Buddy Christ Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Some random notes to what I read and all without quoting Fast travel should be an option that can be disabled/enabled in the game menu. I know I would like to use it in my 3rd or 4th playthrough ^^ Cars would be nice, but since this is the Fallout universe, weren't they nuclear powered? So, finding fuel cells could be an option to keep cars from being the main means of transport. The wooden ship with the thrusters? I considered them something built by a mad man/woman (gender equality, there can be mad women in a post-apocalyptic world!), but not actually working. When I saw it in the trailer I thought about the horrific explosion it will cause if you fail a quest at once Graphics are nice enough to catch my eye. I always am looking for nice graphics in a game (never will play some of those "pixle art" games or retro-graphic games, I am a sucker for eye candy!), but the graphics seemed good enough for me to want to walk the wastelands! Story is the main thing about Fallout! But I really got goose bumps watching the trailer. Now all I have to figure out is, how to get the uncut version to run on Steam in this fucking country, since Valve doesn't actually respect EU law In conclusion: I am looking forward to Fallout 4 but I am not going to buy it on release or pre-order it. Still too many variables when it comes to modding.
Guest Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Skyrim Tamriel Worldspace: 3808 x 3008 [ 119 x 94 TES4 size cells ] = 6.9km x 5.4km = 37.6 sq km = 14.5 sq miles Oblivion Cyrodiil Worldspace: 4288 x 4128 [ 134 x 129 TES4 size cells ] = 7.7km x 7.4km = 57 sq km = 22 sq miles Morrowind Vvardenfell World: 2688 x 2816 [ 84 x 88 TES4 size cells ] = 4.8km x 5km = 24 sq km = 9.3 sq miles Fallout3 Wasteland Worldspace: 6304x6400 [ 197 x 200 TES4 size cells ] = 11.3km x 11.5km = 130 sq km = 50 sq miles Fallout3 New Vegas WastelandNV: 4096x4128 [ 128 x 129 TES4 size cells ] = 7.3km x 7.4km = 54 sq km = 21 sq miles In game perception is strange. While I really had the perception FO3 was bigger than NV, I couldnt' say the same compared to Skyrim, Skyrim seemed very big to me... It would be interesting to know an approximated playable area. I remember I've read that even if FONV had 16 quads, almost the whole external ring was unplayable area, leaving the playable to not much more than 4 quads. Also... if I think to all the mountains around Skyrim, I think to huge mountains that don't require a lot of extra cells to generate a decent LOD (walls of mountains everywhere...). But if I think to the area around FO3, the first thing that comes in my mind is a lot of flat land blocked by invisible walls (south or north edges of the map, for example), it requires a good amount of cells to be LODed correctly. Pretty sure that even if FO3 is huge it also has a lot of unplayable area, prolly definetely more than other games - just my in-game feeling, I never did math on GECK / CK
bjornk Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 The ultimate Fallout experience, as far as the map size is concerned, would be on a planet scale engine (such as Outerra). The entire world would be your playground.

blueballbob Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Going to buy no matter what since I figure mods can improve the graphics. Going to hope for these things however: 1. Be 64bit for fucksake. Don't want to get memory limited again! 2. Better scripting engine. 3. Creation Kit releases within 3 months of game release. 4. Larger world with longer travel distances. Make vehicles (if any) valuable. Travelling in Skyrim didn't feel like you went very far, and was no real point for the horse. 5. Some 'empty' space for modders to use as real estate. 6. Drop in and out Co-op if you want to enable it. (No MMO bullshit, just ability to play with friends.)
Sacremas Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Maybe if it could be randomly generated, pre-rendering and placing everything? Utterly impossible if you ever want to publish.

