Guest Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 So... Whats the latest controversy? Can anyone catch me up?
Coopervane Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Did you see the E3 stuff from way back? Well then you're fully caught up, as that is still all we've seen or heard.
Galacticat42 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I don't remember any game breaking bugs with skyrim on PC at launch, I played 200 hours within the first 2 weeks after launch (which i never plan to do again, as I then didn't touch Skyrim again that year). Only bugs I encountered were minor, like quest items you couldn't get rid of after handing in the related quest (console to the rescue), bad grammer in chat options - that sort of thing. Got high hopes for Fallout 4, but I refuse to pre-order anything anymore after Elder scrolls online. So if they have to take fallout 4 down after launch to fix it, i guess i'll end up waiting. To be fair though, ESO wasn't Bethesda. I don't know why, but it seems that it's popular to think it was Bethesda, but it was a new studio that Zenimax Media Inc. made for ESO, named Zenimax Studios. As for Fallout 4 and Bethesda, I think Zenimax learned its lesson considering Skyrim and Bethesda Game Studios: not to rush them for a pretty date (11-11-11 anyone?) and Beth ended up having to cut a huge amount of content and skip leg day on bug testing. Now that Bethesda has had four years to make the game, they've had ample time to fully realize their creativity and make this game. However, this doesn't mean it'll be bug free. I mean c'mon, look at their history, though Beth has been spending their time bug smashing since they announced it at E3 as they said in an interview that the game was done since E3 except for bug testing, which is what they're doing. Given it's not as long as CD Projekt Red had for debugging Witcher 3 as they really didn't want to screw anything up and pushed back the date a year for bug testing and optimization, Bethesda will be having about a quarter of that time for debugging. So yes, there will be bugs, but hopefully at a fraction compared to Skyrim's release.
TheOzoneHole Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I'm was/am still a bit...put off(? not sure how to phrase it) by the fact that they pulled their little 11-10-15 bit at the end of the E3 show, the same way they did with Skyrim. Also some of their decisions about not releasing more info, in particular since the game is "finished". Look how far back they started showing things for FO3 or even Skyrim. And didn't they say that they started doing some of the work (okay, mostly concept art and such) not long after they finished FO3? Still, four years is about normal between releases for them. Morrowind in 02, Oblivion in 06, FO3 in 08, Skyrim in 11, and FO4 in 15. Guess that means that TESVI will be out in November of 2019. Just in time to be a debut game for the Xbox 1k and the PS5!
Leito86 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 FO4 is being released one day before Veterans day in the US. Kind of convenient considering the PC's pre-war occupation.
Amonkira Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Really looking forward to FO4. Although I gotta say I was not blown away by the graphics in the trailer. Not that it means everything to me, but I think it just looks like a slightly improved FO3 with good mods and ENB - kinda expected more after all these years and improved technology.
Gameplayer Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 People don't seem to understand this but here goes, I'll attempt to frame up the situation. When you mod your video game with the nerdiest nerds the world over and your stuffing your computer with the techiest tech the geek engineer could make.... How in the world can you ever go back to regular gaming? How can you even say that a normal game should be anything like the dream team mods that get post-developed for years? Its like your saying that your brand new 2015 Cheve should be better than my supped up 2011 high octane fully re-bored Cheve with the whole bevy of aftermarket parts. In other words you just don't understand how crazy your line of logic is to me. My vehicle of entertainment is a 2,000 horsepower Nitous driven Super Wartruck of Doom compared to your everyday driver vehicle built for the masses.
BaeleDrae Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Anybody else wondering if 'River/Dogmeat' is going to be able to be switched out for ... lets say a Cougar? Edit: I probably should have mentioned that I have been attacked by 3 dogs in my life and they have all been German Shepherds ... so yea ... Would like an animal companion but not a Shepherd
afa Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 The ability to mod is different from a singly crafted experiences, one doesn't necessarily supersede the other. By having, supporting, relying to a certain extend on mods there are aspects in a game that needs to relinquish or compromise. That's why I have always put Bethesda sandbox games in a different category altogether, they are never games that I will claim to be favorite, with or without mods, but they offer something that is unique from almost everything out there that I like.
