     Helll.........

Was NOT expecting this from bethesda after the paid mods debacle. I mean sure they most likely won't allow extreme or sexual content but depending on how they transfer who knows. Wow just wow. Someone grab a light bulb I'm so shocked I could power it for a month.

I'm seeing a lot of freaking out about the PC being already married and a parent before the game even starts. We've only seen a few moments of that part of the gameplay, folks. The kid could be adopted. The parents could be "living in sin" as it were, unwed. We don't know anything for certain yet.

I assume and hope that they do, as not everyone is going to name their character. . .Bob. . .Phil. . .Steven. . .

Where's the PenisLord, and Dickbutt voiceovers? lolz

I can't really think of people naming their chars generic names.

For those freaking out about being a married PC, Howard stated that you are the lone survivor of Vault 111 when you come out of the Vault, due to events that were left out by Howard. But you're basically a widow who last his/her kid.

I re-watched the e3 stuff again. Twice. Soooo awesome. I think I posted in a thread that got closed. I don't remember exactly what I said. I do know the gist was something like the following.

My brain exploded.

If I had a penis. It would be hard.

OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!

YESSSSSSSSSSSS!

I really don't see the point of the people complaining about a sexually active protagonist. They claim that the protagonists of the previous games were virgins, and all the horrible (and sexy) things that happened to them via LL mods are their first sexual encounters. I'm gonna call bullshit on that. In New Vegas, once you have The Courier's backstory all pieced together, the protagonist has to in his/her late twenties at least, as he/she had already claimed the title of badass through his/her pregame exploits. Hell, Lonesome Road explicitly states that The Courier has been in this line of work for more then a decade. Mind you, The Courier is from NCR, which models itself after prewar America, child labor laws probably included. I dare you to find a person who has more then a decade under his or her belt working a full-time job who is a virgin. If you do, I will eat my shoe, and I really like my shoe.

As for The Lone Wanderer, I feel that the intro strongly implies the he/she had a sexual relationship at some point with Amata. I guess you could argue the she's just a really good friend, but I think it's more likely that she is or was in love with The Lone Wanderer. You don't just stick your neck out like that for anybody, especially when you're going against your loving father whom you have a deep respect for (Which does fit the description for Amata. I cite the peaceful solution to "Trouble on The Home-front" as evidence that Amata and her father do love and respect each other). No, I insist that The Lone Wanderer had to be particularly "special" for Amata. Hell, I'd be willing to gamble that Amata lost her virginity to him/her.

As for the Elder Scrolls protagonists, there are very few convicted prisoners who are still virgins. And those who are don't stay that way for long, even in modern prisons. Much less in medieval dungeons. However, there is enough ambiguity in those backstories to call those games protagonist's retainer of virginity plausible, but not probable.

So, I argue that the protagonists of the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series were all at least implied to be sexually active before the events of their games. The Fallout protagonists especially. That said, if you really want to "de-flower" your protagonist, there will most certainly be a LAL mod that will allow people of that particular fetish persuasion to role play it in. Also, I heard a rumor saying that the PC will die at the end of the main quest, and the player will assume the role of his/her progeny to continue gameplay after the end of the main quest. If that's true, well then there's your solution.

Headcanon and RPing are a hilarious mix, don't think on it too much and instead drink from the Goblet of Hype and board the Hype Train! I have a great feeling about what the community will come up with, be it standard or. . .carnal.

I'm already feeling inspired to do some modding in F04, and actually release the silly stuff I'll do! Nothing game-changing I'm sure but still!

Can that be true? Voiced PC? OMG Finally! Hope the voice acting and expressions is good and can propel emotions. And all naysayers - you probably won't even need mods to mute your character.

Graphics - outside faces not much improvement i would say. Shadows in that house or rather lack of them... But what worries me the most is how static everything looks. Static hair, static clothes, the grass that won't react to person walking on it, also how the shirt stretches on that guys neck when he rises head.

Question : will cities be part of the world or load screens are still there?

Building my own home... err how about no? I do not want to play SIMS! same goes for my city, stronghold or whatever - keep strategy in strategy genre! And rather focus on more branches for the story...

Weapon crafting - not too big fan of that, i like to find my stuff, building it up from junk doesn't sound too exciting (i hope that it is not mendatory). Armor customization is amazing through.

All and all i'm happier about Fallout 4 then i was before. Just wish i could get excited for Bethesda storytelling :(

@Pre-ordering - i will hold on to my money till i know there is no mod DRM BS coming.

home/settlement building weapon crafting armor crafting are all optional choises you can do if you want but you wont fail main story for not doing. im pretty sure like weapon crafting being similar to how in skyrim you could enchant and improve armor/weapons but there was still tons of pre-enchanted items you could find and use. aka in case of fallout youll find great and possibly pre-customized weapons too if you dont fancy doing it yourself.

They're clearly close friends and might well have gone on to become lovers, but I doubt they ever actually slept together. When she wakes you up to warn you her father's men are coming for you, you have the option of telling her you'd just been dreaming about her - which I usually pick ;) Her reaction makes it pretty clear to me that she and the Lone Wanderer aren't intimate. Can't remember her exact words, but it's pretty much, "Gross! Be serious!"

Dialogue Option:

"How weird. I was just dreaming about you..."

Response If LW is Male:

"Don't be a smart-mouth! This is serious!"

Response If LW is Female:

"Oh, gross! Knock it off, this is serious!"

-----------------

So. . .I personally see no room for a physical encounter, especially in regards to a female character.

But lore be damned when mods are involved!

Thanks. It's been a long time since I played as a male character in Fallout 3, but I can see how that response leaves it open that they might be/have been an item. But yeah. Amata's clearly not up for a bit of girl/girl!

Her loss. :)

I may be going out on a limb here, but I'd wager sex mod immersion wasn't at top of their to-do list making this game. Besides, once people figure out how to either mute or re-voice the character, it shouldn't be too hard creating an alt start mod. God knows it's been done a million times by now.

It's character immersion in general. And yeah, the voice too. Hey guess what, you're American! Because we said so dammit! Even Saints Row gives you 3 accents to choose from. Revoicing from a mod standpoint is an overly large task. That FO3 follower that has a voice for the whole game took literal years. Oh and want to be gay/lesbian? Nope. You're bi at best and had a child. Though I did mention maybe you skip years and play as the kid at some point and this stuff is mostly moot.

Speaking of, not that it's something I use since it doesn't work with mods here but oh the hilarity of playable children races now.