I felt FO3 was reasonably large but it felt smaller than Oblivion. Oblivion felt like the largest of any Bethsoft games to me. (Bear in mind I also had mods for Elsweyr and Valenwood so my view isn't that of vanilla Oblivion.) FONV felt extremely small to me. Skyrim I felt was medium sized. There's always some huge mountain sucking up space so it felt to me like the traversable land wasn't too large. Here's another thing I find interesting. When you're at one end of the map in each of these games and you have to go to the other end, which game elicits a bigger groan? FONV: No problem, be there in a few minutes. FO3: Ugh! Fine... Skyrim: I have to go by that stupid mountain AGAIN!? Oblivion: Make it stop!!!!!!! (Unless of course you have that Arcane University teleportation thing set up. )
joemonco Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Rage had potential. Played the game all the way and it had some fun moments; way too short of a game though as it felt like I playing a Battlefield, CoD, Crysis, etc. campaign; and it wasn't very challenging overall. If they actually added a decent multiplayer then the game would have at least some replay value to it. The game looks pretty good and is somewhat smooth, I tihnk it would be at least a decent engine for games like Fallout. Although, I hope that they will create/revise an engine for Fallout 4 to address the many concerns of the past engines, although this is unlikely to happen. Rage sucked because they changed direction midway through production, from racing game to sci-fi shooter with racing elements. Moving to id tech 5 for Fallout would kill the mod scene deader than paid mods will. Megatextures are a serious bitch to deal before you even start to think about sharing and hosting them.

I played Rage, it was a good game. Though I get why it had texture pop in now, that's been sorta how Racing Games have been developed so it makes since now. What was a disappointment with Rage was how it was pushed as being another Fallout game or comparable with open world...We all kinda know how that went though.

Guest endgameaddiction Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Was funny to read. Even if this is just some personal vendetta and she really did work for Bethesda, There's no way they would remove playable female character. But E3 is right around the corner and they will confirm this themselves.
testsubject013 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 according to her you are stuck as a man throughout the main story line then you can have a sex change. still would suck and in my opinion stupid move by bethesda

Still pretty stupid. according to her you are stuck as a man throughout the main story line then you can have a sex change. still would suck and in my opinion stupid move by bethesda It also makes sense as the player character will be voiced. It does, but it's stupid. You should have the option to be a female voiced character with the interactions according to your gender. I want to believe her story is true, but I don't want to at the same time. I guess I can handle playing as a dude in game. I'll have to play in FPS so I don't look at his ass in tight vault jumpsuit. ._.
testsubject013 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 dragon age inquisition had two voices for male and female yet we are going to be stuck as playing as a man for the majority of the game for the sake of narrative. that would ruin the game for me
bjornk Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 She wrote this 11 months ago, I've highlighted the important bits:(Probably contains some spoilers, so you've been warned!) In Fallout 4, you are in Boston, and it takes place in the year 2287, exactly 10 years after Fallout 3. In Fallout 4, mixing things up, we are making the game more "Story Based" and the player character will finally talk, and narrate his storyline. At the beginning of the game, you create your character (You can only be a male in the main story), and afterward, you start the game with a blast. After the blast, you awake to see the building you are standing inside blown apart and your wife, Lydia, dead. Robots and Androids are storming the place, killing and kidnapping the people inside. You, known as "The Officer", must escape and get revenge.LOCATION: Fallout 4 is set in and around Boston and the surrounding countryside. (confirmed!)The downtown area is entirely controlled by "The Institute" (confirmed!), a group of techies and scholars, as well as researchers, who devote their lives to technology. The countryside area is a "Wasteland" with small towns and settlements, as well as vaults here and there. Logan International Airport is taken over by the Brotherhood of steel, who are there trying to control the technology, and are currently waging a war against the institute, as they both have disagreements as to who should be in control of the technology in the area.Meanwhile, Vault 79, located outside of Boston, is under the control by "The Railroad", a group of people dedicated to helping Androids escape the institute. The map of Fallout 4 is about 3 times the size of Skyrim. The reason for this is to make a much more realistic and interactive world, that players can always find new things, even if they have played it for years after release.FACTIONS: The Railroad returns from Fallout 3, where you only had a small glimpse of it during the "Replicated man" quest. In this game, they are a full faction and are much larger. The Brotherhood Of Steel returns and control Logan Airport. This BOS is not the same as seen in Fallout 3. Instead, a similar BOS to the ones seen in the classic Fallout