Ainell Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Anybody else wondering if 'River/Dogmeat' is going to be able to be switched out for ... lets say a Cougar? Edit: I probably should have mentioned that I have been attacked by 3 dogs in my life and they have all been German Shepherds ... so yea ... Would like an animal companion but not a Shepherd As someone who was nearly torn to shreds by a German Shepherd at the tender age of 8, I heartily second this. Hell, I might just have to learn to mod and make this MYSELF if nobody beats me to it... That said, cats are canonically extinct in the Fallout universe, unless Mr House was joking about that... but I wouldn't mind a mutated raccoon or something.
atrix Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I wonder what the FO4 version of Sexlab/Sexout will end up being called... I scheduled the week off work so I can game uninterrupted for the release. Will probably take another one off in Q1 when the Geck/CK equivalent comes out since I'm sitting on about 23 vacation days. I'm betting it will be an incremental change from the CK, based on how the game looks, but who knows? The gap between NV Geck and Skyrim CK is pretty large. I wish Bethesda would take on animation importing by providing their own tool but I can't realistically see that happening. I wonder who will step into fore's shoes, or if he will have a change of heart. I can't see any robust gameplay changing mods (requiring script extenders, etc) coming out cross platform. So, I imagine bethesda.net will just be simple stuff; armor reskins, etc, and a few more robust content mods (Falskar type of efforts) made semi or fully professionally. I can count on one hand the number of Skyrim mods I have that /don't/ require skse, mcm, etc.
Hamguy31 Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 If they are going to do the whole paid modding thing, then i won't even look at the game till it's 3 bucks or less in the bargain-bin. Paid modding and restricted mods are only for Consoles.
Gameplayer Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 I went to a study group for college just the other day and the amount of money I had to pay for lunch...IDK I felt guilty getting food at McD's when I know ppl that create amazing content that are disabled and living in countries that don't have disability or welfare those guys they are just SOL and up shit creek without a fucking paddle.

While I see your point, and in many ways agree with you, that does not change the fact that A. the modders' were getting way to small a percentage of the revenue; and B. most of the stuff was going to be just a few pieces of junk thrown up to make someone who didn't actually do a whole lot of work to make themselves a few dollars. Add to that the very poor way in which they introduced the system, and the fact that modding for TES games has lived by one rule since 2002: you cannot charge for your work. Is Beth going to try it again? More than likely. Will they come up with a better way to do it? Not likely. Do they really care if the piss off their core fans? It should be pretty clear by now that they don't give a rip; this is the company that gave us Horse Armor after all. About the only way that they could really fuck it up is to require everyone to pay for mods and prevent people from using non-Beth approved mods in their games.
Gameplayer Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Its just the Artists lot in life I suppose, afterall ALL art no matter what it is should be free. I understand very well this attitude because I have faced that for real everyday for 20 years of my life. I've had many a stuck up wealthy man haggle me down on my works till I could not recover the cost of materials and time spent. Yup that's our lot in life. Going to unsub right now, this has played out enough for me. I know what the realities are and I know you feel entitled to let us starve and we will starve as it is in our nature to be creators before survival.
DoctaSax Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 When FO4 does come out, I'll open a thread where people can just say they like it, and talk of Bugthesda's sinister plans and paid modding is forbidden. Not that there aren't valid concerns etc etc, but sometimes you just hope for a place where you can talk about FO4 like the fanboy you are. People just can't do that anymore, it's a shame.
Safira Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Everyone waits for Fallout 4. So we can mod it and start fucking with npcs Have you seen the trailers? There is plensy new possibilies for npc interaction!
Guest Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 The only problem with paid mods is that why would anyone maybe frameworks? Just look at the top mods here or nexus. Every single one needs SkyUi, FNIS, Racemenu etc... with paid mods any retard can make some dumbass sword or shield you would get bored with t-minus 3 minutes. There would be no incentive to create such mods or mods that need these as dependencies. Just look at how many mods go out of their way to avoid DLC dependencies. Paid mods will ruin the modding community, make it an option to donate and you win, 50% for Beth/Steam and 50% for the modder. That sounds fair. Or something along the lines of the first 100$ of each month is not deducted.
