the only reason the events of the previous games would be required to know is if you were playing the same character (direct sequel), which you are not - the character does not need to know those events why should the player need to know them to get the full effect of the game?...

Story-wise you'll not missing anything nop. It's like playing a final fantasy 8 when you did not play 7, of course there is some stuff like bestiary/magic that can be the same but not the same story or characters, for fallout it's a little more complicated cause the game can actually make some allusions to some NPC from older games but you get the point.

also a thought , if we get portal mods that work with the building customization feature. and ( most likely need it for elaborate science) get a building area super sized expansion, then we spend days if not months doing stuff For Science! ( well aside from all that plasma, energy,FEV,etc going on)

Oh yes, I really hope there is a system like that where you need to develop things in the R&D department of your camp and have the prerequisites to unlock more buildings and more tech, like in a RTS game.

with the way they showed building a settlement it makes me wonder if they made major changes to the nav mesh system they used for NPCs to know where they can move, in skyrim the way the structures were put together any which way would get in the way of the navmesh that has to be finalized in the CK making NPCs collide with stuff and not be able to path properly.

the video also makes it look like there will not be a loading screen between the outside and inside of a building so it makes me think they put a lot of effort into that but it is curious that you have to build in designated sites rather than just anywhere you want... maybe something to do with the bandit attacks they talked about...

Exactly my thoughts, I hope the navmeshe system has been upgraded and they did not just find a dirty workaround to implement the setlement stuff.

The no loading screen is great but I suppose shelters or large building will get a loading anyway, it's no big deal to me though.

So far the litle disappointment is that they did keep the one piece torso armors, why they do not go back to the Oblivion system where you can different combination of pants and jackets, for a game like fallout it would be great...

Aren't they actually splitting up armors even more? In the E3 preview it looked like you can have seperate armor for Torso, left/right arms/legs, etc.

Or is there some new information about this?

Yes and no. It looks like you can put extra armor layers on top of the vault suit.  Maybe other armors allow the same thing we don't know yet.

I would welcome a better streaming system and a better memory purger so people can play longer without crashes. I'd like to see more information on the technical side of this game where many of today's ideas are depending on...

As far as Lovers mods are going, I liked how Oblivion set things up. Had a situation once where a quest character wouldn't take my advice to make a testimony, so I fucked him. He liked me for that, and went to see the guard... Since Fallout had different karma/moral systems in the past, I'm rather unsure how those dependencies could be implemented.

They are having layered armor. Looks like you have the same main armor but then slots where you can put more armor on top of it. But with the layed armor slots it should make it easier for modders to break armor up into slots.

Not looking forward to........

  • Dated visuals

  • Potato faces

  • Terrible AI (charge into the gunfire, smart. Walk into walls then realize after several minutes you can't go there, smart.)

  • Broken quests

  • Random freezing

  • Random lagging

  • Game can't handle more than 3-5 NPCs in the same area without mass performance issues

  • Lackluster interiors because of the dated engine not able to handle more than a couple props

  • Finding out how much was left out because they had to rush it out the doors (Skyrim is missing a shit ton, too much scrapped.)

  • The linear generic errand run quests

  • The lackluster voice acting

  • The lack of voice variety

  • The voiced protagonist (will get in the way with mods along with the 'fancy' camera movements during conversations)

  • The random CTDs

  • The infinite loading screens

  • Heads spinning through their bodies

  • The copy and pasted dated animations

  • Missing audio

  • Broken lip sync

  • Clunky UI

  • One piece outfits (yay for laziness)

  • Annoying dog (Skyrim has taught us they're stupid and useless always getting in the way and won't shut the @#%$ up.)

  • The stupid family oriented storyline (just scrap the main plot and give us total freedom to make our own stories already, wast of money and time.)