games as well as Fallout New Vegas make an appearance, only caring about technology, and will obtain it by force if they have to. The Institute returns from Fallout 3, and is headed by a man named Thomas Littleton. They are the primary antagonists of the game, and control most of Boston Downtown. Their patrols in Downtown Boston are the counterpart in this game to the Super Mutants in Downtown DC in Fallout 3. Talon Company also returns, but in a much smaller force. They base operations outside of a bunker located in Downtown Boston. Raiders return too. CREATURES: Super Mutants return, in the same form as the ones from Fallout 3, keeping in line with the "East Coast" mutants. Feral Ghouls return as well. Vicious Dogs return. Feral Cats are new, and exclusively located in one of the vaults. Spore Carriers return from Fallout New Vegas, and are located in sewers. RETURNING CHARACTERS: Madison Li returns from Fallout 3. 10 years prior to Fallout 4, she left D.C after the Loss of James and having thought she lost the lone wanderer as well. Having had enough, she left to Boston, as it is home to one of the biggest Scientific facilities. Madison will once again be voiced by Jennifer Massey. Three Dog returns as well, although he is only heard on the radio, and not seen in person. People believe the radio is not actually live, and that it is simply a looped recording. (Based on the fact that you CAN kill him in Fallout 3.) He is voiced by Erik Todd Dellums. Bryan Wilks returns from Fallout 3. Yes, the little boy you saved from Grayditch. He is now 19 years old and is a mercenary, working with Talon Company. He bases his reason as to working with them on "Once someone saved me, and I wanted to be just like them!" He is voiced by Jerry Jewell. Other Fallout 3 characters return as well, but only through save transfer (Detailed below). PLATFORMS:Fallout 4 will be available for a wide range of platforms after launch. The first version that will be released is being developed for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. This version uses a brand new engine built from the ground up to take advantage of the power of next gen systems. Absolutely everything is new, and no assets or scrips are being used from Fallout 3/NV or Skyrim. (just as we've suspected, engine change!)Fallout 4 will also be available on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. This version is also being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, but will release a year after the advanced version. (indeed there was a cross-gen rumor, but no indication of that on the site yet) This version runs on the Creation Engine, the same engine that powered Skyrim. This is being done so that PS3/360 users can play the game without problem. Everything will be the same in this version as the advanced version, except for the graphics, gameplay and some additional features. Also, Fallout 4 on PS3 and Xbox 360, last I knew, was around 20GB+. This means that it will most definitely require install. Also, players of the PS3/360 version will be pleased to know that Fallout 4 will be able to import your Fallout 3 save, and adapt choices you made from that game for Fallout 4. This means that some additional characters could pop up, depending on if you killed them or not in Fallout 3. Also, some story references from Fallout 3 will be mentioned. Did the BOS save the capitol wasteland? Or did it fall? Did Sarah turn on the purifier and die? Or did the lone wanderer do it? It might get mentioned depending on your choices!DEVELOPERS: Fallout 4 is being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, the same developer behind Fallout 3.GAMEPLAY:Fallout 4 plays similar to Fallout 3 and New Vegas. You can play in Third Person or First Person, or on the PC version, a new "Classic Mode" that will put the game into birds eye view and play similar to the classic Fallout Games. (Although by my experience, it actually looked and played more like the PS2/Xbox Fallout: Brotherhood of steel.)Unlike Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, you can only play as a man. (i.e. It's dead, Jim) This is due to the storyline requiring it. However, after the main story is over, you can have a gender change. BGS did not rule out Females for possible standalone DLC, however. (hmm, maybe not)Additionally, full support for Trophies/Achievements are present on all console versions, and full steamworks support is present for the PC version.PROGRESS: By my estimate, Fallout 4's PS4/XboxOne/PC version is about 40% complete, while the PS3/Xbox360 version is about 15% complete. Both versions are being developed by BGS.RELEASE DATE: BGS has a "Roadmap" already planned out for Fallout 4 and a spinoff. I already was informed about it from the studio when I worked there, and I read it. Basically, the roadmap is this: June 2015 - Fallout 4 reveal at E3, trailer only (confirmed!) July 2015 - First gameplay trailers August 2015 - More information October 2015 - PS4/Xbox One/PC release November 2015 - First DLC December 2015 - Second DLC, as well as PS3/360 version release January 2016 - Third DLC March 2016 - Forth DLC April 2016 - Fifth and Final DLC June 2016 - Fallout Spinoff revealed, in development by Behaviour Interactive. October 2016 - Fallout Spinoff released for PS4/Xbox One/PC
Nixea Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 There's so much wrong with that reddit post, it's not even worth challenging as the users there have already kindly done so already. Instead of buying something so obviously fake, take some time to read the responses that point out the obvious mistakes this alleged ex beth employee makes.