GrimReaper Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Paid modding would be the downfall of the Bethesda modding community. Why? Because modding is one big fucking chain of dependencies and ressources made available by other people. Imagine if petrovich would've charged money for the UNP body mod - no UNPB, no sevenbase, nothing. No outfits for that body by other authors. No alternative textures for that body. Imagine what people would do when they discover something that others don't know yet, say, something simple as how to add custom NPCs into the world. Why share? That advantage means real money for you. Or something like sexlab and the many mods available for that. To even start developing such a mod, you need FNIS and SKSE as the basic necessities. Not to mention the smaller but also important things like nude body replacers + boners for the males. If ANYONE in that chain of dependencies decides he or she is better off selling that mod for money, the development of future mods that would've needed that stops instantly. And then there's the legal issues like licenses for the tools you need to create your content because most developers of said tools allow free use of their stuff as long as it isn't for commercial purposes but want you to pay hard cash if you want to use those tools to make money. Modding is one big clusterfuck (in a good way, most of the time) that is already plagued by meaningless competition over internet fame. Imagine how'd would be - and how many modders would quit - if you add money to the mix.
bjornk Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Imagine if petrovich dimon99 would've charged money for the UNP body mod - no UNPB, no sevenbase, nothing. Only the donation model would work for modding and nothing else.
Vioxsis Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Paid modding would be the downfall of the Bethesda modding community. Why? Imagine what people would do when they discover something that others don't know yet, say, something simple as how to add custom NPCs into the world. Why share? That advantage means real money for you. Sadly i don't think bethesda care in the slightest, especially in the case of body replacers. Though i doubt that will stop them from happening, nor will it stop there being multiple bodies they will just have no link to each other. That is if they would be able to make it on to the 'store front' in the first place. The sharing of information (or the lack thereof) is far more worrying then there being a shortage of body derivatives. Sexlab would never be allowed on their 'store' which is why whatever "modding community" comes about will be split in two (maybe more). You will get the new paid "community" probably be the largest (due to console users). loverslab will still be around assuming the CK/geck works like it does now.. And whatever is left that doesn't want to pay for mods, and wants things to continue as things are, cookie cutter followers and all. Though things might not happen the way they have in the past its not too big of a leap to say that all the things that we (loverslab) need will be made by someone here. I mean its not like we lack any talented people, in fact i have seen more here then at other mod sites. Well it will be interesting to see what does happen. On a side note this was posted on the 15th In it they talk about modding UGC.. The things said like "making your own adventures in DD" "we've always pushed on it really hard, but the audience that can even do that stuff or is even doing it, is not as big as people think" And then to go on to say that bringing it (modding) to consoles will increase it. Goes to show what they think about what they have to begin with, i think they will happily get rid of us for an imagined new modding community. One that makes DD quests in the CK, one that has no recollection of sharing resources, ideas, information. Then with the 'new' revenue stream they will have their justification (to the suits breathing down their neck) on working on the CK for the unwashed small%. That is if it wasn't their idea to begin with... They will probably make them selves exempt by putting something in the legal document you will need to sign to gain access to the 'store' to sell your shit. Something like "upon agreeing with this document, you are stating that anything you put on the 'store' is yours to sell and any programs/assets being used are properly licensed for purpose." to shift the blame (rightfully) on to the creator. Though in the same document it will probably have "once on the store it then becomes bethsofts property to do with what they please".
afa Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I might even suspect that the concept of withholding information and mods behind is already in action. They have seeded the notion of paid modding officially and their final statement on the fiasco was essentially we will withdraw for now, but still want to return to it in the future. This might be enough for people to stop sharing information or asset even if the CK and mod scene hits for FO4 for free in the fear/hope that the paid version will come. Worst case scenario we are getting the secrecy treatment without people actually putting out anything or making any money. Part of me feel like they should just double down on it and push out the paid mods and see what happens at the very least. If it is profitable fine, if it crashes and burns, at least we know for sure now and people will adapt accordingly.
Sacremas Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 On another subject entirely, namely this new game I've heard about called Fallout 4 (Badum-tssh), even before the game is out DLCs have been announced for it. There will be a 30 bucks DLC pass thingie that will get you all of them, and they'll start coming out after the holidays. Pretty sure I paid more than 30 bucks for all the New Vegas addons, from Dead Money to Courier's Stash etc, so all of them for one season pass type of price is good for me.
Aria Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Wonder how much stuff has been cut out of the game, not really surprised though.