  • The short pre war intro (no point since it's short, could've showed the daily lives more, work, family, friends, town, etc. but NOPE! Straight to the atom bomb baby atom bomb.) -_-

  • The bland generic world with no points of interest

  • The tank and get in the way genericly dull companions "I wear a potato sack!" So? "I wear a potato sack!" -_-)

  • The dull dull dull lifeless 'characters' (as Bethesda and the fanboys call them, but anyone with a brain labels them 'artificial shells with generic common names')

  • The copy and pasted environments (oh look the same office layout as the last building! Except, drum roll please! This one has a chair over by the wall! *GASP* SO EPICALLY ORIGINAL!!!!!!!!...NOT! -_-)

  • Lack of variation in enemies

  • The lack of different actions taken by NPCs (always charge into the gunfire, no taking cover, no using melee up close, no running away until they're about to die, oh yeah so intelligent next gen right here)

  • Stuck playing yet again as a human (what about tales as the super mutants? What about a life through the eyes of a ghoul? Those are FAR
more interesting than the human 'let's bang' or 'I don't like you so we kill each other' or worse 'I want my daddy!' tales.)

  • Companions hogging kills/XP (they best stick to New Vegas style and give us XP if companions horde kills)

  • The highly repetitive gun a shit ton of stuff down then level up half way through the game and use about 3-4 points to distribute between only a few skills because they keep cutting them all down due to laziness making the game even more dull. Oh not to mention 50 lock pick needed to pick a lock bullshit, oh so can NOT wait for that again! -_-

  • The 30 level cap lock (Skyrim allows higher levels and the skills are more free form)

  • Companions always walking in front of you, pushing you around, getting in the way

  • Stuck walking sssllllloooooooowwwwwwllllyyyyyy across the dull dull dull wasteland (New Vegas was the worst with that, thank you vehicle and sprint mods)

Not to be a smart ass, but you seem to know a lot about a game that is not out yet. Yes all of what you said might be true, but it also might not be true.

The intro take place the day The Great War begin so before any Fallout. But when the Sole Survivor exit the Vault 111, it's during the event of Fallout 3. The events of Fallout New Vegas take place 4 to 5 years later after Fallout 3 et Fallout 4.

Posted

They said it takes place 200 years after the great war, that would place it at 2277, the same time as Fallout 3, but I also remember reading somewhere that it takes place 10 years after 3, don't remember where though.

Has there been any confirmation yet on whether all player dialogue will be voiced or not?

If they are going to voice it, they will voice all of it. No point being half-assed about it. You anger everyone that way, the people who hate voiced player dialogue (you guys should die in a fire! :P) will hate it, and the people who want dialogue will be annoyed that not all of it is voiced.  No point angering everyone...

Does the story of Fallout 4 take place before or after the events of Fallout 3 and New Vegas?

the war takes place on October 23rd 2077, Fallout 3 starts on August 17th 2277, New Vegas starts on October 19th 2281. For FO4 they have said you come out of the vault 200 years later after the war. If they mean exactly 200 years then FO4 will start on October 2277 roughly 2 months after FO3. They have not confirmed the exact start of FO4 that I am aware of other than to say you emerge from the vault 200 years later.

Like shadowlord, I thought I also read/heard it takes place 10 years after Fallout 3. I'll have to skim through and look it up. Or maybe it was me just doing the bad math I always do.

Maybe the only thing I have heard is in interview they said FO4 survivor wakes up 200 years after entering the vault and they entered the vault obviously on the day of the great war. It might be more than 200 years, they may just be saying 200 years cause they don't want to give away to many details. Like maybe the survivor lives for 10 years in the vault before going to sleep and wakes up 200 years later. They are keeping what happens in the vault a secret for now and until we know that we won't know for sure when FO4 will start.

They sure are. I still think you have some time in the vault before you are put to sleep. And something stupid happens like someone pops open a nuka and the bottlecap flings and hits a scientist in the eye and he spills his coffee onto the reactor and systems begin to fail and everyone is running around like headless chickens and die because they run out of oxygen. People are put in the chamber but shortly after their oxygen tanks fail except yours. lol

Okay, I made that up but the part about being in the vault for some time before going to sleep.