Vioxsis Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 something I just stumbled across thought you guys might be instristed in This is funny, getting fired for leaking info and blaming them for firing her... This version uses a brand new engine built from the ground up to take advantage of the power of next gen systems. Yeah that allocated ~6 gig of ram ain't gona fill itself you know... Seriously what's to make use of? They use processors meant for net books and tablets but were to power hungry for purpose. And their engine already runs on x86. Am i missing something? Fallout 4 will also be available on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. This version is also being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, but will release a year after the advanced version. This version runs on the Creation Engine, the same engine that powered Skyrim. This is being done so that PS3/360 users can play the game without problem. Everything will be the same in this version as the advanced version, except for the graphics, gameplay and some additional features. Why would they waste their time doing this? why backport to your old engine? are the sales figures on ps4 and bone so bad? This is most likely a troll post.. I'm putting no stock in what she typed anyway. well at least it made me laugh.
bjornk Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 She already knew where the game took place and the trailer reveal date, which was impossible to guess 11 months ago. That post is as legit as it can be. She also says that the PC will be "voiced" and that's precisely what we saw in the trailer today. BruceWayne suspected that the PC could be voiced and I told him that it usually happened in games like interactive movies (i.e. story based games like ME series, DA series, TW series) and she confirms that as well.
windpl Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 She already knew where the game takes place and the trailer reveal date, which is impossible to guess 11 months ago. That post is as legit as it can be. If by any chance it is, fuck such fallout 4.
Nixea Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Again, the supposed leak is full of nonsense, as several reddit users such as Tulzei have explained. Tulzei 45 puntos hace 7 horas * No, sorry, this is entirely fake. The "leaked script" from kotaku turned out to be true, and this was just riding the wave of that. They got lucky making a few things up, and stole bits of information from other known rumors at that time (being set in boston, having a speaking protagonist) but overall it's false. There's a few things that give it away: It mentions save transfer, completely impossible given that fallout 3 was not equiped with that ability, and you can't retroactively build that feature, It needs to be made from the ground up. It mentions it's using an entirely new engine, built from scratch, then claims it uses the creation engine. That's very contradictory. It claims it's 3 times bigger than Skyrim, but skyrim took 3 years to make. No way they can triple it's size in just under a year. It's physically impossible. It claims an xbox 360 and ps3 version will be available, a lie, completely contradicting Todd Howard's sentiment. The bird's eye view mechanic is a lie, due to the nature of BGS' games, this is technically unstable. It would likely break the game. Forcing you into only playing a man is one of the biggest red flags. Bethesda is know for "Play how you want, be who you want" gameplay approach. They've kept this motto since arena, they aren't going to abandon it now. At the time this released in 2014, it claims that the game was 40% done on "next gen" and 15% done on "last gen". Not only is it impossible to comeplete 60% of the game (that's supposedly 3 times bigger than skyrim) in what I'm assuming is 1 year of dev time (I think it will be released this year, though if not, 2 years dev time) but that's also not how video game development works. You don't completely develop two separate versions of games and have them at different levels of completion, given that this person claims they're "the same on all platforms" just with enhanced graphics. Another point on the development side is this post claims BGS is doing all of that work themselves, which is just as unlikely. The post claims the "roadmap" for announcement is June announcement only (obviously they picked June because of E3, like we were doing every year since Skyrim), claims a cinematic trailer releases in July (already proven false due to the 3 minute gameplay trailer being released today) and claims the first gameplay trailer releases in august, (again, proven untrue today). They claim the dlc is already planned out as early as 2014, which isn't how BGS does dlc. They go with the flow, so to speak, never following a strict guideline. They claim a spin-off is being made by Behaviour Interactive. Seriously?
Gameplayer Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 All of this is just educated guess and rumor stuff I remembered at dinner. Drawing from the video. Our vault person has a flashback. ---------------------------------------------- Our Vault Dweller is actually some sort of important person from before the War. Vault 111 is a Cryo Facility. The nieborhood he walks though and the house is basically their home, and memories just before the bombs fell. I also noticed a very strong "Blade Runner" vibe to the metropolis with the airship. I recall that both in Fo3 and the rumor mill that the Synthetics are supposed to be a major theme in Fo4 and should be a plot point in Fo4. Actually if the rumors were true its setting is in Boston and the whole Synth human bit should actually be in the game as its totally cannon from F03. ------------- I guess I posted a tad late eh? lol
