Elves Not Aliens!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

So, I've always wanted to know how to make elves look like everyone else but with pointy ears but never figured out how. Googling skyrim elf will show you exactly what I mean. Pictures like this, this and this are just a couple of examples of what I mean.

Is it possible to convert all elves (playable and NPC) into something like the above and how would I do that?

If anyone already has then please share a screenshot and what you did, please!

Thanks a bunch!

Guffel's right. Vast majority of elven characters aren't elves by race but only by ears they have which are achievable via ECE or RaceMenu. I think you'd have to replace head meshes and all that, but I never bothered with such change so that's black magic to me.

Well, if you want a replacer for all elves to make them look better, I sugest you use Ethereal Elven Overhaul... I have been using it since 2012 :)

As for pointy ears... There should be a pointy ears mod somewhere... And equip them on the follers you want or force equip with console ("select npc with mouse" equip "itemcode") and that should work too...

It irritates me to no end how people complain and moan about Skyrim's elves. Have these assholes played an Elder Scrolls besides Oblivion? Because Oblivion's were not only shit, but lore-breakingly wrong. Believe it ot not, Dunmer have always had those ridges, and Bosmer have always had solid color eyes. And I'm glad they standardized features across the various mer, because it makes more sense and because it's different than your standard boring-as-shit Pretty Human With Pointy Ears.

It's like if you don't want to put your dick in it it's somehow automatically ugly.

I'm just hazarding a guess here, but I suspect most people's gripes with elves have less to do with their specific racial features and more with the standard elf head mesh's gauntness and the diagonal slanting of the eyes.

I do not agree with your somewhat hostile word choice, but I can appreciate the general sentiment of your statement.

I myself prefer the mods which accentuate the unique traits of the races of Tamriel while improving the quality of the head meshes or increasing the fidelity of the textures rather than those which make them look like standard people with rubber foreheads and body paint(something that the Dragon Age series took notes from with their own alterations made to elves, dwarves and Qunari as of Dragon Age 2) but I wouldn't knock those who do prefer such things.

To each, their own and all that jazz.

There are 2 things absolutely immersion breaking for me in any fantasy game:  Ugly elves and pretty dwarves.   Sure, there can be an exceptional character that breaks the convention,  but otherwise it just pulls me out of the game.  It'd be the same with tall hobbits, smart ogres or sparkly vampires.

Instead of playing as an elf, you can pretend that your Breton/Nord/Imperial character's grandmother was a elf and add 25% elf-ness to your character using ECE. You'd get a decent looking half-elf character with slightly pointy ears. :)

You may as well create separate racial powers which are 75% weaker than the actual ones and add those to your character to complete your genetic inheritance. :)

You can also replace the face normal map (femalehead_msn.dds) for elves with the standard one for Nords.

Data\Textures\actors\character\darkelffemale\femalehead_msn.dds (<- replace this)

Data\Textures\actors\character\female\femalehead_msn.dds (<- with this one)

...should give you a smoother looking face (with no racial features).

I personally prefer ugly elves in Skyrim, as none of the elf races in Skyrim are particularly likeable. They are definitely not as elegant or as noble as, say Tolkien's elves.

Best use EEO, as stated above.

As for the discussion what a dunmer / altmer e.g. should look like: the game totally ignores that all races can procreate with one another - the reason is obvious. Too many species, too many possible combinations. It is very likely that something like the "epic elves" could really come to existence. I tend to agree with Jexsam that this game needs all the rough edges it can muster; it increases the plausibility and immersion into the world.

Plus I do miss the Dunmer voices from Morrowind. Especially the male Dunmer had a very powerful voice.

But the non-Skyrim looking elves are the aliens!

When I first saw this topic title, I totally thought it was a rant against this mod. Instead its just pictures of custom elf race mods that are obliviously "Cute Elves" or "Epic Elves" or other such similar mods. You could probably get similar results through Race Menu or the lesser used ECE, but these pictures are obliviously from custom races.

But I still say the Space Elves mod proves that the modded elves are aliens!

The true elves are the Skyrim elves, lol, at least for this game ;)

Incorrect. The in-game book "Racial Phylogeny" deals with the subject. Though it isn't comprehensive (it skirts around Orc hybrids and claims no sources on Argonian or Khajiit hybridizations with any other race), it says that generally the race of the child is the race of the mother, though certain small features from the father can be visible.

Consider Oblivion's "Gray Prince", Agronak gro-Malog. His mother was an Orc, but his father was an Imperial Vampire. Agronak is clearly an orc, but has also inherited very pale skin, and even allegedly some vampiric strength (debatable), without actually being a vampire.

This is also presumably how Bretons can still be men for all intents and purposes even though their ancestry is heavily mixed with mer.

I'm just hazarding a guess here, but I suspect most people's gripes with elves have less to do with their specific racial features and more with the standard elf head mesh's gauntness and the diagonal slanting of the eyes.

But those are racial features.

This one is awesome, but the skin color is still crap. However I've been able to find what I want by replacing the textures with a couple of complexion mods. Mix and matching nailed it.

No offence to lorefags by the way, just never dug the whole kidney failure yellow pigment.

Thanks for the feedback; I'd totally forgotten that Orc from Oblivion (seems like a lifetime ago I played it). I was trying to approach the topic from a scientific point of view; yes, it would be like splitting hairs, but if a Dunmer would mate with a Nord, the result wouldn't look like either of one... but, no matter. That discussion could go on for ever... and in the end, we could only agree that the tastes are different.

Best post I've seen for a long time, I lol'd

Most of the people like humans with pointed ears calling them "elves". However, elder scroll elves are a bit different than lets say LOTR elves.

And i love aliens !