Be nice to live in the vault for a bit in the game and see more of it since FO3 rushed through it all. Sadly FO4 looks like it will rush through before to war. Would be nice to see the world more before the bombs fell. Though modders will take care of that.

todd and pete have both confirmed that it exactly 200 years after the bombs drop which would put it october 2277 which is a few month after fallout 3, since it takes place in august 2277. the only thing that strange is that in a recent interview someone said the game starts in in 2075 instead of 2077 which mean we might a fast forward sequence like we got with the lone wander, but that just a rumor at this point and it could just a typo.

other thing stated in the interview is that they want to make the player have a sense of loss while they explore the wasteland

I really hope this is true. I just don't see how I'm supposed to feel a sense of loss without spending a considerable amount of time getting to learn and care about the characters that I lose. You simply can't achieve that kind of emotional investment with the 5 minute intro they showed at E3. Let me feel what my character feels, don't just tell me how I should feel. This is a man or woman who has lost everything. His/her spouse, child, home, friends, community, sense of purpose, sense of identity, all of that is gone. This is a man or woman stepping into a completely alien world, where he/she is completely removed from what he/she had grown to know and love from his/her pre-war life. I want to feel that. I don't want to be told "Everything you knew and loved is gone now. Enjoy the wasteland!"

In short: I really hope Bethesda capitalizes on the fact that our protagonist is of pre-war origins, there is massive potential for emotional "punch" relative to the protagonists of previous games, all of whom were/are already accustomed to post-war life before their games started (Except for the Vault Dweller, and the Lone Wanderer, arguably.) . Please, Beth, don't squander that potential.

Hrm. Well, I suppose I'd be willing to do a full voice-over if that means we can have a voice resource for mods. Unless we can find some more experienced voice artists who'd be interested in doing that...

Yeah 100% sure that will never happen.

Mods will have to splice existing files, or go unvoiced which will be 99% of mods I'm guessing. Seems like 50% of people will mod the main character to be voiceless anyways so it's not like it's a big deal.

Maybe someone will cut up and extract the words and make it a resource... Still going to be a ton of words left out sadly.

Acting's a lot of fun, and voice-acting is acting but easier. Someone else would have to handle packing it and implementing it, but I could do the voice recording, no problem. My job is only part-time, after all.

But if a majority of people are going to be modding out the voice of the PC anyway, then I'd be content with being a voice resource for NPCs as, like you say, most mods go unvoiced, and there are a lot of words left out when just splicing together the existing files. (NCR CF comes to mind...)

For the main character, if anyone could replicate the voice actor's acting close enough to the original, that'd be a lot faster than re-doing the entirety of the vanilla PC sound records.

EDIT: Apparently there's over 13,000 voiced lines of dialogue *each* for the PCs. Given that, it's probably easiest to find a voice actor who can sound close to a PC, and/or splice dialogue together from that massive resource.

Also, dialogue is no longer 'locked in', which might out mode text dialogue entirely. That also sounds like it would be a much larger undertaking to mod out the voiced dialogue entirely.

That said, I'm going to voice some NPC lines. For myself at the minimum, since I want higher-quality mods out there, but I'm happy to do it for others as well.

Voiced protagonist ? given Skyrim's poor NPC voices (one voice for them all ) i am worried that this will kill replay value and be poorly implemented, the other thing i guess is change. If the game was released say 4 years after FO3 rather than 7 then smaller changes would have been easier to get used too,it just seems like they've taken alot out and put little back eg.the power armor looks ridiculous and cheesy,in F03 you could just put it on, now you have to get into it (i hate movie cut scenes thrown into game play ) of course i won't know for sure until i see the game released and some decent gameplay (from gamers). Also the whole modding on the Xbox/PC has the potential to lead to censorship due to the age group, again i'll be waiting at least a month after release to see if it's worth buying. When it comes down to it i'm not in the target group this game seems to be aiming at
